Cruising right in.
Just settling down and quitting on the world as it was.
The world that is not in this place.
And even all the little twitterings and fritterings in your mind start to let them fly away,
Drift away.
You can't go to zero,
But you can stop holding on to anything in particular.
Just letting it move in and out.
As Pema Chodron said,
You are the sky,
Everything else is just weather,
So let the weather come and go.
And you remain.
As Frank Herbert said in the book Dune,
Let the fear pass and only I will remain.
That's the work of meditation,
Just letting things flow over and through you.
Not becoming those things,
Not owning or holding on to those things,
But recognizing that they are phenomena.
And you persist,
At least in this human lifetime.
And that's enough.
Let meditation be like a game that you play.
Oh,
How soon can I come back?
What's noticing?
What's happening?
Be playful about it.
Oh,
There's a voice I can listen to come back to meditation.
Oh,
There's my heartbeat.
Playful and not perfect,
Because perfect isn't a real phenomenon.
And you notice your breath.
Inhaling and outhaling,
Just as it is.
Maybe you start to make it deeper and slower.
Maybe you don't.
But it's a good cue for you to keep returning to yourself,
To this moment.
Just breathing.
You can use the breath to help stretch out your chest and relax sore muscles.
Deeply in,
Slowly out.
Eyes closed,
If you're ready.
Following your breath to help you settle,
Help you stay in this place and keep returning to it.
Another good cue is listening.
You might hear air conditioning or heating unit,
A bird,
A breeze,
A breeze.
Plane overhead,
Cars nearby,
Cats purring.
Using your ears is a good cue to stay in the moment,
Because everything you hear is happening right now.
Even my voice.
Follow things back,
Right,
To this second,
This moment,
And then this moment.
And this moment.
Just loving the experience you are in,
Holding on to each moment,
Letting it go.
Drifting.
And here's a tricky one.
You can feel your pulse without touching.
It's really hard.
You can feel it beating in your chest or maybe in your neck is a good place to notice.
Sometimes in your wrist without touching,
Just sense for that rhythm.
Maybe you can even feel a flow around your body,
Blood flowing.
Maybe just imagine it.
Maybe I'm just imagining it,
Honestly.
I think it's real.
I think you can feel it.
And it is there.
It's there.
It's there.
It's there.
It's there.
Especially.
Just feeling it flow all around your body.
Or picturing it flow.
That's good too.
In your mind's eye,
You go there.
All this power and strength and energy just flowing through you without you noticing it.
You couldn't stop it.
You can manage your breath,
But you can't change your pulse with your mind.
So it's there for you unequivocally,
Consistently.
Giving you the juice and the focus to move,
To be,
To exist.
Breathing,
Taking stock,
Letting go.
Repeating.
Deep inhale,
Slow exhale.
A few times.
In addition to all the energy in your blood,
There is something intangible too.
The fire within.
Some might call it your soul or spirit.
The altar that you stoke inside.
Your passion,
Your source,
Your benevolence.
That which connects you to God or the universe,
However you understand that.
Picture it in your mind's eye,
The ember and flame you carry with you.
It is the core of you.
Beyond your heart and blood and power and strength.
Something ageless.
Connect to it.
Breathe into it.
Maybe you locate it in your body.
Maybe you don't.
Might be right at your solar plexus,
Right under your lungs,
At your ribs,
Wherever.
It'd be between your eyes.
The flame of self.
Imagine,
Notice,
Cultivate.
Stoke it.
Breathing in.
Deeply out.
Slowly,
Just feeling the blood flow,
Feeling the flame kindle.
Noticing the heat and the warmth that both provide.
It's almost all that you need.
Everything else is a kind of commentary or footnote.
Fire and blood,
Heart and spirit,
Energy and passion.
Some of the best parts of you.
Keep them safe.
Breathing in.
Exhaling.
Touching those parts of you.
Regarding them,
Blessing them,
Being grateful for them.
Let's close with some breath and some kind words to self around those fire and blood.
You have enough.
You are great.
I am grateful for my spirit and energy,
Which makes joy.
Or any other words of self-blessing you want to give yourself as we breathe.
Gather it up and prepare to take it with you.
For whatever you face today,
Good,
Bad,
Indifferent.
Helping others,
Supporting yourself.
Blessings.
