Welcome.

This is a time for you.

A time to rest from the effort of doing,

Fixing and striving.

A time to step back from the inner struggle with your emotions.

You may already know how exhausting it can feel to fight with what you feel.

To wrestle with anger.

To battle with sadness.

To resist anxiety or fear.

Each attempt at control can feel so urgent in the moment.

Yet so often,

The more we struggle,

The heavier our feelings become.

So for now,

There is nothing to do.

No battle to win.

No emotion to overcome.

Only the possibility of remembering the calm that already lives within you.

Now,

Allow your body to settle.

Feel the surface beneath you supporting your weight.

There is no need to hold yourself up.

Just allow that surface to hold you.

Notice the sensations in your body as you arrive here.

The temperature of the air.

The touch of clothing against your skin.

The rise and fall of your chest as breath moves in and out.

You do not need to change your breath.

Simply notice that it is happening.

Life is breathing you again and again.

A rhythm that never asks for your effort.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Softly.

Naturally.

If your mind wanders,

Gently come back to this breath.

It will always be here for you.

Take a moment to rest in this simple awareness.

Now notice how your emotions are here too.

Perhaps strong.

Perhaps faint.

Perhaps absent in this moment.

Whatever you find is welcome.

You do not need to go looking for a particular emotion.

You do not need to push away what is here.

Just allow yourself to notice.

Feelings are like the tide.

They move in and out.

Sometimes gently.

Sometimes with power.

With force.

But always in motion.

From a three principles perspective,

Emotions are thought in motion.

Energy in motion.

E-motion.

They are not fixed states.

They are not permanent features of your personality.

They are energy.

Shaped by thought.

Flowing through consciousness.

And because thought moves,

Emotions move too.

You may have noticed how quickly feelings can change.

One moment you feel upset.

Then something distracts you and it's gone.

Or you fall asleep heavy with worry.

And in the morning you wonder what the fuss was about.

Emotions are fluid by nature.

They are not things to capture,

Manage or control.

The more we fight them,

The more energy they seem to gather.

Like waves crashing against rocks.

Struggle makes them louder.

But when we step back from the fight,

They begin to soften.

Just as waves calm when they meet open shore.

Take a breath into that knowing.

Notice again the rise and fall of your chest.

The rhythm of life holding you steady.

What if your emotions never needed your struggle?

What if they were always safe to feel?

Not comfortable.

Not easy.

But safe.

Because they are not proof of damage.

They are not evidence of weakness.

They are not a measure of your worth.

They are only the weather of thought passing through.

And you are not the storm.

You are the sky that holds the storm.

Let yourself feel into that.

You are the vastness in which feelings arise.

And in which they pass.

Notice what happens when you stop pushing against emotion.

When you let go of the idea that you must control or manage it.

Often,

In that moment of release,

The feeling begins to shift.

Not because you forced it to.

Not because you performed a technique.

But because you stepped back and allowed the natural movement of thought to carry it onward.

This is the gift of letting go of the struggle.

Letting go is not the same as giving up.

It is not resignation.

It is not defeat.

It is trust.

Trust that your feelings are safe.

Trust that your well-being is intact even when emotions feel heavy.

Trust that the calm beneath the storm has never,

Ever left you.

As you sit here,

Notice again your body resting.

The weight of your hands.

The touch of your feet on the floor.

The gentle rhythm of breath.

All steady.

All present.

Even as thoughts and emotions shift above the surface,

Take a few moments to rest in this awareness.

Whenever your mind drifts into stories.

Stories about the past.

Stories about the future.

Stories about what your feelings mean.

Simply return here.

To body.

To breath.

To presence.

Notice how,

In this space,

There is less to do.

Less to manage.

Less to fix.

When you look back at your life,

You may see how many times emotions have passed on their own.

Moments of stress that seemed unbearable at the time.

Yet now,

They are memories.

Softened and distant.

Moments of sadness that felt endless.

Yet now,

You carry them lightly.

The truth is,

Feelings never last.

They cannot,

Because thought never stands still.

It is always flowing.

And you are always more than what you feel.

You are the space through which thought and feeling flow.

And that space is always whole.

Take another steady breath.

Inhale gently.

Exhale fully.

Allow your shoulders to soften.

Allow your face to soften.

Allow your whole body to release just a little more into the ground.

Notice how letting go feels in your body.

This ease.

This rest.

This calm.

They're not rewards you have earned.

They are qualities of your true nature,

Waiting beneath the noise.

You do not need to strive for them.

You only need to remember.

As this meditation comes to a close,

Rest for a few more moments in the knowing that struggle is not required.

Emotions may rise.

They may fall.

And they may return again.

But they are never permanent.

And they never define you.

The calm beneath them is always present.

Peace is always here.

Waiting to be remembered in any moment.

Take one final breath.

Inhale.

Exhale.

And as you return gently to your day,

Carry with you the freedom of knowing that you never need to struggle with your emotions again.

This gorgeous meditation literally calmed my farm. I have a bunch of caffeinated squirrels in my head. Now they have gone to bed. Thanks Clare.
