Tonight, as every night, we gather in this gentle space to set down the day’s weight and return to what is calm, kind, and true within us. However you arrive—tired, restless, or full of thoughts—you are welcome, just as you are. No need to fix or change. Only to breathe, listen, and allow. This meditation invites you to settle the body, ease the mind, and open the heart. With breath and presence as steady companions, we’ll create a spacious pause: a threshold between day and night, noise and quiet, effort and ease. Grounded in the Bedtime Shema, this practice echoes a Jewish tradition of releasing grudges, seeking shelter, and entrusting the soul to the Holy One through the night. You don’t need to know the words or come from any tradition—only bring openness to rest. If you’ve been here before, thank you for returning. If it’s your first time, welcome. Let this be your landing place, your soft exhale, your homecoming to peace.

I'm done with the day.

Letting go of it all.

Good,

Bad,

Neutral.

Saying goodbye.

Quitting,

In effect.

Letting go.

Giving up.

Sorting it out.

Moving from the cognitive to the sensory.

From the doing to the being.

Just slowing down.

Becoming more still.

Becoming wrapped in quiet.

Not testing yourself.

Not trying to do meditation correctly.

Or figure it out.

You're already doing it.

Just by sitting down.

Just by taking this time.

Lying down,

Closing your eyes.

You're here.

Will you get distracted?

You bet.

Can you try to come back and return to a meditative state?

It's possible.

If that's what you need.

Can you slow yourself down by taking deeper inhales and extending your exhale?

Maybe you yawn,

Maybe you exhale with the ancient breath word cella.

That's good.

Saying goodbye to the day,

What worked,

What didn't.

Maybe you take a moment to say a kind word to yourself.

Golly,

You make great toast.

You're a sweet mother.

Or you'd really like to learn harmonica.

You're a hard worker.

Be grateful for being yourself.

It's the best you there is.

Not perfect.

Nothing is ever perfect.

It's not a real concept.

It doesn't exist.

You just be good.

And good enough.

Slowing down,

Going deeper in your breath.

Taking a longer exhale.

Stretching,

Fidgeting,

Doing what you need to make yourself super comfortable.

And a little bit more comfortable.

Sinking in.

Falling into the darkness and the quiet and the stillness.

Letting go.

Going slow.

Having a little bit of fun.

Relaxing is fun.

Sleeping can be fun.

Dreams are interesting.

Offering forgiveness to the world.

All of the silly little things that happened today.

Good,

Bad.

Mistakes,

Errors.

People bumped into you,

Fouled you on the court.

Didn't get called.

Nastiness and rudeness and all the little things.

You could try to forgive.

You could grit your teeth and hold on to it,

Too.

I don't know if that would be fun,

But you're welcome to try.

I'm going to forgive and let go.

Not hoping that anyone is punished on my account.

And if people hurt you and hurt your feelings,

You can bet you did dumb stuff,

Too.

So maybe you just ask not to do it again tomorrow.

And that whoever it happened to,

They could forgive you.

Start again.

May that be acceptable.

You start to feel the light fading.

Evening descends.

Darkness closing in in a pleasant way.

Shadows across your eyes.

Certain kind of dizziness or wishy-washiness in your bed.

Your brain struggling to stay awake,

But not forever.

And all you have to do is get out of the way.

And let your body turn off briefly.

Are you getting distracted?

Sure.

Your brain's working.

Maybe part of it is trying to keep you awake.

That's okay.

Maybe instead of fighting that,

You just laugh about it.

It's very silly.

And in all of this,

Awake,

Asleep,

Near and far,

Night and day,

It all comes from one source.

It all comes from one origin.

The universe has a lot of shared experience.

Singularity.

And you can acknowledge that.

Just feel love and loved.

Feeling that unity,

That shared experience as you go to sleep.

Feeling it when you walk,

When you wake,

When you study,

When you lie down.

It's all coherent.

And you are sheltered.

Protected.

You can trust that the world is caring for you.

Saved from danger.

Covered with wings and a great shield.

You may be afraid,

But you don't need to be afraid right now.

Great and good forces carrying you away.

Safeguarding your passage.

Saving and saving you,

Making you strong,

Free and honored.

Delivered.

When you slow down,

Go deeper,

Get heavier.

Become more still.

The yawn.

Exhale with Sela.

Sela.

And lie down in peace.

Lying down in peace so that when the time is right,

You will get up peacefully.

Wholly and generously.

Enriched.

And invigorated.

Go out of this time in peace,

So that when you wake up,

You are filled with peace.

Blessed by day and blessed at night.

Blessed when you lie down,

So that you can be blessed when it's time to wake.

And around and around you,

Great and good forces will safeguard your sleep,

Your body,

Mind and spirit.

They looked over those who preceded us,

Our ancestors,

Just as great and good forces will look over our descendants.

Healing us.

The universe will bless you and guard you.

Take it in.

Just feel that safety.

That adoration.

The universe will turn its face to you with grace.

Absorb it.

Take that on.

Take it in.

And the universe will look toward you expectantly to give you peace.

You're breathing.

You're so slow.

Your mind is weary.

Your body is tired.

You feel heavy.

And your head starts to drift.

It's very pleasant.

You can let go because there are good forces looking out for you.

You have questions,

You have doubts,

You have concerns,

Anxieties,

All day,

Every day.

And you can just lay those down at your right side with a great and good force that will look over your worries.

Tend to them for you.

So you can face them another day in a better frame of mind.

And you push and you shove and you wrestle and you grapple materially,

Physically,

Emotionally,

Spiritually.

So you can let go of all that work.

Just put all that vigor and strength down on your left side with a great and good force that can handle all of that energy.

Just manage it for you while you sleep.

Letting go.

And ahead of you a force will carry a light,

An image through the darkness,

Illuminating your dreams.

And behind you while you sleep,

A great and good force can heal you and bring relief.

And above you all times a glorious universe shining down knowing you.

Take a few moments just to shiver and shimmy.

Adjust.

Stretch.

Wiggle.

Let go.

Let it all out.

And the world goes on and on.

It was.

It is.

It will be.

You are a part of this incredible experience of existing.

No beginning,

No end.

And you have what you need.

You can rest your body and spirit in the hand of a loving universe.

Nothing to fear.
