Reflections On Giving Up Defects

This practice revolves around Step 6 and the examination of our own thoughts and actions and how these defects may not always serve us. To take a pause is usually preferable to our automatic reactions. Taking a little more care of ourselves is something we all deserve. That little pause can allow our words to emanate from a higher plane or we may choose to say nothing at all, taking that next breath and letting go. Just how important is it anyway?

Taking our seat,

We breathe in,

Relax,

Breathing out,

Letting go of any tension we're holding,

Breathing in,

Breathing in possibility,

Letting go of limitations,

Breathing in love,

Letting go of fear.

As we breathe in and out we go a little deeper and connect with ourselves deeper to that power,

That higher power within us and see what things could we give up today.

Maybe we were a little impatient at this door,

Or maybe when that person was talking to me at work I gave the eye roll,

Or at least in my head did the eye roll.

Maybe I was a little impatient in that phone call or maybe I shouldn't have sent out that text.

You probably felt good at first doing all those things.

Makes you feel a little bit better than the other guy.

Unfortunately they only last for about a minute and then you think this feels really familiar and not really good.

Maybe we are impatient,

Maybe we have self-righteous anger going on,

Maybe we have envy,

Or gluttony,

You know just taking another bite or ordering that one thing we really didn't need to order.

Maybe we haven't allowed our bodies enough rest,

Maybe we've been ignoring our physical needs.

Oh I don't mean to say that we have physical desires that are wrapped up as a romance when they're really lost,

But talking about maybe we need to eat and sleep better.

Maybe we need to communicate better,

To listen a little closer.

Maybe we just need to be more open and open to the world.

Maybe we just need to take those things and say I'm not going to do this anymore,

Maybe there's another way of doing things.

Maybe I could be nicer,

Have a little more integrity,

Have a little more patience,

A little more tolerance,

Oh that's a hard one.

Well we don't have to do it today,

But we should work on it because if we get rid of those things we'll get to feel a little better about things and about ourselves as we learn a new way of being,

A new way of being open to ourselves and to others.

Breathing in and feeling possibility,

Breathing out,

Let go of all those things you don't need to not do.

All those things you don't need to not do.

Letting go as you come back,

Come back to sit.

It was very interesting and different than other meditations I’ve tried. The guide doesn’t sound like she is overly focused on being quiet and relaxing. Her vocal is very natural and soothing

Was quite interesting - really loved the drumming. Also really like the message. I am in recovery and working the steps, I believe I will make this part of my morning routine.
