Breathe in,

Breathe out,

Breathe in,

Filling your belly,

Filling all of you,

Letting the breath reach all places,

All cells,

And dwell.

Breathe out,

Emptying your belly,

Allowing the breath to take with it any tensions or stresses of the day.

Empty the breath and dwell in the absence of it.

Focus your mind on the in-breath and the out-breath,

The in-breath and the out-breath,

The in-breath and the out-breath.

In this moment,

Really notice the quality of the breath,

The motion,

The sound,

The feeling.

Where does the breath come from?

It's always here,

Always when you need it.

The body and the space around you,

Always working in perfect concert to make sure it is there for you.

In and out,

In and out,

In and out.

Notice as the breath brushes through the nostrils and almost instantly rushes into the lungs,

Taking space in the chest and the belly,

Filling you and allowing your body to make more space.

Same body,

But made taller,

Grander,

Lighter with the in-breath.

Notice as the breath glides back through the nostrils,

Chest and belly retracting,

The body coming back to itself,

The same body but made more solid,

Stronger,

More still with the out-breath.

In and out,

In and out,

In and out.

What do you need in this moment?

The list may be long,

It may be short,

But the breath is the most basic,

Common human need.

It is essential,

No matter who you are or what the circumstances happen to be.

In this exact,

Precise moment right now,

The breath is what matters.

It is this moment's matter,

And each moment's matter.

The breath is our most important ally.

It sustains the very life within us,

And it is right here,

With abundance,

Without effort,

Without thought,

Without striving,

In and out,

In and out,

In and out.

How incredible we are,

Our body,

Our space,

Working in exquisite harmony to provide exactly what we need in this exact moment,

In the exact amount we require.

Breathe in,

Let the breath light up each area it touches with gratitude.

Breathe out,

Send the light of gratitude from your body to your space.

As you continue with your day,

May you find the small wonders in the essential.
