Hello and welcome,
I am Denzil and this New Year's meditation is about realigning with what matters.
But what many of us forget is that we need to first release the old.
This particular meditation is a beautiful visualization as we enter the New Year.
A visualization of a room,
Your room within your soul space.
A room that's not been aired for a while.
A room that's collected many memories and many events and many moments from the last year.
Some that need to be taken forward and some that need to be released and let go.
Let's begin this meditation with a little bit of grounding in breath work.
I want you to take a nice deep breath in,
Sit comfortably.
If you're sitting in a chair,
I request you to take your footwear off and keep your feet firmly planted and apart on the floor and just settle in and breathe in nice and deep.
There is nothing to fix,
Just to be and as you breathe in deep,
Begin to notice your breath,
Not changing it,
Just noticing it and how it moves for you,
Your life.
Breathe in nice and deep and as you exhale,
Allow your shoulders to soften,
Your jaw to loosen,
Your belly to rest,
Just breathing in nice and deep and being in this moment.
And now let's together enter that inner room,
That room that is you.
Let's together gently imagine an inner space,
A room that belongs only to you.
A room that holds the experiences of the past year,
The efforts,
The emotions,
The moments that have stayed with you through this year.
As you get accustomed to the room,
Notice the air in the room.
Perhaps it feels still,
Perhaps heavy,
Maybe it's simply quiet.
No judgment here,
Just awareness of the moment.
And now notice the windows,
Perhaps there's one,
Maybe there are several.
And as you enter the room,
Open a window or two and notice that the old particles of effort,
Outdated expectations,
Fears,
Guilt,
Anger are all there in the air.
Some of these no longer need to be carried forward.
You can name them if you wish,
Moments from the year that has gone by.
Don't push them away,
Just allow them to be.
And watch these old particles still in the air of this room,
Your inner room.
Take a deep breath in and as you breathe out,
Allow the dust to settle and drift away out through the open windows,
The dust of anger or the dust of hatred,
The dust of guilt,
The dust of fear,
It slowly drifts out of the window with each exhale as you breathe in nice and deep and you exhale.
The air knows what to take and it takes away whatever dust there is,
Not allowing the dust to settle but to drift away.
Without struggle,
Without effort,
Just let go.
You only want to carry forward what matters into the new year,
The rest,
Just let go.
And as you let go in your inner room,
You will notice fresh air begins to move through the space,
Cool,
Clean,
Unhurried.
Notice the gray has lifted,
Notice the light of the sun entering the room,
Soft,
Clear.
What no longer needs to travel with you can rest now.
I choose what matters.
As we sit in this room,
This inner room of ours,
Let's choose what matters.
Perhaps it's a sense of calm,
Perhaps a quiet strength,
Maybe discipline,
Maybe more love,
Maybe more awareness of the moment.
Maybe all of these matter.
The calm,
The strength,
The discipline,
The awareness.
Let all of these energies enter this room like fresh air,
Air that allows you to breathe better,
To be more aligned,
To be more aware.
Let the room arrange itself naturally,
No rearranging,
No fixing,
No effort,
Just allow.
Allow what's new to enter into your room.
Notice how this space feels now,
Lighter,
More open,
More sunlight,
More true.
And from this cleared space,
Allow one gentle intention to arise,
Not a goal,
Not something to pursue,
Just a quality that you wish to move with along the new year.
Maybe it's ease,
Or clarity,
Or patience,
Or trust,
Or kindness,
Or love towards yourself.
Let this new intention settle into the room like sunlight warming the flow.
Do you need to hold on to it tightly?
Not rarely,
It knows how to stay.
Soon it will become familiar with your room.
Know that this inner room is always available to you.
Anytime you feel overwhelmed,
Or frustrated,
Or angry,
Or sad,
Or maybe happy even,
Your inner room is always available to you.
Anytime you need to begin again,
Take one slow breath in,
And a longer,
Comfortable,
Slower breath out.
Remember whenever you need to reset,
Even during the new year,
You can return to this room.
Open the windows,
Sit down,
Breathe,
And be.
This is your inner space,
Your soul space.
And carry it with you,
With clarity,
Into the rest of your day,
And into the day to come.
May you travel in peace,
May you travel in joy,
May you travel with ease through this new year.
This is my wish for you.
Godspeed.
