Our fourth in the series of pilgrimage songs from the book of Psalms.
Psalm number 124,
A psalm of liberation.
We will focus on verses 6,
7,
And 8.
Blessed is the Lord who did not let us be ripped apart by their teeth.
We are like a bird escaped from the fowlers trap.
The trap broke and we escaped.
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
Maker of heaven and earth.
Can we for just these few moments sense and feel the spaciousness,
The liberation around us,
The freedom we might have.
So in a seated position,
Sit in a dignified way.
Rest your eyes on a fixed object or close them.
Lay your hands on your lap or fold them on top of one another.
Resting your hands in the center of your body.
Now begin to breathe.
Maybe you take deeper breaths.
Feel the spaciousness of your whole body.
Become aware of what's going on in your body.
What's happening in your body as you sit in this dignified way.
Become aware of the room around you.
Maybe there are people or even objects in the room.
Taking it all in.
Open up as wide as you like.
Begin to breathe.
Be here right now in this beautiful spaciousness.
The psalmist says we have escaped.
Breathe in,
Breathe out.
Allow your awareness to be open.
Allow it to be spacious.
Breathing in,
Breathing out.
This is spaciousness.
Rest in it.
When thoughts arise in this space,
Allow them to arise.
When feelings arise in this space,
Allow them to arise.
Each time this happens,
Return gently to the awareness of your breath.
Resting in awareness.
Letting things be just as they are.
Breathe in,
Breathe out.
Become aware of the spaciousness of the sky.
Breathe in,
Breathe out.
Allow yourself to be just as you are in this moment.
Spacious,
Free,
Liberated.
And at the sound of a bell,
Receive the world with a smile on your face,
Welcoming the spaciousness around you.
