What follows is a recording of a Wiccan ritual in celebration of the first harvest.
You are invited to adapt any part of this as you see fit,
So that it will align more fully with your personal spiritual path.
Gathered are we to celebrate Ludnasa,
The Sabbath of Lamas,
And the First Harvest.
Be it known that the circle is about to be cast.
Let none be here but of their own free will.
We come together now as a community,
One with another.
To share our joy of life and to reaffirm our feelings for the gods.
The Lord and Lady have been good to us.
It is meet that we thank them for all that we have.
Here at last,
Our circle is cast,
With light upon the ground.
We call upon the elements to guide our magic all around.
God and Goddess,
Bless us and our right to guide us and give to all insight.
I call you now,
Attend to me.
This is my will,
So mote it be.
All hail the Element of Air,
Watchtower of the East.
May you bring the breath of life and inspiration to this circle.
Hail and welcome.
All hail the Element of Fire,
Watchtower of the South.
May you bring warmth and power to this circle.
Hail and welcome.
All hail the element of water,
Watchtower of the West.
May you bring purification and renewal to this circle.
Heal and welcome.
All hail the Element of Earth,
Watchtower of the North.
May you bring balance and wisdom to this circle.
Hail and welcome.
All hail the fair spirits and elementals of this land,
And our beloved ancestors.
We ask that you attend our circle and bless our rites.
Hail and welcome.
Mother Moon,
Provider of life itself.
Protector of the Wicca.
We ask that you will attend our circle and bless our rites.
Hail and welcome.
Father,
Son,
Lord of all that's wild and free.
We ask that you attend our circle and bless our rites.
Hail and welcome.
Enter we now a place that is void of space and time,
A gateway between the worlds.
Hand to hand,
With none being last,
As we welcome the first harvest,
The circle is cast.
The circle is now hallowed.
Behold,
The first harvest is upon us.
Nature has once again brought forth an abundance.
One which we receive with gratitude and joy.
Upon the fields are now the first gifts of the God and Goddess.
All hail!
With this being the first harvest,
We can feel an even stronger connection to the earth and the crops.
And while we look forward to the days becoming somewhat cooler.
We recognize that nothing would be on our dinner table without the energy of the sun.
Behold,
We now see the sun starting to fade,
Ever so slowly,
Before the dark half of the year begins.
This is a time of harvesting corn and grains.
Harvesting grains and baking bread were of critical importance to our ancestors at this time.
So we honor them and the season by also baking bread and giving thanks for the abundance in our lives As we prepare to enter the dark half of the year,
So too does the sun begin its descent.
The mighty Lord,
Who was born at Yule,
Declined slowly now.
Only to be reborn once again at Yule.
And as the great wheel continues to turn,
The fields will soon go dormant and become barren.
The seeds that fall at this time are the seeds we will plant in the coming spring.
And life will begin anew once again.
Such is the unending cycle of birth,
Life,
Death and rebirth.
A cycle with no ending and no beginning.
On this day the fields and our tables are richly laden.
We call upon the spirits and elementals of this land and ask for their blessing as we prepare to share this harvest feast together.
And we give thanks to the Great Lord and the Great Lady of the Witches for the abundance that is set before us.
All hail!
May we take fairly,
And may we give freely.
As we celebrate and give thanks for nature's bounty,
Our collective working at this time is to send forth healing energy to all forms of life,
In every place,
That none may ever know hunger or thirst.
Great as their need.
Great also is our will.
Here do we now empower this intention with the collective energy raised within this sacred space,
Sending it forth throughout the world,
That all may have food and drink,
And have such in great abundance,
So that they might also be able to share with others.
This is our will.
So mote it be.
We came together in love and friendship.
Let us part the same way.
Let us spread the love we have known in this circle outward to all,
Sharing it with those we meet.
Element of Earth,
I thank you for your presence in this circle and witnessing these rites.
Hail and farewell.
Element of Water,
I thank you for your presence in this circle and witnessing these rites.
Heal and farewell.
Element of Fire,
I thank you for your presence in this circle and witnessing these rites.
Hail and farewell.
Element of Air,
I thank you for your presence in this circle and witnessing these rites.
Hail and farewell.
Fairest spirits and elementals of this land,
And our beloved ancestors.
I thank you for your presence in this circle and witnessing these rites.
Hail,
And farewell.
Guardians of the Elements,
Lord God and Lady Goddess.
We thank you for joining our circle.
We ask your blessing as you depart.
May there be peace between us now and forever.
I cast this circle out into the cosmos as a sign of my magic.
The circle is open,
But unbroken.
Mary did we meet.
Mary Dewey Park.
And Mary will we meet again.
Blessed Be.
