Transcript

This meditation is created with the healing energy of a shun,

A powerful orisha in the Yoruba tradition,

Known for her love,

Beauty,

Fertility and her ability to bring sweetness and abundance,

Often symbolized by honey.

Honey has the power to heal,

Soothe and comfort and we will invoke its energy today to release the tension and emotional trauma that is often held in hips and pelvic area.

The hips and pelvis hold deep memories,

Including joy,

Pain,

Strength and vulnerability.

For many black women,

These spaces can carry the weight of trauma,

Whether personal or inherited across generations.

Shun's healing presence calls us to honor these burdens and use the breath as a sweet balm,

Flowing like honey.

Find a comfortable position,

Either seated or lying down.

If you are seated,

Ensure your spine is straight and your shoulders are soft.

If you are lying down,

Let your body be fully supported,

Allowing all parts to relax.

Close your eyes,

Gently bringing your awareness into your body and into the present moment.

Begin by connecting with your breath,

Take a deep inhale through your nose,

Allowing your lungs to fully expand,

Hold,

Then exhale gently through your mouth,

Releasing any tension you are holding.

Let's do this together for 3 deep breaths.

Inhale slowly,

Feel the cool air filling your chest and belly and exhale gently through your mouth,

Letting go of anything you no longer need.

Inhale and allow this breath to carry the energy of Wushun's sweetness,

Her love and abundance into your body.

Exhale and release what no longer serves you any tension,

Stress or anxiety.

One more deep breath in and out.

Now start to bring your awareness to the top of your head.

Gently scan your body,

Moving slowly down from the crown of your head.

With your next inhale,

Breathe into your forehead,

Your eyes and your cheeks.

As you exhale,

Release any tightness from these areas.

Inhale,

Feel the breath soften your jaw,

Neck and throat.

Exhale and let go of any tension softening the muscles.

Continue to breathe down through your shoulders and arms.

On each exhale,

Let the heaviness in your shoulders dissolve,

Releasing any weight you may be carrying.

Feel your arms and hands relax fully.

Inhale,

Filling your chest with breath.

As you exhale,

Let the breath expand into your heart space.

Allow the breath to create more room for healing,

Compassion and softness.

Bring your attention to your abdomen,

Breathing in deeply,

Letting your belly rise.

As you exhale,

Soften your belly,

Letting it release,

Expanding with each breath.

Now gently move your awareness to your hips and pelvic area.

Take a moment to just observe without judgement.

Inhale,

Noticing how this part of your body feels.

Is there any tightness,

Discomfort or heaviness?

Just be with the sensations as they are,

Without needing to change anything.

With your next exhale,

Begin to release any tension or tightness in your hips.

Allow your breath to reach deep into your pelvic bowl,

Softening with every out-breath.

On your next inhale,

Visualize your breath as a warm,

Golden honey-like balm flowing down into your hips and pelvic area.

Feel this honey-like breath filling the space between your hips,

Coating your pelvic bones,

Muscles and joints with a soothing warmth.

As you exhale,

Feel any heaviness,

Discomfort or old emotions begin to melt away.

Release these feelings with each exhale.

Breathe in,

Filling your pelvis with this honey-balm,

Warming and softening everything it touches.

Feel it reaching into the muscles of your hips,

Into the deep tissues and ligaments.

Exhale,

Letting go of any tension or tightness held in this area.

Imagine the breath carrying away old energy,

Creating more space within your hips.

Now take a moment to explore the deeper parts of your pelvis.

With each inhale,

Let the breath travel into your lower back,

Feeling it expand and soften.

Inhale,

Sending the breath into your tailbone and the sacrum.

As you exhale,

Feel the breath soothe this area,

Releasing any tightness held here.

Move your attention toward your pelvic floor,

The muscles that support your entire lower body.

Inhale deeply,

Allowing the breath to reach into these muscles.

Feel them relax and open as you exhale.

Allow the breath to gently touch your ovaries or the space where your ovaries once were.

Your womb space or any other reproductive organs,

Bathing them in healing energy.

With each inhale,

Bring in softness and with each exhale,

Release any emotional or physical weight stored there.

This part of the body often holds trauma,

Emotional,

Physical or energetic.

As you continue to breathe,

Imagine the honey-like breath moving into the places where this trauma is stored.

Inhale deeply into any area of resistance or numbness.

Feel the breath working its way into every tight corner,

Loosening any stuck energy.

As you exhale,

Let these blocks dissolve,

Leaving the body.

Feel a sense of release,

Letting go of any past hurt,

Trauma or tension that has been stored here for too long.

Inhale,

Bringing in more light,

More love,

More healing energy into your hips.

Exhale,

Releasing and letting go.

Each breath brings more lightness,

More softness.

With each inhale,

Continue to invite healing into your hips and pelvis.

Feel the breath entering every muscle,

Joint and ligament in this area,

Soothing and healing as it flows.

With each exhale,

Feel yourself letting go of years of tension,

Pain or trauma that may have been stored here.

Allow the exhale to carry away old stories and energies,

Making room for new growth,

New freedom and a deeper connection with yourself.

Silently or aloud,

Repeat these affirmations as you continue to breathe deeply into your hips.

I release the trauma stored in my body.

I invite healing and sweetness into my hips and pelvis.

I am safe,

Whole and free.

Each inhale fills you with healing energy and each exhale deepens your sense of release.

Now let go of any control over your breath.

Allow it to flow naturally,

Sweetly and deeply into your body.

Feel the warmth of the breath still present in your hips and pelvis.

Softening and opening this area,

Expanding outward into your legs,

Feet,

Spine,

Arms and head.

Rest here for a few moments,

Basking in the sensation of openness and healing.

Begin to slowly bring your awareness back to the room and back to your physical body.

Open your breath once more,

Feeling the gentle rise and fall of your belly and chest.

Gently start to wiggle your fingers and toes,

Slowly reawakening your body.

When you are ready,

Softly open your eyes,

Taking a moment to notice how you feel.

Remember,

The healing energy of foshun and the breath is always available to you.

You can return to this practice whenever you need to release,

Heal and create space in your hips and pelvis.

Carry this lightness,

Openness and strength with you throughout your day.

It is your ability to heal and reconnect with your body,

Your spirit and roots.
