Welcome to the Inner Smile Meditation.
Using your inner smile is a simple yet powerful relaxation technique.
A genuine smile transmits loving energy that has the power to integrate and heal yourself and others.
As you literally smile at yourself,
That has the effect of raising your energy level,
Preparing you for peak performance.
It also enhances your level of self-acceptance.
This is a great practice that you can do at your home when you first wake up in the morning or any other time when you just want to relax or increase your sense of positive energy and self-appreciation.
So go ahead and sit up straight in your chair.
Your legs should be about hip width distance apart and your feet should be flat on the floor.
Place your hands comfortably on your lap.
Just close your eyes and breathe normally.
As you breathe and notice your chest rising and falling,
Begin to relax all the muscles in your face.
And now relax all the muscles in your shoulders and in your arms and your legs.
As you relax,
Imagine being in a very relaxing place.
Perhaps the place where you've felt most relaxed in your whole life or a place you'd like to go when you just want to relax.
As you breathe naturally,
Imagine seeing your own smiling face out in front of you.
Feel that smiling energy like sunshine being drawn into your eyes.
Feel it relaxing all of the skin on your face.
Feel it going deep inside your facial muscles and relaxing and warming your whole face.
Let that smile flow into your mouth,
Gently lifting its corners.
As you continue to smile,
Bring that swirling energy into your jaw.
Feel the jaws release any tension that's held there.
Smile down into your neck and throat and feel the energy melting any tension that might be there.
Let that smiling energy flow down into your heart on the left side of your chest and smile to your heart and thank it for its constant and essential work pumping blood throughout your whole body.
Feel your heart relax as it works more easily.
Let the energy of your smile fill your heart with love and joy.
Now smile into your lungs thanking them for the wonderful work in supplying oxygen to the body.
As you breathe into your lungs,
Feel them fill up with goodness and courage.
Smile now into your liver and your kidneys thanking them for helping you digest your food and keeping your blood clean.
You can feel yourself letting go of any anger or fear that may be present.
Send your smiling energy to your stomach now and thank it for the work that it does digesting the food that you eat.
And smile into your intestines and thank them for absorbing the nutrients from your food into your body.
Continue to send your smiling energy down into your hips and upper legs.
Feel the warm energy of your smile relaxing all the muscles there.
And finally feel your inner smile extending down into your lower legs and feet.
Feel your whole body now feeling loved and appreciated.
Notice that smiling and loving energy extend through your whole body.
Whenever you're ready,
You can slowly open your eyes and come back to the room.
Before you get up you may want to stretch your arms and your legs and extend that loving energy that still exists.
