Designed specifically for @work, this short and sweet practice will release tension in the eyes through gentle movement + massage. This in turn releases stress in the body both physically and mentally. Great after zoom calls, or just spending too much time at your desk. Gentle music by Jay Andrews supports this practice

Welcome to your post-zoom eye break.

So we all know that in the past little while when we've been on more zooms than ever,

Maybe your eyes have felt a little tight or you find yourself shopping for blue light glasses or giving your eyes a couple extra rubs.

Our eyes work so hard and especially in a zoom call where we're not really letting our eyes move around,

It can really be taxing on our eyes.

And actually part of our stress response is having the eyes focus and reduced eye movement.

This lack of movement in the eyes not only is a little bit uncomfortable but it can actually make our bodies a little bit more stressed.

So we're going to do a sweet little quick release here.

So to start you can just take your glasses off if you were wearing any and bring your palms together and generate a little bit of heat between your hands by rubbing them together.

And then once you feel that heat build up,

Bring your palms and let them rest over your eyes.

Now if you don't like having the eyes closed you can also widen out the fingers or bring the hands over the temples too.

And feel how that softens all the muscles around the eyes.

And then let that go.

So now I want you to bring your right thumb out in front of you like you're giving a big thumbs up to your computer screen and see if you could have your thumb just right in front of your right shoulder.

Arm is fully extended and make direct eye contact with your thumb.

Don't move your head at all but keep your eyes focused on your thumb as you bring it out to the side almost like you're opening a door or something.

Bringing your right thumb out to the right,

Following it with your eyes.

Eventually it might make its way into your peripheral vision and then keeping that focus on your thumb bring it back to center right in front of the right shoulder.

Do that once more.

Your arm is still fully extended,

Thumb is moving out to the right side,

Your chin isn't moving just the eyes and bring it back to center.

Try that out with the left hand now.

Giving a big thumbs up,

Arm is fully extended,

Left shoulder in line with elbow,

In line with thumb.

Make eye contact with your thumb like you really love it and bring it out to the left side nice and slow.

If you find it hard not to move your chin,

Bring your right hand to your chin.

Once it's in your peripheral vision bring it back to center in front of the shoulder and go for one more of those.

Nice and when you're done bring your palms together,

Generate the heat between your hands,

Rub your hands together and then same thing as before hands over the eyes.

Soften up all those muscles.

Let it go.

And then just do one of these little squeezes of the eye,

Squeezing your eyes closed almost like you're tightening all the muscles and then let it all go.

Feel all those muscles relax.

And maybe let your eyes stay gently closed and take a nice breath in and a long breath out.

Slowly blink your eyes open,

Welcome your new eyes and come back to center and come back to center after your next Zoom call or whenever feels right for you.

Hope you're feeling good.

Thanks for joining me.
