Metta bhavana, or Loving-Kindness meditation, is a method of developing compassion, and of witnessing within yourself the deepest and most pure essence of love - that of divine, spiritual love.  In this practice, Dorothy has curated a new experience of Loving Kindness - a practice beginning and ending with yourself, one that is based on witnessing your heart opening and embracing the deliberate offering of this desire to spread love outwards. For some, it may be most difficult to contemplate love of self at this level, but if you proceed with the intention to hold your heart open, you will convey love purely, heal within, and experience love as a state that you may always choose to live in. Feel the Loving Kindness that you are able to gift and to share unto others, freely.

Loving kindness is the expression of your heart wide open in giving and receiving divine spiritual love.

It is in the sharing of this kindness that offers great wisdom,

Great abundance,

Great means to the experience of your heart witnessed as the energy of love.

In loving kindness,

We practice existing in this state in evoking the feeling of loving kindness as what we are,

As what we may live as.

There may be some time in which you practice this,

And it is a challenge.

It is not offering what you had hoped.

Remember in these moments to surrender into it,

To allow the energy of love to be a part of you.

There is no need for effort,

Only the allowing,

The gentle allowing of what already is.

It always is to flow through you in all moments for you to become aware of this.

This is your soul consciousness expressed completely.

In a comfortable posture,

Consider where you can feel best the energy within your heart center,

And choose what posture will best allow you to open to this.

Bring your body to stillness.

Close your eyes.

Dwell for a time on the gentle inhalations and exhalations of your breath,

Already in motion.

Breathe in this deliberate breath,

This life-sustaining breath.

Breathe out what is your release,

The flow of your exhalation,

So gentle,

Freeing,

And relaxing.

The outpouring of energy,

Of life force,

To make room for more of what you will take in.

Breathe here for a time,

Being simply attentive,

Witness to this.

For the good of your life.

Now hold attention for a time onto your heart centre.

Feel the gentle warmth in your heart.

Perhaps lifting a hand and placing it onto your heart centre.

Notice the gentle rise and fall of your chest as you breathe.

Feel the gentle rise and fall of your chest as you breathe.

What else are you aware of?

Go deeper in your experience here.

Feel breath move through your body,

Through your being.

Experience this as a complete breath.

Follow each in-breath and each out-breath as they flow gently,

Easily through you.

Hold awareness onto your heart centre.

What do you notice?

Feel the energy here.

What does it feel like?

What are the sensations you notice?

This is the element of what you witness with presence in each moment.

Feel your focus on your heart centre.

Now direct the flow of breath into your heart.

Feel the expression of breath flowing into your heart centre.

Witness this energy as the energy of love.

Allow this to be your point of stillness.

Your focus.

Come back to the expansive nature of this energy often.

Be with it.

Let your breath directed into your heart be your point of stillness.

Your focus.

Feel the energy of loving kindness first in your heart,

Of your heart.

Be here for a time.

Soften into this feeling.

How does it feel?

When you return to the core of who you are to witness the beautiful nature of universal love and kindness first from within,

Then you can easily be this with yourself and with others.

As you hold awareness and attention onto your heart and as you feel the energy of love,

Peace,

Openness,

Expansive,

Warmth.

All things beautiful and sacred.

Oneness with the divine,

Universal consciousness.

Then as you breathe each breath,

Each time you bring breath into you,

You at once hold this beautiful energy as your infinite nature.

You hold this beautiful energy as you are loving kindness.

As you witness it as a part of you,

As your divine nature.

You hold this beautiful energy as you are loving kindness.

As you witness it as a part of you,

As your divine nature.

Appreciate the oneness of your care and love.

Of spiritual love,

Tenderness.

Love of all living beings without distinction.

You can love another being even if or when you do not agree with all of their choices or actions.

You can love their infinite presence as energy,

As what you are.

This is your expansive freedom to be love.

It is for no one else,

Just you.

And yet all beings have the unlimited potential to feel this instinctively.

And as they hold loving kindness in their heart as freedom,

As choice,

As wonder.

As the expression of love felt first from within.

You are this.

Now you are ready to share it,

To be it openly.

To live as it.

Begin with someone you feel a deep and everlasting love.

Let your heart be open,

Expansive,

Full of love.

Hold the image of this living being in your heart and in your mind as you say quietly or aloud.

May you always be in peace.

May you always feel loved.

May you always live happy.

When we expand loving kindness to others,

We also feel a connection to the inspired consciousness of what we are.

Take some time now to witness yourself in your mind's eye and in your heart.

Repeat these words aloud or to yourself.

May I always be at peace.

May I always feel loved.

May I always live happy.

Let yourself feel your words now in your mind,

In your body.

Consider next someone in your life with whom you have been struggling in your relationship.

For whatever the reason,

The relationship has not been smooth or peaceful.

What is important is your sending the energy of loving kindness to them in harmony with who you are.

In harmony with who they are,

Their inner nature.

Now repeat these words as you hold an image of this person in your mind and allow them to also be in your heart.

May you be at peace.

May you always feel loved.

May you live happy.

Continue to hold your heart open for this person.

For the person that they have the potential to be.

For their true nature.

Their ability to be kind and loving,

If not to you,

Directly then to another.

See this person as their true essence.

Their loving self.

Perhaps you connect for a time with the energy of their heart.

So free and beautiful.

The energy of who they are may not be what they show to the world,

But it is within them.

For a time,

Simply feel your heart open and your sharing of loving kindness unto them.

You do not need anything in return,

Only to hold love for another because you can.

Finally,

Imagine someone with whom it has been very difficult.

Perhaps a history of conflict or turmoil.

Perhaps an absence of love felt and received.

You do not have to continue to harbor these feelings.

The feelings of the absence of loving kindness.

In fact,

To offer this allows for you relief and the release of what has been a burden.

Consider now that all you are doing is offering loving kindness.

It requires only that you generate the same feeling now toward this person or the situation.

You may wish to surround this person in white light.

In healing light energy.

So that they more easily may receive your loving kindness.

When you are ready,

You may repeat these words aloud or in silence.

May you be peaceful.

May you feel loved.

May you live happy.

Let the energy flow of love from your heart center towards theirs.

Let your loving kindness surround them.

Be directed into them.

Perhaps you even notice them receiving this.

Be here for a time.

Holding the space to give loving kindness.

Not requiring anything in return.

Simply holding the space to give this to another.

Now after a time,

You may wish to focus inward.

Directing the energy of this love unto yourself yet again.

Perhaps you now feel its effects more deeply.

Perhaps you feel the flow of this energy as all encompassing,

All gentle,

All kind,

All compassionate.

It is this energy of love that you hold so deep in your heart center.

It is infinite.

It is certain.

It is constant.

It is love that is yours flowing freely in all moments.

The love of this is your certainty that you will always hold loving kindness for yourself,

For others,

For all living beings on the planet.

Your capacity for this is vast and sacred.

If you wish,

Remain for a time here in the beauty of your heart center.

In the beauty of the divine.

In the beauty of loving kindness,

Ever unfolding,

Ever present.

Always what you are.

Feel the beautiful source of this divine presence that exists as what you are.

Be this.
