5/7 | Uniqueness Of Each Practice
by Keith Motes
As we deepen our journey, this session is all about understanding the subtle rhythms and the inherent uniqueness of your practice. We'll take a moment to reflect on your progress and clarify the mechanics of the tremoring process. Key topics include: - Integration: A look back at the key takeaways from Classes 1 and 2. - The "First Time" Effect: Why the tremor mechanism feels different and unique every single time you tune in. - Clarifying Analogies: Helpful ways to visualize and understand what is happening in your nervous system. - Subconscious Awareness: Learning to recognize and witness the subtle signals surfacing from within. - The Healing Cycle: Understanding the vital balance between activation and relaxation. - Choosing Ease: Why prioritizing softness and ease leads to deeper therapeutic results. - Our Mission: The values and vision behind the Shaking Medicine Foundation.

Each time we experience shaking medicine,
We will likely experience.
.
.
Very new and exciting and different things because The way that this medicine works is that it moves us from within instead of us really moving it.
Especially from the logical mind.
And so every time we tune into it,
Never expect for it to be the same.
Last class,
You might have tuned into,
Like first class,
You might have tuned into something.
Where it moved some energy.
So something got integrated.
And next time,
Even if you're tuning into the same shape with the same range of motion,
The tumour might arise.
It might be a different angle,
A different part of the body shaking,
Or it shakes in a different way.
Maybe it's more vigorous or less vigorous.
Maybe it moves through more of the body.
There's so many variables,
So many ways it can.
.
.
It can move,
But the point is here is that And if you're doing it well,
Typically it will always be quite different.
It'll move in different ways.
It'll bring up new sensations.
It'll travel through the body.
And that is a beautiful thing.
And that is really the essence of this.
It's not meant to be.
The same,
It's meant to move us in different ways every time.
So if we're doing it well.
With a real sense of authentic letting go and surrendering.
Then that is what will happen.
It'll be unique.
We'll be kind of blessed,
If you will.
Beautiful new experiences each time.
In class one,
Right,
We did a balance class.
It was a little gentler than class two.
We worked on the fundamentals,
Moving as slowly as you can.
As relaxed as you can using least possible effort with a real intention of experiencing the tremor and and starting to build a relationship with it.
In class two,
We went on to activating the tremor with more energy,
More.
.
.
Effort,
If you will,
Is one way to think about it.
More strong sort of shapes and movements and exercises to tune in.
And that actually helps a lot of people to get it for the first time.
Because if we physically exhaust our muscles,
They'll start shaking.
And it's not exactly.
.
.
Where we want to be with it but it is a beautiful start because that from there once we start shaking what we can do is Then,
Okay,
All that effort we use to get there,
To tire our body out or whatever,
We can then start to slowly relax and let it start to.
.
.
Like,
See if we can keep the trimmering happening by.
.
.
As we slowly dial down the effort,
Right?
As we dial down the effort.
Just enough to where it can keep happening.
Voila,
We are now.
Therapeutically tumourine.
Using less effort,
Which is the direction we want to go and eventually being completely surrendered.
And relaxed.
And that for our third class,
It's going to be much more passive yin class with the idea of trying to cultivate.
And to really reach these deeper.
States of surrender and letting go and letting that be more and more.
What moves this and it doesn't mean Even after you master that doesn't mean don't go back to the very activating style.
Rather,
I suggest cycling through them,
And even better,
As you cultivate more and more of a relationship with your.
.
.
Instinctive therapeutic tremor mechanism,
You can allow more and more of that natural cycling to happen on its own.
To happen in its own flow.
To move you how you need to be moved to heal,
To move energy,
To move tension,
To cultivate life force,
Whatever it is.
So.
.
.
In general,
Every time we practice,
It should get easier and easier as you cultivate a relationship with it.
You should be able to start tuning into it quicker.
Especially in parts of the body you've already tuned in.
And that should get more and more fluid as you do that.
As it starts to move,
You'll be able to move it through your body into more places.
And as that happens,
You can mentally relax parts of your body to help it move through.
Kind of micro move through ranges of motions and anywhere it might begin stuck.
We definitely need different things on.
.
.
On different days so the more we can kind of land and be with what is.
The better because.
.
.
We can allow our body to give us what we need.
That's really the beauty of shaking medicine is this sense of moving from our instinct.
I want to note that On an energy level,
So sometimes people say,
Oh,
It makes me tired,
Or sometimes it energizes me.
And sometimes it can do either,
And it depends on the day.
And again,
It can depend on what you need.
It can bring you into.
.
.
Such relaxation that you want to take a nap after.
Probably a sign that you need some deep breath.
Our art can be really uplifting.
It can give you lots of nice,
Beautiful.
.
.
Energy and bring us into what I like to call a flow state,
A flow state where like our brain waves are.
They're active,
But they're like in harmony.
Like I mentioned the instrument analogy,
We're like a beautiful instrument.
And when our brainwaves are synced up,
And they can be really fast,
But when they're synced,
We're in that sense of flow state.
And if you don't know what flow state is,
It's like this sense of being able to get everything done.
Blockages,
Stoppiness.
We're just like thinking clearly.
Usually in a joyous way.
It's a really beautiful,
Productive state.
So good for.
.
.
For work,
School,
Sports,
Or just living and relating with people,
Whatever,
It's amazing.
So let's see.
I mentioned that it can cycle us between ecstatic shaking and deep meditative stillness.
Another example of the cyclic nature of shaking medicine,
What it can bring us.
And the more we tune into this again.
The more it'll bring us to Whichever we need and likely in one session it could do both a couple of times the wave can go Can bounce back and forth a few times Let's see.
Eventually you want to get to the point with this where you can use it in your everyday life.
So maybe.
.
.
You're out.
In life and a stressful event happens and then You can go home when you're safe,
Or maybe you're already safe right after this stressful event.
And you can.
.
.
Discharge some of that energy using this.
Or maybe it's a traumatic event.
Or maybe you just did one killer workout.
You went on a long run.
And you use it to kind of reground,
To rebalance,
Recalibrate all the effort and muscles that might be tired.
So there's so many ways we can use it.
In our therapies,
If you are a therapist,
You can use it in your therapies with others.
Or for self-healing your own therapy.
And one way I like to think about.
.
.
Um,
One of my goals in checking medicine is to simplify.
This process of releasing,
Like we don't need to have a PhD in.
.
.
And psychology or anything to necessarily be able to work with this and to be able to move energy effectively.
In fact,
Actually,
It can actually be more helpful to know less because then if we think too much,
The logical mind can get in the way of this instinctive mind's process.
One way to simplify it is I like to think of stress,
Anxiety.
Suppressed emotions,
Trauma,
Even like tense muscles,
Aches,
Pains.
It's like an overall word we could use is something like,
Say,
Attention.
Or maybe even a charge,
Like think electrical charge.
Electrical energy stagnating in the body or like tension stagnating.
If we feel tense,
We can have physical tension,
We can have emotional tension.
Right,
So.
.
.
If we start to think of this energy that's.
.
.
That we're releasing with shaking medicine.
This is why I can work with all these.
Beautiful benefits of relieving stress,
Anxiety,
Trauma,
Et cetera,
And cultivating life force and all that beautiful.
All these beautiful qualities.
It's because the way that the tremor helps to release,
It's like the instinct tunes into these tensions and these charges,
The stagnant energy.
And then.
.
.
That energy has like a vibration and emotionally it might be like a vibration of anger or sadness or grief or something.
Whatever it is.
Or it might just be a tense muscle.
Chronically holding on or something.
This tension has a vibration and what we're doing with shaking medicine is tuning into the tension.
And then by surrendering.
.
.
To that sensation what we tune into and allowing we we give that tension and opportunity to be felt to move through us to vibrate through our body our mind-body complex and to be released.
And this is the same with charges.
Synonyms here,
Charges and tensions.
Maybe tensions are a little more physical.
Charges are a little more emotional and electrical.
It's one way I like to think of it.
And as we go through this awakening process,
Moving this energy,
Um.
.
.
We have a lot of these tensions and charges are just buried right there out of our subconscious awareness.
We don't feel them anymore.
And that's.
.
.
Due to the freeze response in part,
These things get frozen within us.
And if we felt.
.
.
Decades of tensions and charges all the time.
It would be overwhelming.
We wouldn't be able to.
Meet our basic survival needs.
But if we're holding on to these tensions and charges,
We're likely,
Especially if it's a lot of them,
We're likely not thriving in our life.
And I want you to thrive in your life.
I want to thrive in my life.
That's a big purpose of this Shaking Medicine Foundation.
Is to let this stuff go so we cannot just survive,
We can thrive,
We can live.
And.
.
.
And yeah,
And so as these things unfreeze,
I mentioned this earlier,
We have to go through.
.
.
Feeling them and being with them forbidden.
Letting them integrate and vibrate out and release.
And,
You know,
Different charges and tensions can take different amount of times.
To do that sometimes it might be several sessions working on one thing and each time it gets a little bit deeper it depends on the level of safety you feel and how deep and quickly you can go into something it's always better to err on the side of ease in my opinion and go a little bit at a time and then as you become more experienced then you'll just naturally know how to dive deeper and do it more effectively.
It's a natural knowing and unraveling and learning,
Or rather remembering from the experience of embodying it.
So,
Yeah.
Shaking medicine is an umbrella that welcomes all knowledge,
Especially related to therapeutic tremor.
We like to integrate that into our own wisdom and our own teachings here at Shaking Medicine.
The Shaking Medicine Foundation sharing the somatic body-based modality of therapeutic tremoring as the focus,
Though other movements can definitely complement this a lot.
I like to keep the practice and the teachings of it created,
Rooted in a foundation to keep it safe and effective.
But also in a way that the teachers can be creative with it and each class can be unique,
Just like the expression of the therapeutic tremor is unique.
In each time that you access it.
Okay,
That's enough for now.
I'll see you in class three.
