This is a simple and spacious breath awareness practice, designed to help you connect to your body. The breath can highlight what's happening beneath the busy chatter of the mind. By regularly focusing your awareness on the breath, you can learn how to read your body's messages and be less swept away by the mind.

Hi,

I'm Hayley and I'm so glad that you've chosen to be here with yourself for the next few minutes.

This is a time for you to notice what's happening in your body beyond your busy mind.

So find a position that feels comfortable for you.

That might be sitting or lying down.

And gently close your eyes.

Take some time now to drop into the body as though you're reconnecting with your whole ecosystem.

And see if you can experience your whole self,

Your internal space.

Your physical body,

Sensations,

The emotional body,

Your feelings and your thoughts.

Now bring your awareness to your breathing.

Notice where you naturally feel your breath moving with your body.

You might notice it at your nostrils,

Feeling the air moving in and out.

Or perhaps you feel your chest rising and falling.

Or your shoulders gently softening on the exhale.

Or your belly expanding and contracting.

You may notice your whole torso breathing.

Now see if you can notice the quality of your breath,

The texture.

Whether it's stuttered or smooth.

Or perhaps there's a pause between the in-breath and the out-breath.

Are your inhales and exhales long or short?

Are they shallow or deep?

And when your mind begins to wander,

Simply notice that you've drifted off and come back to your breath.

Now see if you can notice anything else connected to the breath.

Perhaps it has a sound.

Perhaps it's connected to your emotions,

Feelings or thoughts.

There's no need to change your breath,

No need to judge and no need to question.

Just observe.

As we start to bring this meditation to a close,

I invite you to take a moment to appreciate yourself for being in stillness.

And to notice how you feel,

Knowing that everything is welcome in this moment.

Your breath is a messenger and all you need to do is observe the message.

Your mind may be saying one thing,

But your breath may be indicating another.

So repeating this meditation will help you to connect with what's really going on within you.

Take a few more conscious breaths now,

Perhaps letting them be a little bit deeper if that feels good.

And whenever you're ready,

Gently open your eyes or lift your gaze.

And as you move back into your day,

Notice what you're taking with you.

Thank you for being here for yourself.
