Sympathetic joy.
So this practice will be about delighting in the joy of others and feeling that sense of happiness about something good that has happened to another person or group of people.
So getting yourself into a supportive position.
You might want to lie down for this or just be cozy or maybe you want to sit upright.
Gently closing your eyes if that feels good.
We're just going to start by thinking of something that has happened to you recently that you're joyful about.
Just bringing the details to mind.
Perhaps it's something that makes you want to rejoice or kind of feel that feeling of,
Yes,
That happened.
That's the feeling that we want to generate today.
So can you feel that in your body?
It can be something really tiny that you really enjoyed your shower this morning or,
You know,
Something big.
So just feeling that.
And then let's just reset by feeling your body and your feet on the surface beneath you.
And then we're going to bring to mind a loved one and something that they have experienced recently that's brought them joy.
Can you feel that same sense of joy but for another person?
So bringing the details to mind.
Again,
It might make you want to rejoice in that person's joy.
Can you feel that within you?
What does it feel like?
Where do you feel it?
Can you let it radiate through your body?
Okay,
We're just going to reset again,
Feeling your body,
Your feet on the surface beneath you.
And just bringing to mind a group of people who has recently experienced joy.
Perhaps it was winning a pitch or competition.
Feeling that sense of joy.
Again,
Feeling that in your body.
Perhaps it comes with a visual of you,
You know,
Saying yes or punching the air.
And bringing to mind the happiness of those people.
Can you share in that?
Okay,
Resetting with your body,
Your feet on the surface beneath you.
And now we're going to bring to mind a person who has experienced something that perhaps you would like to experience.
And this can be the tricky part,
Because they might have be associated with feelings of jealousy or envy.
So this is why it's a practice.
So bringing to mind somebody who's experienced something that you want recently.
And it's fine if this comes with mixed emotions.
Like just putting yourself into their shoes.
Noticing the joy they experience.
What does that feel like in your body?
Okay,
Well done if that was tricky for you.
And now resetting again.
Feeling your body,
Feet on the floor or the surface beneath you.
Bringing to mind a group of people.
So it might be all of those people that you have just focused on.
Or perhaps a community who have experienced some kind of joy.
And just holding those in your thoughts.
Can you share in that joy?
Can you generate that feeling of sympathetic joy?
Can you tune in to your body?
Sense how it's feeling?
Okay,
And just taking that with you into the rest of your day and perhaps noticing small joys that are happening all around you with yourself and with others.
Well done.
