In this reflection, we consider a gentler way of being human: meeting ourselves with self-compassion, allowing mistakes to be part of our growth, and remembering that joy is meant to be lived every day. We look at how the mind can change through simple practice, how the nervous system can soften, and how a steady, compassionate inner stance can slowly become natural.

Hi,

My name is Elizabeth Taijo.

I'm the creator of Happiness Sangha 14 years ago.

And since then,

Over 10,

000 people have built more happiness,

More energy,

More joy,

And better relationships in their life.

I just want to run you through the big ideas of Happiness Sangha.

These are the foundational ideas.

The first is we are here on this earth to show compassion to imperfect beings,

Especially ourselves.

We are here for self-friendliness,

Self-compassion through any mistake.

And the meaning of life is joy and growth.

You're here to find joy every single day,

And you're here to grow from every single experience.

And we're not here to judge.

We're not here to listen to that voice of the inner critic.

We're here to pay attention.

And you can prioritize a lot of things in this life.

There's a lot of other people's agendas,

A lot of expectations that will get pushed on you.

Your good mood is the most valuable thing you can give to the world.

If you want the world to give you everything,

Like good relationships and interesting work,

Resources,

If you want the world to give you a lot,

First,

Give the world your good mood.

And guard things,

Organize things,

So that you can be in a good mood.

The way we get to a good mood is being on your own side through everything,

Being on your own side always.

And a lot of people will make you doubt yourself and your own self-compassion.

When people tell you things that make you doubt yourself or that turn on your nervous system,

Ask yourself,

Does this voice have my best interests at heart?

Listen only to voices that do.

Don't listen to voices that don't.

We all have that voice inside us that makes us want to be perfect.

Perfection is a cognitive error.

I studied the brain,

And the thing that I find most incredible is neuroplasticity.

Anything you do with your mind changes the mind.

So just like if I were to get a weight and for 10 minutes a day to lift that weight,

My bicep would get thicker and stronger.

When you do certain things with the mind,

The mind replicates them on its own.

So if you practice self-compassion in your mind for 5,

10 minutes a day,

You get more self-compassionate.

If you practice awareness,

You have more awareness.

You don't need to do it all the time.

The brain changes.

Your amygdala,

Which is responsible for freaking out,

We actually do have a part of our brain responsible for freaking out,

It gets smaller.

And your prefrontal cortex,

Which is responsible for executive function,

Gets stronger.

So with time,

Your attitude does become more self-compassionate naturally.
