Hello, and welcome to Methods, an exploration in guided prayer and meditation. This is a visualization practice on the spiritual quality of joy led by Kevin Johnson. Being willing to rest, to stop seeking is a simple process but it is not necessarily easy. And our culture and the popular mindset can often misguide us. How to simply learn to trust and be open to a deepening silence?

Let's head back to our sacred space from our last visits.

There's much more to be seen.

Take a seat next to the fire.

Sit in a relaxed way,

With back comfortably straight,

Eyes open,

Gazing slightly downward.

Having identified both kinds of benefactors,

Ones from ordinary life and spiritual benefactors from near or far,

Bring one or more of each to mind and imagine their smiling faces before you.

Envision them sending you the wish of love,

That simple wish for your deepest well-being happiness and joy.

Sensing these wonderful people before you,

Gently open to their wish of love.

Imagine their wish as a gentle radiance,

Like a soft shower of healing rays.

Save your whole body and mind in that tender radiance,

All the way down to your toes and fingertips.

Bask in the loving energy of that wish.

Trust it.

You don't have to trust every aspect of each benefactor.

Just recall the wish of love that they radiate,

The simple wish for your well-being and happiness.

Receive the gentle healing energy of that radiance.

As other thoughts or feelings arise,

Let them be enveloped in this loving luminosity.

No matter who you think you are,

What you think you deserve,

All such thoughts are irrelevant to you.

Just accept the benefactor's wish of love for your deepest happiness.

Trust in this wish more than any limiting thoughts of yourself.

Receive it into your whole being.

Let yourself rely upon this love,

The goodness it comes from and the goodness it needs in your heart.

To rely upon this love more than anything else is to find rest.

If your mind begins to wander,

Look at the face of one of your benefactors.

See them smiling at you.

Hear them say,

I only want you to be happy.

I profoundly wish for you all joy and well-being.

You are loved.

Receive that wish as rays of light touching every part of your body.

Be at ease,

Open and accepting like a puppy lying in the morning sun passively soaking up the rays.

Absorb the soft healing energy of love into every cell of your body,

Every corner of your mind.

Breathe in this,

Heal in this,

Rest in this.

Breathe in this,

Heal in this.

Breathe in this,

Heal in this.

After a little while,

Join your benefactors in their wish for you.

While receiving the radiance of their love,

Mentally repeat the wish for yourself using words like this.

Leave this one here,

Of deepest well-being,

Happiness and joy.

Affirm the words repeatedly in your mind.

Try to mean them as you say them,

Just as your benefactors mean them for you.

Recall that your benefactors are real people who truly gave you love and still do.

Try to mean the words as you say them,

Just as the benefactors mean them.

Like everyone else in this world,

You most deeply need and deserve happiness and well-being.

Repeat the wish for yourself while accepting your benefactors love even more deeply into your body and mind.

Finally,

Let go into utter oneness with the radiance,

Dropping the visualization of benefactors and releasing any attempt to hold on to any frame of reference.

Deeply let be,

Like the last time we were here by the fire.

Let be into that gentle luminous wholeness,

Enjoy just being for a little while,

At ease,

At rest,

Complete.
