Hello my name is Sean,
Welcome to this short discussion on the top five must read spiritual books.
This list does not include classic texts such as the Dada Jig,
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali,
The Bhagavad Gita,
The Bible or the Quran.
Before I give you the top five list,
I think that it's important to have some honorable mentions.
The honorable mentions include the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle,
The Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda,
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne,
The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield,
The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho,
The Prophet by Khalil Gibran,
The Ant and the Ferrari by Dr.
Kerry Spackman,
Zen Mind,
Beginners Mind by Shunaru Suzuki and Buddha by Deepak Chopra.
So the top five lists that I am going to provide to you are the list of the books that had the most impact on me personally in my life and therefore something that I'd like to share with you.
It is my experience that finding a great book is like finding a needle in a haystack.
You might find one every five years,
You might find one every 10 years,
You might even find only one every 20 years.
But when we do find such great books,
I have always found that it's important to let others know so that the knowledge and wisdom contained in them can also be passed on.
So this list is not in any particular order.
The first one is The Outer Living by Thich Nhat Hanh.
As somebody who had done a graduate diploma of Buddhist studies,
It is quite common to get the question of which book do you recommend for the early studies or understanding of Buddhism.
There are many great Buddhist books out there but a lot of them tend to be very academic or they are either very specific to one school of Buddhist thought.
This book,
The Outer Living,
Is one that incorporates many different schools of thought such as Zen,
Theravada,
Mahayana,
And it is a great read where you will gain plenty of insight and many ways to rethink the way you see the world and life itself.
The second on the top five list is Inner Engineering,
A Yogi's Guide to Joy by Sadguru.
This book has some unusual meditation techniques in it but it allows one to see a different way of being a yogi than what is normally taught,
Which is yoga in terms of just doing asanas.
This is an overall comprehensive system of breathing,
Meditation,
Health,
Eating,
How to sit properly,
Lifestyle changes,
How you fast,
And many other aspects that come with a.
