This guided meditation is a journey inviting one to search inward and examine the thoughts that imprison us from living a free life. As we contemplate our resentments and motives, it encourages us to be prepared to let go and write this list. This is suggested in the Fourth of the Twelve Steps upon which it is based. It is also a practice in many traditions where self-examination is the key to setting oneself free.

Take a comfortable seat as you breathe in,

Letting go.

Breathing now,

Relaxing,

Breathing in renewed energy,

Light,

Breathing out toxins,

Negativity,

Letting go of tension in our face,

Our jaw,

Our throat,

Feeling the soft rise and fall of the belly as we breathe in and out,

Flipping deeper into a place of introspection,

Into a place that is a closet full of resentments.

Now before you open that door,

Just remember,

I know you would be mad if these people acted this way towards me,

But I would be upset.

But,

Well,

Open that closet door and pull those out.

Pull out all those different boxes,

Boxes of people at work,

Boxes of the past,

Your parents,

Your siblings,

Your teachers,

Your friends,

And those annoying acquaintances,

All those things that get in your way,

The way people drive.

We have to wait in offices so long for appointments.

Whatever it is,

Pull out those things and just see how you are with those.

How many resentments you have,

Well,

You're going to be able to finally get it right with them.

Write them out.

See yourself writing them out.

Now each box,

Go ahead,

Do it.

Write them out.

Even that little one that you didn't think was a big deal,

Or that one that's way in the corner,

That one you're never going to let anyone see,

You pull them all out.

Now see,

You really want to get this whole closet of,

Whole thing of resentments really set straight.

I know it's their fault of every reason,

But we can't afford to be angry.

So make a resolve to see what your part is in that.

Hmm,

Perhaps it's a lot of eye rolls.

Maybe you were thinking you were better than someone,

Put them down and feel a little bit better.

Maybe you were angry at that person because you were as ambitious as them,

Or maybe they were threatening your personal relationships.

Oh,

There's a whole lot of reasons,

But for right now,

When you have these all out,

Make a resolve to take your higher power with you,

Get rid of these,

That you're not going to carry them with you.

You are going to get rid of each and every one of these.

So ask your higher power to be with you so you can get rid of these.

You know what you have to do.

So make that firm resolve.

See yourself doing it in action,

Riding it out.

You can do it.

Just one at a time.

Breathing in,

Letting go,

Coming back to your question,

Feeling that,

A little more confident that you'll be able to get through this.

Funny thing is I used to be a friend of Bill as well, still always will be, however found another route that worked better for myself. HOWEVER, Iโ€™m dealing with a heavy resentment & before I call my dear friend/mother figure/old teacher (without me saying the word).. I decide to do a meditation on resentments. BOOM if that isnโ€™t our HP idk what is. Thank you so much for your service to others .

Lovely meditation to clear your head and release all the junk that we sometimes unknowingly hold on to. Gera reminds us to let go and allow joy to come in ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Thank you for this short reminder that letting go of our resentments is the only way for us to get that negativety out of our lives. I appreciate how this is short enough that I can fit it in when I only have a few minutes free, but I would love a longer version of this with a forgiveness component included for when I have a bit more time in my day to really focus on removing this negativity from my mind.
