Hi,
This is Hayley,
And I'm really happy that you're here.
This is a meditation for when you're feeling hungover.
To help heal feelings of shame,
Frustration and sadness.
When you drink alcohol,
It creates a chemical imbalance in your brain and body,
Which leads to negative thoughts and feelings of sadness,
Anxiety and shame.
Focusing on your body and your breath can soothe you and help to bring you back to a place of stability and harmony.
If you haven't already,
Close your eyes and rest your hands on your lap.
Breathe in deeply through the nose for a count of four Hold for 4.
And breathe out for four.
Hold for another 4,
And repeat the cycle,
Breathing in for 4,
Holding for four,
Breathing out for four.
.
.
And holding for four.
And by now your breath will have naturally slowed and so you can resume normal breathing without trying to control it Imagine that you're sitting on the floor in a forest.
The leaves crunch beneath you and the soft earth feels warm and stable A huge green velvet canopy protects you from above.
Letting in fingers of light from the afternoon sun You can smell the bark from the trees,
And you can hear beautiful,
Sweet bird song swirling above your head.
Now focus on the part of the body that's touching the forest floor.
And notice how that connection feels is their warmth.
Softness.
What does it feel like to be sitting?
I invite you to imagine tree-like roots growing from the base of your spine that are grounding into the floor,
And those roots travel through the leaves,
Through the mud and the moss,
And deep into the core of the Earth.
As your roots ground deeper,
You notice that the forest floor is lit up with a glowing light emanating from the Earth's core.
It has a protective energy and this protective light is there to support you.
To give you vitality.
Compassion and gentle power.
You watch the light moving up from the earth.
Into the roots of your sitting body And you begin to breathe in the light.
As you inhale,
The glowing light is channeled upwards through your body,
Giving you strength.
And as you exhale,
The light is channeled back into the ground,
Releasing shame and toxicity.
As you inhale,
You receive the calming light of the Earth up through your roots,
Into the base of your spine,
Into your buttocks,
Down your legs to your feet,
Up through your abdomen,
Into your chest,
And all the way up to the top of the head.
And as you exhale,
You let go of shame,
Mental chatter and anxiety as the light travels back down through your chest,
Your abdomen,
Your buttocks and back through the roots.
As you inhale the light is absorbed into your bones,
Your connective tissue,
Every vein and every cell as you exhale you channel the alcohol toxins back down through the body through your roots deep into the ground to be burned by the earth's mantle As you inhale,
The empowering light works its way into your organs.
Enveloping your liver,
Intestines,
Kidneys,
Lungs and heart As you exhale,
Painful thoughts and memories are channeled back down into the earth,
Which leaves you feeling emotionally lighter.
With each inhale you feel stronger and calmer with each exhale you feel lighter and brighter you continue to breathe in and out inhaling the healing light and exhaling the toxins and the shame.
Each cycle leaves you glowing brighter as the stagnation leaves your body.
You are now enveloped in a warm,
Calming,
Glowing light.
This glowing light is holding you and healing you.
You feel calmer and more relaxed Shame is the most debilitating emotion to bear.
Because it means that you're evaluating your whole being in a negative way.
You're telling your body and mind that you are not worthy or that you're wrong in some way.
When you drink more than you planned,
You feel shame because you've let yourself down or you've let someone else down perhaps you've acted in ways that are against your own values or desires,
Yet you still do it Maybe you feel like you don't have control,
And that lack of control feels shameful.
Because shame is so painful to feel.
You want to hide it from yourself and hide it from others.
Which means that you can't then heal the feeling of shame.
And instead you continue to feel it more deeply and for longer.
But can you turn towards the shame?
Can you face it head on?
And really question why you feel it.
Can you change that shame into understanding instead?
Can you feel your shame through the lens of self-compassion?
Self-compassion is an unwavering acceptance of yourself Self-compassion allows you to feel sadness,
Anger,
Pain and guilt whilst still accepting and loving yourself unconditionally.
Self-compassion is a gentle flame of strength,
Always flickering,
Always allowing you to feel your feelings,
But without ever casting doubt over your worth.
Try to see your shame.
In the light of self-compassion.
Today i'm bringing compassion to you It's okay to drink too much.
It's okay to be hungover It's okay to have anxiety.
It's okay to feel regret it's okay to wish that you acted differently it's okay because you are still a worthy human being Despite the shame,
You are still love.
Despite the shame you are still a unique member of humanity.
Despite the shame you are still a powerful creator of your own life.
Despite the shame,
You still have permission to be kind to yourself despite the shame you still belong to this beautiful earth your whole being is now enveloped in a bright glowing light perhaps you even feel less ashamed Perhaps there's some self-compassion.
As you open your eyes and continue the rest of your day Try to remember this calming feeling of being grounded.
At one with the Earth.
A valued person on this planet and someone who always carries a bright,
Beautiful,
Glowing light.
