This body scan meditation uses a combination of breathwork and guided visualization to help children relax their bodies and minds. By imagining a firefly landing on one part of the body at a time, children are able to slow down their busy minds and shift the body into a state of rest and relaxation. It's the perfect addition to your bedtime routine!

Hi,

This is Erin.

To begin this meditation,

Find a comfortable place where you can lie down flat on your back.

Take a few moments to take some deep breaths,

Just inhaling,

Feeling the air fill you up and expand your body,

And exhaling,

Feeling your body sink down into the ground beneath you.

You can keep your eyes open and softly rest your gaze on the ceiling above you or simply close your eyes.

Take one more big deep breath,

Feel yourself fill up,

Exhale settle down into the ground.

And imagine that while you're lying on the ground,

A firefly lands on your right big toe.

See if you can feel the feeling of the firefly and its golden light on your right big toe.

Now imagine the firefly flies from your right big toe and lands on your right knee.

Feel the firefly and its golden light on your right knee.

From there,

Imagine that the firefly takes off and lands on your right palm.

Feel the firefly and its golden light on your right palm.

Imagine that from your palm,

The firefly takes off and lands on your right shoulder.

Feel the firefly and its golden light on your right shoulder.

From there,

The firefly takes off and lands right between your eyebrows.

Feel the firefly and its golden light right between your eyebrows.

From there,

Feel the firefly take off and land on your left shoulder.

Feel the firefly and its golden light on your left shoulder.

Now feel the firefly landing on your left palm.

Feel the firefly and its golden light on your left palm.

Imagine that the firefly takes off from your palm and lands on your left knee.

Feel the firefly and its golden light on your left knee.

And from there,

Imagine that the firefly takes off and lands on your left big toe.

Feel the firefly and its golden light on your left big toe.

Now imagine that your whole body is covered in the golden light of the firefly.

Feel it warming you from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.

Let this golden light help you feel safe and warm and strong.

Take a deep breath in and feel your body filling up and expanding with this new golden light energy.

And a long slow breath out to hold on to that stillness.

Slowly you can start to wiggle your fingers and your toes.

When you feel ready,

Gently push yourself up to a seat.
