Transcript

As we begin our meditation or presencing practice on the commitment to excel in your genius,

We want to begin as we always do by simply getting here now.

And a great way to do this is beginning by just simply taking a couple of deep breaths down and into your belly.

Think about softening your belly a little bit,

Really relaxing and then very gently filling it all the way full.

And on your exhale,

Have the intention to really complete the exhale.

So let yourself breathe all the way out,

Almost like you're squeezing a sponge.

And do that two more times.

Nice,

Slow,

Gentle inhale.

Softening the belly.

And then a full exhale,

Where you really allow yourself to complete the exhale.

And one more time,

A gentle inhale.

Softening the belly.

And exhaling,

All the way out to completion.

The breath is always an invitation to be here now.

As are the senses.

So in this moment,

Just notice.

Notice what is being experienced through the senses.

Begin with what's being heard.

And all you're doing is noticing sounds.

With no need to resist them or even judge them.

You don't even need to label them.

You can just have a direct experience of sound.

And then notice what is being perceived,

What images are arising in and on consciousness.

Even if your eyes are closed,

There are images or pictures that are arising.

If your eyes are open,

You're noticing the surroundings.

And again,

Just simply allow what is being experienced to be here.

The mind wants to judge or evaluate,

Compare or interpret.

Just let the mind relax as best you can,

So that you're just simply experiencing your experience.

And then notice sensations that are occurring on or in the body.

Again,

Simply from the place of observing or witnessing.

And again,

There's no need to even label it with any other word than maybe sensation.

And see if as best you can,

You could just allow whatever sensations are being experienced.

All sensory experience is occurring in this moment.

Now would you just simply allow yourself to rest in presence?

Just relaxing into being fully supported in this now moment.

Now as you rest in presence,

Allow to come into your consciousness a time in your life when you were moving or living or working in your zone of genius.

Not to do this,

Just relax and allow to come into consciousness a time in your life.

And it could have been a point in time when you were experiencing effortless contribution.

What you were doing felt as though it didn't take a lot of work or effort.

And you notice as well that as you were doing it,

There was a sense of fulfillment.

The doing of the thing itself was the reward.

There was joy and pleasure that came.

You might even notice that there was a loss of a sense of time,

Timelessness occurred.

And this could be when you were working on your stamp collection as a young child,

Or it could be when you were at your ballet recital.

It could be when you were crunching numbers and having that experience of awakening or insight that comes for you in the presence of numbers.

It could be as you are giving a talk to colleagues or working in your garden.

Just allow one experience of being in this place of effortless delight,

Timeless creation to come into consciousness.

And as it comes into consciousness,

Really let the videotape play in your mind.

Go ahead and see yourself in that moment.

See the surroundings.

If there were others there,

See them.

If you were in nature or creation,

See that.

Really allow yourself to re-perceive what was surrounding you.

Allow yourself to hear the sounds.

There might have been sounds when you were doing it.

And allow yourself to re-experience in your body what it's like to be,

Even for a moment,

In your zone of genius,

Effortless creation in an experience of timelessness,

The joy of the thing itself.

And I invite you to breathe that experience into your body so you're playing the videotape,

You're seeing and hearing and you're feeling in the body the sensation that arises as you remember that experience.

Really breathing,

Experiencing the sensations in the body,

The images and the sounds of a moment in time when you were playing in your genius.

So now take that experience in the body especially,

You can let the video go,

And just let the body have whatever experience it's having as you rest in presence and re-experience being in your genius.

And we're going to allow for that somatic experience,

The sensations in the body,

To be a new set point for the possibility of living and working more and more in your genius.

What would it be like to have this experience in ever increasing amounts in your life?

So the question we ask in this state of presence or meditation is would you be willing to have an ever expanding experience of living and working in your genius?

So just let that question wash over you.

Would I be willing to have an ever expanding experience of living and working in my genius?

Just ask it again,

Would I be willing to have an ever expanding experience of living and working in my zone of genius?

Now all we're doing in this meditation is noticing what comes up when we sit in that question.

Begin by noticing if any images or sounds or sensations arise in the body.

You might find your breathing getting short or your belly constricting.

You might have images or pictures from the past or hear the sounds of others' voices.

All you're going to do is welcome all that.

As you sit in the question,

Would I be willing to have an ever expanding experience of living and working in my genius?

You're just welcoming whatever occurs,

Including and especially your own voice that arises in your head.

And for many of us,

As we sit in this question,

What we notice is a yeah,

But.

We feel a pull,

A desire,

A wanting to experience this ever expanding presence of genius,

And yet we notice a but.

Maybe the voice in your head says,

But that's unrealistic.

But I could never make a living if I did that.

Who'd pay the bills?

But no one I've ever known has lived like that.

But others would be jealous of me and resent me.

But that's just an unrealistic fantasy.

Just notice any buts that come into your head.

And for now,

Just welcome them.

It's just the voice of the mind doing what the mind does.

So just welcome them.

Allow the thoughts to be there.

You don't need to figure them out or respond to them.

Just welcome any resistance that you have whatsoever to an ever expanding experience of living and working in your genius.

Many of us have,

And it's too good to be true,

Or I'd be too much.

So you're just welcoming body sensations and sounds and images,

And you're welcoming thoughts that arise.

You're calling them up by asking the question.

So you're allowing whatever experience is occurring.

And then see if as best you can in this moment,

You could just let all that go.

Let all the thoughts,

Even the sensations,

The feelings,

The images or sounds that are going to arise in the presence of the question,

Could you just let them go?

And simply allow yourself to return to the experience of effortless presence.

Just being here now.

Breathing and experiencing.

So this meditation practice is one that we invite you to do over the coming month to just call up all of your conscious and unconscious resistance to an ever expanding experience of living and working in your genius.

There's nothing more to do than to get present,

Remember a genius experience in your body,

And then ask yourself,

Would I be willing?

And then notice what comes up.

There's often a big yes,

And often resistance.

Just welcome it all.

And then come back to presence,

Allowing whatever's being experienced.

Good.
