Are you ready to meditate with Kari?
Get all snuggly and comfortable in your bed so that you can relax your body,
Let go of your busy day,
And hopefully fall fast asleep feeling very happy and safe and secure.
Heidi,
Cherry and Veya had had a sleepover at Ellie's house.
Ellie and Aurea,
Jasmine,
Taj and Zoe had all slept over along with the cats.
They'd been discussing,
Late in bed that morning,
What they were going to do for breakfast.
They'd decided pancakes.
Cherry was walking down the stairs and everyone else was following.
Cherry had decided she needed to sing the pancake song.
We're making pancakes,
We're making pancakes,
Pancakes,
Pancakes,
We're making pancakes,
Pancakes,
Pancakes.
That was basically it,
But she thought it was awesome.
She tried to get everyone else to sing along with her,
But she was just going all over the place and it didn't really have any consistent rhythm,
So it just sounded terrible.
Everybody was basically saying,
We're making pancakes,
Pancakes,
We're making pancakes,
Oh yeah,
We're making pancakes.
When they got in the kitchen,
Ellie got out all the bowls,
Spoons,
The pack of pancake mix.
Cherry said,
OMG,
You know,
I can't remember the last time I had pancakes.
I'm so excited,
I really love pancakes.
I mean,
Oh,
Question though,
Question.
Are we making American pancakes or are we making English pancakes?
Because they're very different,
Aren't they,
Heidi?
Heidi said,
Yes,
They are very different.
Actually,
In America,
We call English pancakes crepes.
But I think crepes are actually French.
Anyway,
English pancakes are normally big and thin.
You can kind of roll those pancakes out and put things inside of them or on top of them.
Whereas American pancakes are smaller,
But thicker and fluffier.
More like a cakey kind of consistency versus like a very thin,
Rubbery crepe kind of consistency.
Oh,
This is really technical,
Heidi said.
Jasmine and Taj basically said that they would like any pancakes.
And Zoe said she preferred American pancakes.
She likes the fluffy ones that you can eat with butter and maple syrup.
Vea said that she liked the fluffy ones that you can eat with maple syrup,
As maple syrup is one of her favorite things in the entire world.
Oh,
It's just so nice.
The smell,
Love how sweet it is.
It always tastes so good.
I love maple syrup.
I like maple syrup versus pancake syrup.
Because sometimes,
Some pancake syrups aren't that good.
But maple syrup,
Like real maple syrup,
Cherry said.
OMG,
Yeah,
It has to be real maple syrup.
Because,
You know,
Sometimes those are the ones.
.
.
What do they have in it now that's not supposed to be really good for you?
Er.
.
.
Corn.
Corn powder.
No,
No,
Not corn powder.
Corn.
.
.
Er.
.
.
Corn.
.
.
Heidi said corn syrup.
Yes!
Corn syrup.
Corn syrup's supposed to be really bad for you,
You know.
Apparently,
It's in,
Like,
Absolutely everything.
And it's not good for your body.
It makes you feel like you're having something sweet,
Right,
But you don't have something sweet because it's like.
.
.
Er.
.
.
Is it not that sweet?
Oh,
Gosh,
Can't remember.
Heidi said,
I think it's because it's made with,
Like,
GMO products and that's not very good for you.
OMG,
GMO!
Wait a minute.
G-M-O-O-M-G.
There's something similar there,
Isn't there?
HEAVY BREATHING Anyway,
Yeah,
What's GMO?
Heidi said GMO is genetically modified organisms,
I think.
Something like that.
OMG,
Said Cherry.
WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT,
HEIDI?
I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.
DOES ANYBODY ELSE KNOW WHAT HEIDI'S TALKING ABOUT?
Zoe said.
Yeah,
My mum tries to buy organic things because sometimes GMO things,
Like,
Basically put chemicals on the food so that it grows cheaper and they can grow more and it doesn't cost as much and they don't lose as much to insects and things like that.
But they put,
Like,
Insect repellent on the food and then that food is grown with insect repellent on it and then that insect repellent can be really bad for humans.
But they use it because they can mass-produce food and make it cheaper and then,
Therefore,
I don't think they really care.
Well said,
Said Heidi.
Something like that,
Cherry.
Cherry said.
Wow,
They put chemicals on food!
Heidi said.
Yes,
They're called pesticides.
OMG,
That's pretty darn gross.
Pesticides.
Pesticides are basically what kill pests,
Right?
You know,
Like rat poisoning or like insect poisoning or stuff like that.
Heidi said.
Yes,
That's right.
That's what pesticides are.
Well,
Ugh,
That's pretty darn gross.
I'm not surprised we're supposed to not eat corn syrup.
I bet corn syrup is grown because it's cheaper than normal sugar and they can just,
Like,
Mass-produce it.
And,
But,
Unfortunately,
It's in everything and,
Unfortunately,
It's grown with pesticides and,
Unfortunately,
Pesticides aren't good for human beings and,
Unfortunately,
There's that much that we don't even notice.
You know what?
Are we supposed to just be growing our own sugar plants or something?
Is that what we're supposed to do?
Heidi started laughing and said,
That would probably be very difficult.
Faye said,
How about we just stick to real maple syrup?
Good idea,
Said Cherry.
Absolutely great idea.
Right,
So what we're doing with these pancakes,
Guys?
Jasmine,
Zoe,
Aria,
Ellie,
Taj.
Come on,
Guys.
You guys are supposed to be,
Like,
Expert pancake makers,
Right?
Because you were saying upstairs that you guys can make pancakes.
Taj said he liked to make pancakes in the shape of Mickey Mouse ears.
Zoe said she liked to make pancakes in the shape of cactuses.
And Jasmine and Ellie and Aria said that they could make pancakes in the shape of Christmas trees.
Cherry was very excited.
These are no ordinary pancakes,
Guys.
These are going to be non-GMO,
Non-pesticide,
Non-corn syrup,
Blooming awesome pancakes that are organically good for us because we're just using real maple syrup.
We're not using pancake syrup that has that horrible corn syrup in it.
We're using maple syrup.
Maple syrup is,
Like,
The bestest.
It's the most healthiest.
And it's,
Like,
Just basically comes out of a tree,
Right?
I think.
Heidi said,
Yeah,
It basically comes out of a tree.
They tap,
Like,
A hole in the maple tree,
And then they drain the syrup that comes out of it,
And they collect it,
And that's the maple syrup.
Well,
OMG,
By golly gosh,
How blooming organic is that?
That's,
Like,
The most organic food I could even think of,
Except probably,
Like,
Growing your own lettuce because I really do like to grow my own vegetables.
But I'm not very good at it because you know what happens?
It gets eaten all the time.
The last time,
Do you remember the last time we grew lettuce,
Right,
Last year,
Last summer,
We had,
Like,
A little plot on the back garden,
And Mum grew tomatoes,
And she grew lettuce,
And she grew cucumbers,
And she grew different,
Like,
Herbs,
Like cilantro and parsley and mint,
And I forgot all the others.
But,
Yeah,
She grew all these different things,
Right,
And the lettuce was getting so yummy looking and so big.
And then we'd go out there,
And it'd be gone.
Like,
Where's the lettuce?
And I don't know where we were eating the lettuce.
I don't know whether it was,
Like,
The birds or the rabbits or the squirrels or maybe the slugs.
Mum said it could have been anything,
But something was eating our organic lettuce like no tomorrow.
And,
Oh,
No,
You never guess what.
I just realised that's why the farmers use pesticides because if they put pesticides on them,
The squirrels,
The slugs,
The birds,
The whatever it is,
The rabbits,
Don't eat the lettuce because they don't want to because it's got pesticides on it.
But then if you think about it,
Right,
That's pretty darn gross that the animals wouldn't eat the lettuce,
But yet we're supposed to eat the lettuce.
Well,
You know,
Humans or whoever buys it,
That is,
Because Mum buys lettuce sometimes,
Because all the animals in the garden eat our lettuce when we try to grow it.
Anyway,
Yeah,
So I see the point.
But,
I mean,
Isn't there a better way?
I mean,
You know what we could do?
We could maybe put,
Like,
A net around the lettuce the next time we grow lettuce,
Right?
Organic lettuce from the garden,
Absolutely delicious.
No pesticides on it,
But to grow it in a cage because everything was trying to eat it all the time.
But,
I mean,
That would maybe help,
Zoe said.
But what about the slugs?
The slugs can go through a cage.
Oh,
Darn it,
Said Cherry.
Absolutely correct.
Maybe I've heard right that if you put,
Like,
Coffee grounds around your vegetables,
Maybe certain insects don't like coffee because,
You know,
That caffeine,
It can get to your content and give you the jitters.
Maybe the slugs get all,
Like,
Caffeinated on it and they're like,
Oh,
Gosh,
I feel really anxious.
Oh,
I'm so on edge.
Oh,
My gosh,
I'm so buzzed.
I'm buzzing from the coffee.
Maybe the coffee can deter the slugs.
So,
That's it.
So,
We need cages,
We need coffee.
What else can we do?
Oh,
I've also heard right that copper,
I don't know where you get this from,
Maybe you get this from,
Like,
Home Depot or,
Like,
You know,
A garden centre or some kind of fix-it place.
There,
You can put,
Like,
Pieces of copper around your garden and the slugs don't like copper.
But that would probably be very expensive because copper's not that cheap.
How could you fill a whole garden or even a whole farmer's field?
Copper.
You couldn't.
And what about those people that come and take your copper and sell it because it's expensive?
Then you've got no copper on your fields.
Then the slugs are going to go absolutely berserk,
Like,
Party,
Party,
Because they're eating all the organic lettuce.
Oh,
I'm confused now.
Why are we even talking about lettuce?
I thought we were talking about pancakes.
No,
That's why we were talking about lettuce.
I'm going to make a pancake in the shape of a lettuce.
Right,
Who's first?
Ellie went first.
And then Aria,
And then Jasmine,
And then Taj,
And then Zoe,
And then Veya,
And then Heidi,
And then Cherry went last.
Cherry basically did,
Like,
A wobbly circle on the pan with the pancake batter.
A wobbly circle that was,
Like,
A circle that didn't have a perfect circle shape,
That was,
Like,
A circle that was round,
That had,
Like,
A very irregular outside circle.
So basically she made a circle that was just messy.
But she said it was lettuce.
Everyone agreed that it was probably not the best.
But ten out of ten for the attempts,
Cherry.
The best pancakes were the ones that were shaped like Christmas trees.
They looked just like Christmas trees.
And then,
When everybody had done with all the shapes and all the pancakes that they were making,
There were at least,
Like,
30 pancakes that they'd made by the time that they were done.
But there were quite a few of them.
And maybe they could all eat round about,
Like,
Four,
Maybe five pancakes each.
So they figured out that they needed to make more pancakes.
They had a lot of fun making pancakes.
Some of them just had butter.
Some of them had them just dry because they were sweet,
Because the mix was so good anyway,
And it had vanilla in it.
Some of them put maple syrup on.
Some of them,
Heidi being one of them,
Put raspberry jam on hers,
And it was delicious.
They ended up going for American Fluffy Pancakes because when they tried to make the shapes with the crepe mixture,
The crepe mixture was way too runny.
Hence,
They figured out that's what it needs to be like to make the thin crepes that you can roll up a cigar.
But they're not very good to make shapes with because it just falls and spreads and rolls all over the pan and doesn't keep any kind of shape.
You need a thicker batter that's going to make a fluffy American pancake.
That worked so much better.
After breakfast,
They all got ready and they went out for a hike.
They walked off all of their pancakes,
All of the sugar.
They were full of energy because of all the carbohydrates.
And they had a really good hike.
And then that afternoon,
Kids went home.
Everybody said goodbye to Ellie and Aria.
The cats went home.
The cats decided that it was nice to be home.
They were going to take a nap on their big,
Soft,
Comfortable cat bed.
They settled down and snuggled in to each other.
They talked about the night.
And then they talked about the morning.
Their hike.
And eventually,
Three sleepy cats fell fast asleep and had the bestest dreams.
The end.
