Soul Mission Vs. Spiritual Journey
by Gladys Ellen
The definition of Balance is "an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady". So often we forget about the importance of spiritual balance. Soul Mission is the work you do in service of others. Spiritual Journey is the work you do to support your personal growth. In this podcast, I will talk about these two paths in life and how each requires attention in order to live a balanced, fulfilled life.

Hi friends,
This is Gladys Ellen and welcome to Heavenly Hugs,
A podcast guided by Angels.
It is here I will share my personal angel stories and insight so that you too can be uplifted and blessed by these beautiful beings of light.
Hi friends,
Today I'd like to talk to you about a concept,
An idea,
Something that I started to see in my own spiritual journey right after I left that corporate job and started working with clients.
So what I have noticed is that on our spiritual journey we have two paths that we should be exploring in life.
We have our soul mission and then we also have our spiritual journey.
And our soul mission is anything and everything we do for others,
The way that we serve,
It's our jobs,
The way we let people go at stop signs,
The way we comfort and support friends.
Our spiritual journey is what we do for ourselves.
So that is making sure your laundry is done,
Your body is clean,
Your bills are paid,
That you're getting rest and drinking your water.
It's how you are taking care of your physical body and the things that you're doing to support your comfort.
And so what I've noticed with caregivers,
Healers,
Earth angels,
Light workers of the planet is for a very long time so many of us were focused only on our soul mission and what we were doing for others.
I think that's where we fall into that trap of fixing,
Saving,
Changing and making better for others because we feel needed,
We feel important.
But what happens is we're in this period right now,
This phase where we're pulling away from that and we're learning about how to give and receive,
Giving to the people who want to receive and no longer giving to the takers.
There's a big difference.
Now I have to say we've all been on the other end of that.
I've been a taker at points in my life and struggling and feeling like I was drowning and trying to latch onto people to fix me,
Save me,
Change me,
Make me better.
So there is no judgment here.
I think it's just part of the process and the phase that we're in because I can see from both perspectives because I did it myself and now I'm on the other end of it and it's really part of like setting boundaries for yourself.
So so many of us for so long have been so actively involved in our soul mission,
The work we're doing,
Life purpose,
How am I serving others,
How am I showing up?
You know,
And that's like giving our time and giving our money and giving our energy and holding space for people.
And what happens if we are not paying attention to our spiritual journey,
Our physical body,
This shell of a being that keeps us moving in life,
What happens is eventually we drag it along.
And I believe I talked about this in my earlier podcasts last year,
But I'm finding now that we've entered this new phase,
This new nine year cycle being in the second year,
I'm seeing the call for us to now find balance.
That word has been coming up so much for me and finding balance between soul mission and spiritual journey.
It's like taking a walk in life and saying,
Okay,
This part or this area of my life or this time I'm going to work on my soul mission and this part and this time I'm going to work on my spiritual journey.
And it's like walking one step at a time.
One step is spiritual journey,
One step is soul mission,
One step is spiritual journey and one step is soul,
I'm sorry,
Spiritual journey.
Yeah,
Soul mission and the next step is spiritual journey.
So for me,
My,
I guess my universal warning of when I'm not taking care of myself or spiritual journey is when my room starts to get messy,
My car starts to get messy,
My mind starts to get messy.
So I have a work schedule that I work with people on a regular basis,
A one on one sessions.
Maybe I'm doing group stuff,
Maybe I'm going into businesses and so on and so forth.
So I really,
Especially as a business owner and a soul practitioner,
I have to plan out time for myself to be able to get my laundry done,
To be able to get up and eat a healthy breakfast,
To be able to get exercise in.
Because if you're out there and you work for yourself or you have a business or something where like it solely relies on you,
It's so easy to get caught up into that mentality says,
Well,
I got to work now and it's busy now and I just never know how long it's going to last.
So what happens is we end up working till burnout.
And although I love what I do,
I can really fall into that trap of being overwhelmed by it and exhausted.
And if I don't create space for myself,
Nobody will.
So if you are feeling tired,
Depleted and drained,
Take a step back and see like,
Is your house messy,
Is your laundry built up?
Do you have bills that you need to pay?
So some of the things that I do to find balance is I have reminders.
So I have reminders on my phone that remind me to pay bills,
That remind me to drink my water,
That remind me to go to bed early,
To wake up at certain times,
Get off social media at a certain time.
Now I have to say,
I have those reminders.
I can't say that I'm always good at following them,
But they're there.
So I have to set myself up for success and I'm always kind of listening.
So another thing that I've recognized in Universal Signs is that when I'm becoming depleted and drained or it's time for me to make change or move on or get going in another direction,
My finances start to scream at me.
So maybe I feel a little depleted or maybe I feel a little worried and I always take a step back and I'm like,
Okay,
Am I not fueling my own energy?
And my spiritual journey.
And that's like,
Like I said,
It's meditation,
It's praying,
It's making sure my body's clean,
My teeth are brushed and making sure that I'm getting the rest that I need.
I find that there's these little cues and these little warnings.
It kind of reminds me of your car.
So I have a car that is kind of like a smart car and it tells me when the tire pressure's low.
It tells me when I need to get an oil change.
It tells me when there's something wrong with the engine.
There's all these warning signs.
It tells me when I need gas.
And so,
So many of us are in this place where we're tuning in and learning how to listen to this intuitive guidance,
This like this smart soul that's telling us when we need something.
And so giving yourself that time on your spiritual journey to pray and rest and meditate and even exercise and burn energy.
What happens is you heighten those intuitive senses that your body speaking to you and saying,
Hey,
You need this,
Hey,
You need that.
A lot of times people ignore those.
What happens if you ignore your gas light?
Or what happens if you ignore your tire pressure gauge or the check engine light?
What happens?
You end up stuck on the side of the road or even worse in the middle of the road somewhere,
Right?
And so we all have choices.
We all get these warning signs.
And I think it's important now more than ever to take a step back from your soul mission.
Like I said,
If you're doing everything for everybody or you're running around and you have all these have tos and shoulds,
What responsibilities and tasks can you give back to that person?
Maybe you have children that you're doing their laundry for.
Hey,
It's great to work together as a team,
But if it becomes your job and they're ready,
Feeling an able or maybe like the keyword is able,
Give it back to them.
If you've taken on responsibilities,
But your life has changed to give it back,
Work together as a team.
And that's that part of using your voice and making adjustments.
Because what happens is we just become more tired and depleted and drained.
So soul mission is excellent stuff.
It's beautiful ways to serve and to give back and to comfort and support and teach inspire.
Again,
If that's how you're feeling alive,
If that's how you're feeling needed and making your place in the world,
Unfortunately it sets you up for burnout in the long run.
Now I have to say,
I have a history of burnout,
Highs and lows.
I just turned 39 years old and I mentioned this in my last podcast.
I've really been reflecting on this last 10 years.
And it has been hard.
It has been eye opening.
And one of the themes that I realized is I've been so busy building my practice,
Building my business,
Focusing on this external energy that I feel like my body and my mind are playing catch up right now.
So I've been doing a lot of things to work on my mental health.
That's spiritual journey stuff.
I've been doing a lot to get back in touch with my body.
A lot of times we're operating with our mind in one place and our body in another.
And so what I realized,
I was recently doing a therapy session with a friend who was just trained in EMDR training and I was curious about it and we worked on this focus.
And as we're going through it and I'm listening to my body,
I'm realizing,
Man,
I've been like a drill Sergeant with my body.
And it was just really like,
It was kind of like an epiphany.
It was,
It was sad.
I realized like,
I didn't mean to do that.
I didn't mean to be so hard on my body,
But when I was listening to it,
My body was saying,
Stop being a drill Sergeant.
Stop pushing and forcing and trying to make things happen.
And I think this is important to share.
I'm a spiritual person.
I work with people and helping them,
Well,
Supporting people and guiding them in their own life at periods that they're at.
But I certainly don't have it all figured out.
I feel like we're all working together and I always ask God to send me clients that I can bless,
That can bless me as well.
And it seems to always work out that way.
So I am so grateful for the people who walk through my door or book an appointment for me to call on the phone or work via Skype because I'm always learning too.
And so,
And that's why I share all aspects of me,
Like the good,
The bad and the indifferent,
Because I feel like it makes me human.
And I feel it's relatable and it helps to realize that we're all going through it.
So I say so often,
I think based on the work that I do,
I see patterns.
I see caregivers,
Healers,
Earth angels,
Light workers,
Empaths,
Sensitive people,
This genre of energy,
These certain beings of light going through this metamorphosis and this change.
And so,
And me going through it myself.
So it's like I'm going through this stuff and this podcast is giving me an opportunity to share it,
To really lessen the impact and speed up the recovery for yourself.
So with regards to like soul mission and spiritual journey,
It's like,
It's like for me,
What has happened is because of the work that I do,
My soul mission and my spiritual journey have kind of intertwined and they've kind of come together,
But that's not always true for everybody.
So some people,
So it's not meant,
I guess,
For everybody to leave their jobs and start a business or do something new.
Some people,
Their passion and their love is going kayaking or rock climbing or mountain biking.
And there's limited access,
I guess,
In a way to make a living at that.
So people have manifested jobs that give them really great vacation time or really great pay so that they can do these other things.
So those activities and those things that you enjoy are also part of your spiritual journey.
You're doing them for yourself.
And one of the things,
As I've contemplated this last,
Going into this last year for me and being in 2018 is that I've been missing and lacking in adventure and joy.
And just recently,
Within the last couple days,
I'm realizing that I'm feeling like a little bit of a lost soul and missing community.
I'm missing family and depth in family.
I'm missing a home and a network.
And although I've created it in certain areas,
Personally,
It's something that I need to focus on.
So I'm just taking this time to go within and embrace the spiritual journey part and kind of sit with my soul and say,
Okay,
What's next?
Like I've heeded the warning signs.
I've recognized them.
And when my mind and my body are operating in the same accord or in alignment with each other,
I feel like that's when energy gets moving.
I was having a session with a client and one of the thoughts or the visions that I got was that operating from the mind and trying to navigate soul stuff from the mind is like following a dysfunctional compass in the Bermuda Triangle.
All you're going to do is get more confused,
More lost and end up crashing.
And I'm probably going to do another whole podcast on that.
But when I said it out loud,
I was like,
Hey,
There's something to that.
It was a visual that I could really connect with.
Operating from the mind is like following a dysfunctional compass in the Bermuda Triangle.
Whoa.
So I just stopped and I kind of wrote that down and I'm like,
Yeah,
Like that's the space that so many of us been in.
Just getting consumed by the world and everything that's happening and all these emotions of fear and worry and anger.
It's just really becoming toxic to our bodies on our spiritual journey.
So we're coming up to the phase of,
Well,
Not the phase,
But the double eclipse energy and July 13th,
Mercury will be going retrograde.
And for me,
I no longer feel fear with those energies.
I just know that it will be time to pause and reflect.
It won't be a very active time for me.
It will be a time to get things done that I've been procrastinating on and just really kind of going within.
I always say,
This energy is coming,
So I'm going to go in my hole.
And what I mean is like I just really take breaks.
I make better decisions about where I put my time and energy and the type of projects that I take on.
So I no longer see it as a place of fear and doom and gloom.
And I think that's the energy with Mercury retrograde that's been built up.
But really it's an opportunity for you to pause in your soul mission and really kind of reevaluate your body,
Your spiritual journey and yourself and make sure that you're in check,
Making sure that you're balancing soul mission and spiritual journey.
And so we talk about these paths and not everybody's path,
Soul mission,
Spiritual journey will intertwine.
So you've really got to be mindful of,
Okay,
I've needed to work these extra hours and we're busy at work.
And so where can I find pockets of time to be away from people?
Where can I find pockets of time to kind of escape for the day,
Go somewhere quiet,
Maybe go sit by the water somewhere or go on a nature walk and be with your self.
You know,
I was definitely a person for a long time that always had to be around somebody.
I wasn't comfortable with myself.
Lately I've been so,
I've been so with myself and so pay so much attention to my spiritual journey that I'm actually feeling a little lonely now,
Which again,
Isn't a bad thing,
But it's showing me that it's time for me to start integrating and putting myself out there again and going to do fun things with friends and traveling and exploring.
So I'm planning trips for the next year and I'm planning like retreats and things that I'm going to do to integrate with a tribe and a community and my,
My quote unquote people.
And so instead of looking at it as a bad thing,
I'm looking at it as an opportunity to say,
Okay,
It's time for me to shift here.
You know,
So for a long time,
Most of this year,
I've kind of unplugged from the social scene and now I'm starting to feel like I miss it.
And like in the beginning of the year,
I was so like social that I was like,
I need time to myself.
So you may recognize those areas of in your life where you've got to pull back or you've got to jump in and to put a name to it and to be able to label it as like soul mission and spiritual journey,
I think can really help with navigation.
I think it can help with the phase that you're in.
You know,
I,
Especially with the type of person that I am as I internalize or I can internalize things as I'm doing something wrong or I'm messing up or I'm procrastinating,
I'm wasting time and I can get very judgmental of myself.
And I think that's where my body was saying,
Hey,
Drill Sergeant,
No offense to drill Sergeant.
But listen,
Like chill out,
Like stop pushing me.
I need to rest.
So,
You know,
I've kind of been listening to my body with when it's time to exercise,
When it's time to eat what I feel like eating,
You know,
I'm consciously going into the supermarket and listening to that spiritual journey.
Part of me of that physical body saying like,
Okay,
What do I feel like eating?
You know,
I,
I buy yogurt and then it wastes.
Why?
Because I'm buying it just to buy it because I think I should,
But my body doesn't even want it.
So I'm going in there and looking at fruits and vegetables.
I mean,
I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and grains.
You know,
I may eat fish,
But beef,
Pork and chicken is not part of my diet.
Only because,
You know,
I feel better without it.
So I really have to be conscious of eating healthy foods.
That is all part of spiritual journey stuff.
And if I've ignored my body for so long,
Guess what?
I ended up eating junk and I ended up feeling cloudy and frustrated and emotional and confused.
So what I've decided to do is really over this last year so far is embrace it and really kind of pay attention to the warning signs before I end up stuck on the side of the road.
So if you are,
And again,
You may be in the space like,
Like I am now that I've been so on my spiritual journey that I'm missing that soul mission stuff.
So if you're in a place in your life right now that you know,
It's time to transition.
If you've maxed out where you are with your job and the way you're serving others and you're seeking like a passion project or something,
Call on the Archangel Ariel.
Archangel Ariel is phenomenal for guidance on your soul mission.
She is the soul mission angel.
And I have to say when I first started taking energy,
Energy work and,
And intuitive classes and trainings and things like that,
I would always ask Archangel Ariel to send me the money that I needed for these trainings.
I asked her to guide me to the right teachers and mentors that will benefit me on my path.
So you know,
I always say let these,
Let these guides be your go to instead of your last resort.
Like I said,
Operating from your mind.
The other angel that I suggest is Archangel Michael.
He helps us to move through worries and fears.
So change can be scary.
It's a natural part of,
Of,
Of,
Of being a human and Archangel Michael can really be a force that works with you helping Ariel open those doors for you,
Clearing the way so that you can move forward easily and effortlessly.
And then also to the other angel that I feel like is a wonderful angel to call on to help you in this space is the Archangel Shamuel.
Archangel Shamuel,
He comes into our lives when we're at a crossroads.
So,
So right now I'm recording this podcast on July 1st.
We are exactly at the halfway point of the year in 2018.
So as you listen to this podcast,
Know that you're still in the energy and it's a really great time to kind of reevaluate this year.
Are you where you want to be?
And if not hit that reset button and kind of set a plan for yourself for the next six months.
So I feel right now I am at a crossroads.
I'm at a place where I know it's time to make some changes.
Things have gotten a little stagnant.
I'm feeling a little bored.
I'm really looking and I'm feeling like I want that sense of community and tribe and adventure.
I'm,
I'm,
I'm really looking towards making changes on my soul mission as I've been really taking care of my body lately and I'm calling on the Archangel Shamuel.
I'm calling on him to kind of be that light to help me along the way.
So Ariel and Shamuel and Michael,
They're powerful angels to help you find balance on your soul mission and spiritual journey to help you find those people,
Places,
Things and ideas that will fulfill this essence of,
Of,
Of life that you know,
We're looking for.
And I don't know,
Maybe I'm the only one feeling this way.
And I always find that as I,
I share these things,
There are other people who are going through it or maybe you're not there yet or maybe it's coming upon you or maybe you've moved,
Just moved through it.
And so this is a really great way to process things for me.
So I always,
I always appreciate you listening.
I appreciate your emails.
I appreciate your stories.
I've been getting,
I've been getting like people have been sending me stories on how the angels are working with them in,
In,
In,
In their lives after they've heard my podcast.
So I can't thank you enough for that.
It fills me up and it inspires me to keep channeling and communicating and talking.
And I,
I want to encourage you to be mindful about your soul mission and your spiritual journey and the work that you're doing on both.
And there are going to be times where we have to pause one for the other.
And I always say,
Don't let it get to the point where you're crashing and then you have no choice,
Whether it's through an illness or a weakness or just being completely burned out,
Recognize it and start setting yourself up for success.
I have certain days off that I know is my time and I don't set anything for those days.
And then I wake up those days and saying,
Okay,
Well maybe I'll go rollerblading for a few miles today or maybe I'll take a bike ride or maybe I'll just go for a walk.
Maybe I'll just read a book.
And so I give myself permission to create the space but not micromanage it and giving like myself that permission to,
To ask myself,
What do I want to do or what do I want to eat when I walk into the supermarket instead of creating this list of things that I'm just not going to eat and that just wastes.
So that's my podcast for today.
Real mission versus spiritual journey.
And of course,
If you ever have any questions,
Feel free to email me.
And if you have any ideas or things that you want me to talk about in the podcast,
Email me and I'd be happy to explore those things with you.
You know,
Like I said,
I always ask God to send me clients that I can bless that can bless me as well as well.
So I thank you for listening.
And as always,
Friends,
I send you love with heavenly hugs.

This podcast was super-timely for me! I am on a healing journey back to my soul after a diagnosis that could have been devastating; however I have approached it as the supreme opportunity to heal myself at the soul level. So thank you for your insights!
