OK,
It's time to get comfortable.
You can sit up or you can lie down or you can be in whatever position feels natural.
And when you're ready,
Just gently close your eyes.
Before we begin.
Let go of any idea you have about what meditation is supposed to be.
This isn't about forcing your mind to be quiet.
This isn't about pretending your body isn't there.
It's not about trying to make yourself feel spiritual.
This meditation is about noticing where your experience is actually happening.
For the next few minutes,
We're going to step away from the grip of the physical world.
The body,
The thoughts,
And the stories we carry.
We're going to do this not by denying them.
And not by fighting them.
But by noticing that all of it is being experienced within consciousness.
Now begin to notice your body.
Notice where your body is being supported.
You may feel pressure,
Warmth,
Or you may feel some discomfort.
You don't have to try to change it right away.
Just notice the sensation before your mind turns it into a story.
Now your mind may say,
I'm uncomfortable.
And that may be a very true experience.
But look at it a little closer.
Before the word uncomfortable.
There's a sensation.
Before the story,
There's a sensation.
And that sensation is being experienced in consciousness.
The body may be sending a signal.
And the mind may be translating it.
But the experience itself is happening in awareness.
Now notice your breathing.
You don't have to control it.
Just notice that the breathing is happening.
The body is breathing,
And you are just aware of it.
In fact,
Even the breath is being experienced in consciousness.
Now bring your attention to the music.
Don't analyze it.
Don't decide whether you like it or don't like it,
Just notice the experience of hearing it.
The music is being heard.
Ask yourself,
Where's the sound being experienced?
Not where the music is coming from.
Not where are the headphones.
Where is the actual experience of hearing happening?
It's happening in consciousness.
Now let's sit here for a moment and notice if a thought comes in.
You don't have to stop a thought,
Let it happen.
You don't have to stop it like I said,
And you don't have to chase it,
And you don't have to fix it.
Just notice it as a thought appearing in consciousness.
The thought may feel important.
That may try to pull you back into your day.
Your body.
Back into your worries.
But for this moment,
You don't have to follow that thought.
Just simply notice it.
The thought is here.
And something is aware of it.
Rest there for a moment.
The discomfort shows up in the body.
Don't find it.
Don't,
Don't try to deny it.
The discomfort may be as real as an experience,
But notice how it is being experienced.
It's a sensation being translated by the mind.
It is simply awareness noticing the body.
Now it doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong.
Simply means something is being experienced within consciousness.
Let the body be here without making it the center of everything.
Let the music be here without needing to follow it.
Let these thoughts pass through without needing to become them.
You are letting go of the grip of here for just a little while.
The body is still here.
And the room is still here,
And the music is still here.
But,
There is also the awareness noticing all of it.
That awareness is the part of you we are resting in now.
The consciousness that is noticing the experience.
If your mind is wandering,
That's okay.
Just notice that wandering.
That's also happening in consciousness.
Now return,
Return to awareness.
Just return to the part of you that is observing.
You do not have to make anything happen.
And you don't have to become anything.
You don't have to force peace.
Just notice everything around you.
They're just sensations within consciousness.
Bring your mind back.
Everything you are experiencing is happening within consciousness.
And once you see that,
Even for a moment,
The body,
The thoughts,
The discomfort,
And the world around you can begin to kind of loosen their grip on you.
Everything you are experiencing is happening within consciousness.
Just sit here and observe.
You don't have to become anything.
I want you to take as long as you need in this space and as long as you want to be here.
The music will fade out on its own.
And you can stay here as long as you would like.
Within your consciousness.
