Hello,
I am Dr.
Shaniqua Walker-Barnes.
Today,
I am going to lead us through an affirmation practice to support agency and empowerment.
This is a good practice to use if you are in the habit of shooting on yourself.
That is,
You tend to operate based on what you think you should,
Must,
Or have to do.
This tends to be true for those of us who are high achievers or perfectionists or chronic people pleasers.
We tend to live with a lot of self-imposed shoulds,
The rules and expectations that we consciously or unconsciously place upon ourselves in order to prove that we are good enough.
This tends to add to our already stressful lives,
Making us feel overextended,
Overwhelmed,
And unfulfilled.
These affirmations remind us of our worth,
Our agency,
And our capacity to live in ways that honor who we really are,
Not just who we think we have to be.
This is a good practice to do in the morning or any time during the day when you need to feel empowered.
You can do it while sitting,
While standing,
Walking,
Or maybe even lying in bed.
I will go through each set of affirmations twice.
After I say each affirmation,
You might repeat it to yourself silently or aloud,
Or you can just sit in silence and allow the words to wash over you and to permeate your being.
Let us begin.
Begin by taking a deep breath in and then slowly exhale and release the air out.
Again,
Another deep breath in.
Now,
Exhale and release,
Allowing your breath to resume its natural rhythm.
Hear these words of affirmation.
I trust and honor my inner wisdom.
I release beliefs and behaviors that do not support my highest good.
I treat myself the way that I want others to treat me.
My potential is unlimited and I allow myself to dream big.
I trust my ability to overcome challenges and create goodness for my life.
My energy and time are aligned with my values and priorities.
I am becoming more of who I am.
My voice is powerful and I use it to advocate for myself and others.
I am creating a life that reflects my authentic self.
I honor the uniqueness of my journey.
I am free to make choices in all areas of my life.
I am the author of my story.
I am good enough.
I trust and honor my inner wisdom.
I release beliefs and behaviors that do not support my highest good.
I treat myself the way that I want others to treat me.
My potential is unlimited and I allow myself to dream big.
I trust my ability to overcome challenges and create goodness for my life.
