The root chakra is the energy center associated with our sense of security,
Stability,
And basic survival needs.
For this meditation,
I invite you to find a comfortable position lying down in a way you feel most stable and grounded.
So take a moment to find your way there and to make any adjustments you need to feel supported and comfortable.
Once you feel physically settled,
Bring your attention to your breath.
Take a few slow,
Deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.
As you breathe in and out,
Allow your body to completely relax.
Notice where there is tension and breathe into those areas of your body,
Softening,
Gently relaxing,
Releasing the tension with every breath.
After a few intentionally slow,
Deep breaths,
Allow your breath to settle into a natural rhythm.
You can be breathing in and out the nose or mouth,
Whatever feels most natural to you.
And now feel your weight on the earth.
Notice how your weight is distributed over all the points of contact with the ground below you.
Heels,
Calves,
Tailbone,
Shoulders,
Forearms,
Hands,
Back of the head,
Left and right,
Top and bottom.
Return your attention to your breath.
Continue breathing consciously.
You don't need to force your attention,
But anytime you notice yourself pulling away from the meditation,
Invite your attention to come back to your breath.
Visualize each breath as it enters your body.
Imagine it filling you up down into your legs and all the way out through your feet.
Imagine your breath is like the roots of a tree digging into the soil.
Let your breath find its way through the cool topsoil,
Passing worms and other living beings in the ground.
Visualize your breath as it continues down into the earth,
Through rock,
Through underground caverns and rivers and lakes,
Growing and pushing down,
Down,
Down.
And as your breath roots deep into the earth,
It spreads wide as well,
Like the roots of a tree seeking the warmth of the earth.
Now your roots have grown so deep that you begin to notice the warmth of the fiery core of earth radiating into the ground.
Allow your roots to touch this heat,
Letting it warm them.
Feel the connection between you and the earth.
Now is the time to release.
Send with your breath anything that doesn't serve you.
Breathe it down into your roots.
Let it sink far,
Far away into the earth.
Release all of your troubles,
All of your worries,
All of your fears.
Imagine all of it traveling out of your body,
Through your roots,
Deep into the earth.
And then become aware of the heat and pressure at the core of the earth.
See and feel this warmth and energy beginning to move into your roots.
Let it flow up,
Up,
Up through the deep earth,
Moving up through the underground waters,
Up through rock,
Up through the soil,
And right up into the soles of your feet.
This warm,
Fiery energy keeps rising,
Filling you up.
Let yourself feel the warmth,
The safety,
The support of the earth.
Continue to rest here for the next few moments,
Allowing yourself to feel held,
To feel supported.
Knowing that anytime your mind begins to wander,
You can simply notice and get it right back to your breath.
If your mind has drifted away,
Return your awareness gently to your surroundings.
Feel the sensation of your breath.
Feel the connection with the ground beneath you.
Notice any subtle movements within your body.
Place your hands next to you,
Palms facing down.
And give thanks to the earth for its support and grounding.
May your day be filled with peace and possibility.
