Lay Down Your Burdens
by Tim Ellerbe
This is my very first guided meditation. I composed the backing soundbed and it is presented in tandem with my significant other, Bridget. In this practice, follow as Bridget walks you through casting aside emotional baggage that hinders you from being a complete person.

Hey,
How you doing?
I am so glad that you wanted to take a walk today.
I am so glad that you had some stuff that you wanted to unload.
So let's go for our walk.
Before we leave,
We're going to grab some things.
We're going to grab our backpacks of life.
We're not going to take the big backpack.
We're going to take the smaller backpack.
The one that can only fit about three,
Maybe four things into it.
So let's grab that one.
And let's go walking.
As we walk along the path,
Heading towards the park,
We're going to take some deep breaths.
We're going to do some deep breathing.
And so we're going to have some quiet time,
You and I.
And I'm right here with you,
Walking right next to you.
And we're just going to walk in silence for a while.
So we're going to listen to the music that we've both got our earbuds in.
We're just going to listen to whatever is playing.
And we're going to go walk.
The entrance to the park that we're going to has some stairs.
And there are some things that happened this week,
Last week,
That they're in your backpack of life.
They're in this little small baggie that you're carrying.
They're in this small space that it's like a plant that you're watering.
So today,
We're going to throw out the plant,
Because actually,
The plant is a weed.
And it's a weed you've been watering.
And you don't want weeds in your garden.
So we are going to take out that baggie.
We're going to take out that weed.
We are going to unload a festering thought,
A festering feeling,
A festering emotion.
As we step up to this first step to go into the entrance of the park that we're about to walk through,
Let's stop right here.
And whatever that feeling,
Whatever that emotion,
Whatever that situation was,
And notice I said was,
Because it's over.
So we're going to,
Since it's over,
It's past.
And since it's the past,
It's already happened.
So we're going to leave it right here.
Whatever it is,
Drop it right here.
Just as though you are flicking something off of your hands,
As though you are flicking away something that you don't want anymore.
Just with your hands by your side,
Just flick away whatever it was.
Whatever it was,
It no longer serves.
So we're going to flick it away.
We're going to drop it as though you are dropping something in your hand that you no longer want.
Drop it right here,
Right now.
I know that took a lot because it was still bothering you.
As we walk away,
And come on,
Let's climb two more steps.
When we get to the third step,
We are both going to turn around and wave bye-bye to whatever it was.
It's gone.
We're going to say bye-bye to it.
Turn,
And let's go,
And let's enter through the gate of this part.
We've got some walking to do.
Wow,
This is an amazing park.
What is that?
There are garbage cans on each side of this walking trail.
Every three feet,
There are three garbage cans.
What we're going to do today,
In your backpack of life,
We're going to throw some things away.
Are you ready?
Do you want to let go of what's in that small backpack of life that you no longer need,
That no longer serves you?
It doesn't help in any way.
Sometimes it even harms,
Because it makes you feel smaller than you are.
And you are so big,
And you are so magnificent.
You are beautifully and wonderfully made.
You are strong.
You are capable.
You are smart.
You are motivated.
You are determined.
You want more.
So let's unload some junk.
Let's start walking.
There's a garbage can.
Let's take our backpacks off.
You unzip yours,
And I'll unzip mine.
As we both start to look through our backpack,
Let's decide what we're throwing away.
What are we going to throw in this can?
And look,
The can has a lid on it that,
Once we put whatever it is in here,
We can't take it back out.
So you ready?
Close your eyes.
Reach into your backpack.
Take out whatever that first item is that you want to get rid of.
And let's throw it away.
Ready?
One,
Two,
Three.
Ah,
That took a lot of time.
I'm going to put this on the back.
I'm going to put this on the back.
I'm going to put this on the back.
Ah,
That took a lot to throw that in there,
Didn't it?
Breathe.
Breathe through it.
Wave bye-bye to it.
And let's walk some more.
Here's another can.
Here's another.
It's got an even bigger lid.
And whatever we throw in here,
We can't take out of this one either.
Okay,
So deep breath.
Let's reach into our backpack.
And let's throw something else away.
Ready?
One,
Two,
Three.
Ah,
Wow.
I feel a little lighter.
Do you?
Let's walk some more.
It is a beautiful day.
The sun is out.
The birds are singing.
Everything is so green.
The sky is so blue.
The flowers are so vibrant.
The trees,
The leaves on the trees are so green.
Can you feel that?
It's a really nice,
Warm,
Gentle summer wind.
It's a really great day to go and take a walk and just throw away some things we don't need anymore.
Things that no longer serve.
Things of the past that really we should have been let go.
But for whatever reason,
Whether it be comfort or just not knowing how to get rid of it,
Today is a great day.
You picked a great day to get rid of this stuff.
I am so proud that you wanted to go for this walk today.
Here's the last garbage can.
You know what?
Not only are we going to throw this last item in here that's in our backpack,
How about we throw the whole backpack away?
The item and the backpack.
That way we leave all of it.
The little backpack,
Whatever it is,
We aren't even going to take it out of the backpack.
We're just going to take the item that's in the backpack and the backpack and let's just throw it in this can.
Ready?
One,
Two,
Three.
Wow.
The backpack and whatever was in your backpack is in this can.
And this one has a lock on the lid,
So we really can't take it out.
Oh,
Wow.
It's a great day to go and take a walk.
Wow,
It looks like we've reached the end of this walking path.
Take a deep breath.
You accomplished a lot today.
Those things you wanted to get rid of,
You got rid of them.
Those things that no longer served,
You got rid of them.
Smile.
Smile at yourself.
Smile for you.
Because you know what?
You.
Wonder for you.
You threw away those things that no longer serve.
As we walk through the gates,
As we're leaving the park,
As we leave out of these beautiful,
Wow,
These beautiful bronze gates,
As we leave out,
Turn,
Look at those cans down that road that is now the past,
Because you've walked through it.
You walked through the valley.
As you have walked through the valley,
You have never been alone.
You have never been forsaken.
So wave bye-bye to everything that you threw away.
And let's walk forward into a new park,
Into new things.

This was really nice Tim & Bridget. Thank you for this beautiful meditation. Iโm working on the small backpack as well, but the large one is demanding a lot of attention to throw out the very old stuff first. ๐น๐๐ฝ๐๐๐พ๐ฆ๐๐ท๐๐๐๐๐ฒ๐โโฌ๐พ

Thank you Bridget & Tim. Ahh that made me feel lighter, letting go of fears and unnecessary burdens. And my daughter Grace fell asleep a few minutes in.. I love the concept of a letting go walk, and the soothing music. ๐โจ
