Why You Should Never Swear

In modern times, swearing has become so mainstream that we even hear it on television, radio and see it on print media. It's so common that even Buddhist Venerables and Spiritual teachers use them to get their point across. Swearing though actually has no positives for us and is only a negative for spiritual development.

Swearing is something that has become so common and so mainstream that we even hear it on adverts It doesn't matter if those adverts are radio adverts TV adverts or paper adverts Actually swearing has become so mainstream that I've even heard one of the most famous Buddhist teachers in Australia and Southeast Asia swear in one of his talks Recently I even heard India's foremost Guruji swear in a talk that he was giving to university students Swearing generally tends to fall into two main categories for the reason of using swear words The first is using swear words to portray anger and unhappiness The second way of using a swear word is to help increase the emotion that one is trying to portray It does not matter if it's Buddhism or Hinduism both religions or philosophies have always taught that the single most destructive emotion on earth is the emotion of anger For it is anger that destroys relationships lives Families and can even drive people to commit murder when one uses swear words When they are unhappy or angry, All they're doing is adding more fuel to the fire they are turning the anger into a more powerful anger an Anger that in the end will be difficult to control It is therefore so important that when one is angry to not allow themselves To turn that anger into something more vicious It is therefore important never to use swearing when one is angry There is an old Buddhist saying that says Anger is like picking up a hot coal out of a fire and throwing it at the person you're unhappy with You only damage yourself the second way of using swear words Which is emotionally based is when one again is trying to portray a certain emotion to somebody in a more obvious and emotional manner This again is similar to anger where when you're using swear words when you're emotional You are adding more fuel to the emotion itself. No matter what the emotion is With that emotion can over time Turn into an absolute full-blown monster and cause you much pain and discomfort than what was ever needed This is why the ancient philosophies throughout the world always talk about speaking in a harmonious and balanced way For when you speak in a harmonious and balanced way, You would never need to use swear words to convey an emotion Which means that you yourself were balanced and in harmony if you speak in a balanced and harmonious way You also never throw away your internal balance Because you never let it get out of control Those of us who are on the spiritual path Therefore must always remind ourselves not to get into this current modern habit of swearing To portray anger and emotions and to make both this anger and emotions Build into something that is far worse than what it needs to be Therefore we must consistently remind ourselves to speak in a harmonious and balanced way and never use swear words

One reason I think my most recent experience with someone romantically didn’t work out was because I have the potty mouth of a sailor, and didn’t even realize it until I realized he didn’t swear at all.
