Today's Considerations are short observations about who God is and who we are in God. These observations are meant to weaken, hopefully, our conscious (and unconscious) habits that separate us from God and bring to awareness our characteristics that keep us in alignment with God.

Today's Consideration.

Beware the arrogant act of giving but not receiving.

It is a fact that our gifts grow when we give them but when we refuse to receive from our fellow human we rob them of the opportunity to grow.

When we refuse to receive from our fellow human we curtail our own blessings.

How?

In refusing to receive we in our own flawed way try to dictate how God will come to us.

We assume that because someone has had to receive from us that we are doing them a favor by refusing to accept a gift back to us.

The gift could be advice,

A divine word,

A material item,

But we in our gentle arrogance say they cannot afford to give back to us so we will decline.

In truth we are doing them harm.

Who are we to rob someone of the opportunity to grow in God?

Who are we to determine whether they are worthy enough to reflect God back to us?

The Bible says that our blessing comes from giving meaning that we are givers and receivers.

We give and it is given back to us but if we refuse to receive how are we blessed?

Let us not fool ourselves into thinking that we know how God will deliver our blessing.

Let us not downplay the divinity in our fellow human.

In God's eyes we are all equal.

Is it not possible that God can deliver our blessing through the one we blessed?

Are they not also children of God?

So give and receive and rejoice with the one who is so eager to reflect God back to you.

May we all be so blessed.

Perfectly said! I learned this lesson when I was diagnosed with cancer. Up to that point, I had always been the giver in my community and congregation, and I am embarrassed to say that, in hindsight I see, I took some pride in this. When my diagnosis became known among others, of course they wanted to give back to me, and I had to learn to allow them to serve me in my time of need, for their own good as well as for my own. It was the beginning of a whole new kind of growth for me. In this message, you have done a wonderful job of describing this multi-faceted truth. Thank you for your thoughtful, inspired efforts to help others - me! - draw closer to Christ.

I never thought about it that way. My sister has always tried to help me accept her gifts. She always reminded me that it's part of the flow of life. Thank you for the wise words. I usually so easily give but I have a hard time accepting. Thank you! This helps a lot! ❤🙏🌸😊💢💥💫🌟✨
