Settling in to make art? Need to clear your mind of all its distractions? Before you paint, sew, write, sing, perform, or sculpt, take three minutes to let go, before diving into the spiritual, creative act.

Settle into your spot and take three deep breaths, Allowing yourself to slow down and become more quiet. Deeper inhale, Longer exhale. Notice all of the external demands, Expectations, And pressures, And recognize that they are not of you. They are a part. When they agitate you, You can come to a deeper breath and soothe yourself by breathing deeply. And as all those things float externally, Give yourself permission internally to pursue beauty. Breathe into the space in you that is the ground of art making, The soul of your creativity. Breathe in deeply and honor that part of you with devotion and joy and expressiveness, And see where you feel it in your body, And allow it to flow to your fingertips and outward in that great desire to experience, To manipulate, And to make beauty. Take three more breaths as you seal this experience, And remember this part of devotion and permission to pursue beauty.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Rabbi! I cannot express how timely and powerful these 3 minutes were for me. I have always felt guilt about pursuing certain creative projects, thinking them frivolous and self-indulgent.
