This practice has all the elements of classic mindfulness of breath, with the added benefit of facilitating a feeling of rest and relaxation. Adequate rest can sometimes feel elusive. This practice will support you in letting go of a mind busy with thoughts, connect you to your breath and open the possibility for a natural transition to restfulness. This session was recorded from my home in Johannesburg. Enjoy the gentle sounds of an authentic South African night as you do this practice.

Transcript

As we begin this practice,

Let's bring a gentle awareness to our bodies.

Just noticing the body and the gentle rise and the fall of the body as we breathe in and as we breathe out.

Allowing us to soften and to settle and to settle into our practice.

Let's notice sounds that are around.

Just noticing sounds that are around.

And now let's notice our breathing.

Just noticing the breath.

And allowing the breath to become a point of focus.

And an anchor above all else.

Resting and settling on the breath.

Resting and resting on the breath.

Just the breath as a point of focus above all else.

And if you find your mind has wandered off into thinking,

Just notice that.

And gently but firmly bring your attention back to the sensation of breathing.

And resting on the breath.

And if you notice your mind has got lost in thinking,

Just say thinking.

And gently but firmly bring your attention back to the sensation of breathing.

Resting and resting.

And resting on the breath.

Softening and resting.

And letting go.

And if you find your mind has wandered off into thinking,

Just noticing that.

And gently but firmly bringing your attention back to the sensation of breathing.

Resting.

Resting.

And resting on the breath.

The long pauses allow one to drop into the process, bringing deep relaxation and peace. I also like the sound of her voice.
