RIPENING IN A SUNLIT GARDEN MEDITATION This meditation was inspired by my mother's garden.
Whenever I go there,
I learn a lot from the way things grow and ripen.
Worries meet the loving green hands of wisdom.
And by being in the presence of these flowering and fruiting bodies soaking up the sun,
I am brought back to what's important.
So I wove this meditation to bring you into the tending embrace of a sunlit garden.
I recommend listening to this while sitting in an outdoor space,
But if you don't have access to that,
It will still be a beautiful experience wherever you are.
Enjoy.
You can begin by taking a comfortable seat and closing your eyes if you wish.
Start bringing yourself into the space by taking the most plump and full breaths you have taken in your day,
Your week,
Even your month.
Allow these breaths to round out inside your body.
Reacquaint yourself with this most simple,
Precious act.
Notice the stillness beginning to seep through your mind and body with every breath,
As if channels of groundwater are starting to release and move through the earth.
Allow the stillness to begin soaking through your entire being,
As if dry,
Cracked and eroded soils were receiving a delicious spout of rain.
Feel this rain washing away any worries that have been smudging your vision and connection to this present moment,
To the fullness of your aliveness,
To the fullness of your breath.
Feel the relief these deepening breaths bring.
The rain is stopping and the clouds are dissolving now,
Just as the thoughts and worries are dissolving into the clear blue sky of your mind.
The sun is starting to show again and bathe the air with its warm golden light.
Now,
I'd like you to begin imagining that you are in a sunlit garden,
Hanging on the vine like your favorite fruit or vegetable.
Imagine being this plant body,
Doing nothing other than ripening.
Surrender your entire body to gravity like this plump fruit.
Allow your jaw to hang down,
All the tiny muscles on your face to hang down,
Your shoulders to hang down,
Your arms to hang down,
Just hanging on the vine,
Deepening in presence.
Dangle down your entire torso,
Legs and feet,
As if your only job right now was to ripen through stillness and develop your rich well of color.
You can feel the soothing hums of bees around you,
Greeting you with curiosity.
You can feel the gentle coolness of the air kissing your skin.
You can feel any remaining sourness or bitterness in your heart,
Turning sweeter and sweeter by the sun's warm loving rays.
Take a deep breath and let out an audible sigh,
Allowing you to droop on the vine even more,
Surrendering all your worries and unfinished to-do's to the earth.
Feel its reliability,
The firmness of the ground holding you up,
As if it was saying,
I'm always here for you.
I'm always here to support you.
You are supported,
You are held,
You are safe.
Take a moment and lean into the support of the earth underneath your feet.
Allow yourself to just hang there,
Sweetly and simply,
Familiarizing yourself with how good it feels to be back home,
In your body,
In this moment,
Just ripening and drinking up sunlight.
Allow the sunlit stillness to render whatever is rigid and bitter into soft,
Juicy,
And fleshy beauty,
Like the rich jewel-toned fruit gleaming in the garden.
Feel your heart blooming open as well,
Sending its fragrance throughout your body.
Gently envelop any parts that feel edgy or neglected with your loving awareness,
As if you were the caretaker of your own garden.
Savor these sun-drenched moments for a little while longer now.
Take your time,
As all the delights we so treasure in a garden need time to transform.
You are ripening beautifully.
Allow every cell in your body to drink up this light,
Absorbing its nourishing energy that will sustain your growth for days to come.
Take a moment to cherish this process of becoming.
As we begin to wrap up this meditation,
Take one more deep breath to bless your body.
Wiggle your toes and bring yourself back into your room,
Giving yourself some hearty acknowledgement for showing up to care for yourself today.
Thank you so much for listening and spending this short and sweet time with me in this garden,
Which is always there for you whenever you need.
I'll see you next time,
And until then,
Wishing you a beautiful day ahead.
