Let's begin.
Just falling into our nature.
The body that is our container and vessel and motive force.
Allowing it to slow down and thoughts to unspool.
Pleasant kind of drift.
Letting yourself move out of the day-to-day and into meditation.
A space for rest and boredom and easy distraction with a generous awareness.
Just being.
Nowhere to go,
Nothing to do.
Slowing down into a deeper stillness,
Being embraced in quiet.
You notice that quiet is not silence.
Interrupted by worrying of machines and fans,
Birds,
Breezes,
Distant voices,
Basketball playing.
Whatever is around you and within you is actually part of this meditation,
Joining you.
This is exactly what's supposed to happen right now.
It's not a mistake that you're here.
This is what you are,
Who you are,
What you're doing.
It's good.
That's very good.
Maybe you need to stretch a little,
Fidget.
Notice your mind wander and come back as neurons fire imperceptibly,
But necessarily.
And when,
Not if,
When you get distracted,
Just come back.
Again and again,
You just return.
Your body,
Maybe you use the texture of your breath as a focus.
Maybe you notice my voice and that just returns you to the moment you're in.
This exact space that you want to hold on to,
Not too tightly.
You can notice your breath,
Whether your chest is tight or open.
Maybe you think about drawing the breath in more deeply and out more slowly.
That's cool.
Whatever works for you.
It's not a pressure to meditate correctly.
It's just a sitting,
A being,
A feeling,
And not doing,
Moving out of the cognitive to the sensory.
Doing one thing at a time.
We always make a mess of things.
Make mistakes,
Hurt feelings,
Elbow people,
Break plates,
Scratch our car.
It might fill you with anger or shame,
Resentment or disappointment towards another person or just yourself.
That's understandable and unfortunate,
But ultimately okay and part of living and existing.
Maybe there's something inside of you that's got you in knots.
Something you did,
Something you experience,
Something you imagine.
Those are all natural and normal outgrowths of living.
You can hold on to them as long as you like.
You absolutely have permission to nurture them.
You don't have to force your wounds,
But when you're ready,
You might want to let go.
For today,
You might just want to imagine letting go or accept the possibility of one day letting go and setting down these burdens of anger and embarrassment.
One day you might even need to apologize.
Just allow that possibility in.
Take a moment to smile at yourself for all of your mistakes and all of your horror and terror and boo-boos and ouchies,
Your stupidity as a human being,
Mine too.
We suffer,
Therefore we think.
We make mistakes and we learn.
Breathe into that possibility.
You don't have to do anything about it.
Just acknowledge that it is possible.
Breathe in deeply,
Out slowly.
Settling into whatever feelings and sensations come up when you think about these problems.
Maybe you inhale into those dark or tight places.
Maybe you exhale some of the frustration out.
Maybe you can come away a little lighter,
A little bit forgiven,
If only by yourself.
Can you forgive yourself a little at a time for all that you are and all that you aren't?
Just breathing,
Just sitting,
Just being in the quiet and the stillness,
The openness.
The world is gathering up around you to bless you and to guard you,
Whooshing in to support you with blessing and protection.
Draw it in and feel it,
Blessed and protected.
Pull it in with your breath.
The world is shining towards you with grace,
Sharing its beauty at all moments,
Looking for you.
Experience that light and that grace as deep,
Deep loving and knowing.
Breathe it in.
Take in the graceful light.
Let it penetrate you and fill you up.
Breathing it in and letting go when you exhale.
Continuing to breathe into the stillness and the quiet,
Noticing your mind wander,
Noticing little sounds around you in the quiet.
Never totally still,
Never silent,
Just existing as it ought to.
And the universe is turning towards you to offer you peace and wholeness and harmony,
Looking at you expectantly to give you all its gifts.
Breathe them in.
Take it up.
The universe that loves you and wants you to be whole and complete at peace.
Breathe it in and let go at the same time.
Taking it in and letting go.
Letting it go,
Being,
Accepting with generous awareness all of your flaws and all of your blessings,
All your weaknesses and all your strengths,
Your abilities and things you cannot do yet,
All as you were made to be.
