When your mind won't stop.
A short audio series on how your nervous system responds to pressure.
And how it begins to settle.
The series is for moments when your mind just won't stop.
And nothing you try seems to change it.
Not because you don't know what to do.
But because your nervous system is already doing something.
Your nervous system is constantly interpreting what it's receiving from your environment,
Your body,
And your thoughts.
And based on that,
It decides whether to prepare.
Or settle.
In this work.
We look at a few simple pieces.
Your state,
What your system is carrying.
And how much it can hold at any given time.
When what you're carrying is high and your capacity is reduced.
Your nervous system doesn't quiet down.
It prepares.
It's scant.
It keeps things moving.
Not as a mistake,
But as a response.
Each track in this series has two parts.
First,
A short explanation so you can understand what your nervous system is doing.
Then,
A simple practice,
Not to force change,
But to remove whatever is keeping your nervous system active.
You don't need to control anything.
There's nothing here to get right.
Simply listen.
And allow your nervous system to respond to whatever changes.
We'll begin with the explanation and then move into practice.
We often sit down expecting things to quiet.
But instead.
.
.
The mind starts asking questions.
What am I forgetting?
What if I made a mistake?
What if something goes wrong?
Those thoughts don't arrive one at a time.
They stack.
And before long,
Your mind is trying to solve everything at once.
It's easy to assume something is off.
That you can't settle.
But your nervous system is doing exactly what it was designed to do.
It is scanning.
Because of your state.
When your state is one of readiness.
Your mind stays active.
Not because you chose it.
But because something in your nervous system is still preparing.
This is where load and capacity come in.
Load is everything your system is carrying.
Thoughts?
Decisions?
Pressure.
Responsibility.
Capacity is how much your system can hold without needing to react.
When load is high and capacity is limited.
The nervous system does not settle.
It prepares.
It scans.
It keeps going.
Not because something is wrong,
But because nothing has changed yet.
Regulation gets misunderstood.
It sounds like something you do.
But regulation simply means this.
Your nervous system has stopped preparing.
And that doesn't happen through effort.
It happens when your nervous system has enough evidence that nothing is required.
Your nervous system does not trust words.
It trusts predictability.
Low Demand.
Repetition.
And time.
Time without interruption.
When nothing changes and nothing is being asked of you.
Your nervous system begins to recalibrate.
So instead of trying to calm your mind,
We're going to remove what's keeping it active.
For a weekend.
You may want to lie down or sit comfortably.
And if it feels okay.
You can gently close your eyes.
Nothing is required after this.
Take a slow,
Gentle breath in through your nose.
And a slow gentle breath out through your mouth.
Again,
Slow gentle breath in through your nose.
And a slow gentle breath out through your mouth.
One more time,
Slow gentle breath in through your nose.
Gentle breath out through your mouth.
And this isn't to change your state.
It's simply to mark the shift.
From doing.
To not needing to do.
For the next few minutes,
Nothing is required of you.
No decision.
No problem solving.
No outcomes to manage.
Just this moment.
If you can.
Stay as you are.
Let your body be exactly as it is.
Or perhaps make any adjustments to find a place that feels more comfortable.
You don't need to change your breath.
You don't need to relax your shoulders.
You don't need to do anything at all.
And if your mind starts thinking,
Let it.
You don't need to stop it.
You don't need to follow it.
Simply notice.
Thoughts appearing without answering them.
Sensations in the body without fixing them.
Nothing new is being added.
Nothing is changing.
Nothing is being asked of you.
Your nervous system notices that.
This is what allows recalibration.
Not because you made it happen.
But because nothing is interrupting it.
The ship doesn't feel dramatic.
Just feels like less.
Less urgency.
Less pressure.
Let's need to prepare.
Just stay here if you can.
Same position.
Same moment.
Same rhythm.
Let the predictability begin.
Do the work.
When you're ready,
Gently open your eyes.
Not because something is finished.
But because your nervous system recognizes,
There is nothing to prepare for.
May you remember this practice.
And maybe you bring your energy.
Maybe you bring this energy with you.
For the rest of the day.
Thank you for listening.
