For the nights when you are too tired to think straight and still cannot stop. It opens with a bedtime story, The Crane and the Broken Compass, about a sailor who believes he has lost his way when the instrument he depends on breaks apart in a storm, and who discovers once the weather clears that the cranes overhead, the scent of pine on the wind, and the changing colour of the water had been showing him the way the whole time. From there the story dissolves into a slow guided descent: the eyes, the jaw, the shoulders released a piece at a time, then a quiet count from ten down to one. You come to rest beside a river under a wide night sky, where the need to know how everything turns out is set down for the night. Affirmations carry on softly for hours after you have drifted, that you are safe even in uncertainty, that guidance arrives in unexpected forms, that one clear step is enough. Gentle delta waves run beneath the voice, and headphones make it more immersive.
