You are not too old.
Quit telling yourself that.
I remember thinking as a 24-year-old that the music game had passed me by.
All of the pop stars who had made it big were younger than me.
I mean,
I was 24.
But it's all relative because when I look back at myself,
I realize how young I was.
Looking back,
I realize that at 24,
I had my whole life ahead of me.
Seriously,
It's all relative.
I imagine in the future,
When I look back on myself now,
I'll think,
Oh my gosh,
I was so young,
You know?
So quit telling yourself that you're too old for whatever it is that you want to do.
Go do it.
Don't let age be another excuse.
Embrace the wisdom and maturity that come with your age.
You're so much better prepared to handle the complexities,
The nuances,
The challenges that come with whatever it is that you're trying to do.
When I think back on my 24-year-old self,
I didn't have the confidence,
The wisdom,
And the maturity to handle life like I do now.
You're not too old.
I'm not too old.
Have you ever heard of the Little House on the Prairie?
The historical fiction series that is now a classic?
Over 60 million of those books have sold.
Did you know that Laura Ingalls Wilder,
The author,
Was 65 when she published her first book?
How about Charles Darwin?
Ever heard of him?
He was 50 when he published On the Origin of Species.
Grandma Moses had her paintings licensed by Hallmark,
Who sold over 16 million greeting cards of her work in 1947.
Guess when she started painting?
When she was 78 years old.
Now she's one of America's most famous folk artists.
Steve Carroll ever heard of him?
He was 43 when he booked The Office.
Larry David,
He didn't make it until he was 42 when he co-created Seinfeld.
Samuel L.
Jackson,
He didn't land his first big role until he was 43.
Y'all,
The list goes on.
So don't let anyone tell you you're too old.
First of all,
Don't let yourself tell you that.
Life is for living and embracing the seasons,
The change.
Learning to adapt and reinvent yourself is a beautiful part of this existence.
And I'm convinced that we are the only ones who can get in our way.
At some level,
Age is just a construct,
Simply something that we've decided to use as a metric of measurement.
If you are held back by the construct of age,
Realize that you may be allowing society to impose restrictions on your life with its often unsubstantiated claims about age.
Don't let yourself be convinced by the lies told to you and the lies you tell yourself.
Because you are not too old.
Actually,
You're just the right age.
