Hi there.

How are you today?

My name is Dana Demara.

Welcome to Insight Timer.

I'm going to lead you through a meditation today that will support you in cultivating creativity.

So I feel like sometimes I lose myself in my thoughts and I potentially ruminate and overthink things and think about all these details or the should haves or the would haves or the could haves that I lose my sense of creativity.

And I want to share this exercise with you that has supported me for so long.

I promise you it will work.

And just beginning to open up those sides of your brain that actually support creativity as opposed to thinking,

Thinking,

Thinking all the time.

Here's the deal though.

The reality is that we have about 90,

000 thoughts a day and we take a minimum of 21,

000 breaths.

So we have so many more thoughts than breath.

And we also breathe very unevenly through our nostrils.

So we may breathe very much into the right nostril,

Which means that the left side brain is being activated too much or in the opposite.

So we don't pay a lot of attention to our breath.

And so in this meditation today,

I'm going to give you a specific breath work instruction also with some visualizations.

Okay?

So go ahead and ready your space.

Find a comfortable seat.

Close the eyes and take a few deep breaths into the nose and out through the mouth.

Once you've taken those few cleansing breaths,

Allow yourself a piece of being still.

And don't try to get rid of the thoughts in your mind.

It's okay.

They're going to be there.

Times in meditation,

We think we have to free the mind and then we work so hard to free the mind.

Don't try to do that.

Just almost like allow the thoughts to ticker tape.

But don't follow them.

Just let them kind of float by.

Begin to let the breath get louder than the thoughts.

So that little itty bitty snore we call it would jay breath,

That little snore at the back of the throat begins to drown out the thoughts so you can't follow them anymore.

You start to notice maybe even your hands start to loosen their grip,

That furrowed brow begins to relax.

Maybe you even lean back a little bit as if you were leaning into someone behind you.

And this is where we will begin with this specific pranayama.

So I want you to take your right index finger and block off your right nostril and inhale through your left nostril.

I want you to hold for a moment and block off your left nostril.

You can use the same finger and breathe out through the right.

Inhale through the left and out through the right.

Inhale through the left nostril,

Out through the right.

Inhale through the left,

Out through the right.

I'll walk you through a few more.

In through the left,

Out through the right.

Inhale through the left,

Out through the right,

In through the left,

Out through the right.

Now keep following that pattern,

Breathing in through the left to support an awakening in the right side brain and out through the right to quiet the left side brain.

And just keep doing that.

Sometimes I do this multiple times a day when I feel stagnant in my creativity.

And keep going to stay with this process for another bit of time.

I'll let you know when.

Just keep going.

Activating those bits of the brain that sometimes we forget about because we're too busy thinking.

Make those breaths through the left nostril even a little bit longer.

So make those inhalations expand as if you were actually trying to fill up that whole right side of the brain.

And when you exhale,

Make sure you just exhale completely so there's no breath left.

I'll do this for another little bit.

Just stay with the process.

We'll take two more rounds on each side.

So just allow yourself to do this two more times on each side completely.

And after you've taken that second inhalation on the left side and that second exhalation through the right,

Go ahead and just bring your hands into your lap.

And without opening the eyes,

Just find that gentle Ujjayi breath now.

And the silence just say a little prayer,

A little pause for creativity,

For grace,

For a deep connection to God,

To source,

To the divine.

May you be filled with deep inspiration and creativity today.

Take another big deep breath in,

Hold the breath.

And then exhale all of your breath out through your mouth.

Feel free to flutter the eyes open,

Giving deep thanks and gratitude for you today for taking this moment in time for yourself.

I hope you have a beautifully,

Beautifully blessed day.

Namaste.
