Hello,
I am Cintha Gonzalez.
I am here to lead you in the practice of the Four Directions.
It is suggested to practice this in front of an altar you may have,
Or outside.
The Four Directions are honored in many indigenous cultures,
Including the Celtic,
Aboriginal,
And Native American traditions.
This can be practiced going around in the Four Directions four times or less.
The number four corresponds to rootedness,
Containment,
And giving form to creative and spiritual inspirations.
It also rules the sacred geometric shape of the square.
Let's begin.
Begin by facing East.
You may have your eyes open or closed as you wish.
Stand tall,
Aligned,
With the arms alongside and the hands facing open in a receptive posture.
Feel your feet on the floor or ground.
Feel a sense of rootedness,
Groundedness.
Breathe long and deep three times through your nose.
Inhaling,
Exhaling.
When we breathe through the nose,
We enhance an internalization of the breathing process.
Breathing in again,
Exhaling.
And one more time,
Inhaling and exhaling.
Open and allow the medicine of the East to infuse your being.
Trust the inner stirrings,
The feelings,
And any ahas that arise as you stand in the East direction.
Invoke the following themes that correspond to the East and observe if there is any personal resonance with these archetypes.
The East,
Youth,
Rebirth,
Spring,
Dawn,
Naivete,
Beginning,
Daring to answer and commit to the call,
Renewal,
Hope.
Receive the medicine of the East.
Allow it in.
Reflect if any of these listed themes of the East have meaning for you.
Turn to the right and face south.
Stand tall,
Aligned with the arms alongside and the hands facing open in a receptive posture.
Breathe long and deep one time.
Inhaling,
Exhaling.
Open and allow the medicine of the South to infuse your being.
Trust the inner stirrings,
The feelings,
And any ahas that arise as you stand in the South direction.
Invoke the following themes that correspond to the South and observe if there is any personal resonance with these archetypes.
The South,
Adulthood,
Prosperity,
Summer,
High noon,
Experience,
Creative flow,
Flourishing activity,
Dynamism,
Confidence.
Receive the medicine of the South.
Reflect if any of the listed themes of the South have meaning for you.
Turn to the right and face west.
Stand tall,
Aligned with the arms alongside and the hands facing open in a receptive posture.
Breathe long and deep one time as you face the west.
Breathing in and exhaling.
Open and allow the medicine of the West to infuse your being.
Trust the inner stirrings,
The feelings,
And any ahas that arise as you stand in the West direction.
Invoke the following themes that correspond to the West and observe if there is any personal resonance with these archetypes.
The West,
Elder,
Wisdom,
Death,
Autumn,
Sunset,
Mastery,
Harvest,
Retirement,
Letting go,
Irrevocable endings,
Goodbye,
Grief.
Receive the medicine of the West.
Reflect if any of the listed themes of the West have meaning for you.
Now turn to the right and face north.
Stand tall,
Aligned with the arms alongside and the hands facing open in a receptive posture.
Breathe long and deep one time as you face north.
Exhaling,
Open and allow the medicine of the North to infuse your being.
Trust the inner stirrings,
The feelings,
And any ahas that arise as you stand in the North direction.
Invoke the following themes that correspond to the North and observe if there is any personal resonance with these archetypes.
The North,
After death,
Before rebirth,
Transition,
Winter,
The darkest of the night,
Hibernation,
Gestation,
Waiting,
Limbo,
The unknown,
Patience,
Trust.
Receive the medicine of the North,
Reflect if any of the listed themes of the North have meaning for you.
Now take a deep breath.
If your eyes are closed,
Gently open them,
Slowly return.
You may repeat this one,
Two,
Or three more times.
And as you finish,
You may be inspired to move to something integrative,
Writing in your journal any impressions or noting down your experience.
You may practice a sitting meditation.
And while you do that,
You may want to face the direction whose medicine would best serve you currently.
You may want to practice walking meditation.
You may want to simply rest.
Thank you.
