This practice will guide you to focus inwards at the new moon. It will assist in monthly intention setting and is the first in a series designed to guide you through the full lunar cycle. The phases of the moon happen to match the female menstrual cycle in length and nature. Our bodies are designed to follow a natural ebb and flow throughout the month and across the seasons. With the moon as muse, a lunar practice can guide you back to deep attunement with your natural rhythm.

A new moon meditation from Bright Beginnings Yoga.

Finding a comfortable place for your body,

Either seated or lying on the floor.

Take a moment to settle in.

And here we are.

The moon is dark in the sky.

Silver silhouette not shining on us at this time.

There's a sense of a deepening dark around.

Let yourself sink into this darkness now.

With every breath.

Feeling more at one and merging with the dark around you.

With every breath,

The body lightening.

As the physical distinction between skin and air starts to become blurry.

As you draw the air in and out of the body.

An awareness that that same air that is within you is without and around.

That same energy that sustains you,

Surrounds you.

And having now become part of this lightlessness.

Imagine now that you are stepping outside into the night on this new moon.

Feeling yourself part of the dark of the night around you.

You breathe deeply and steadily.

Sinking in the freshness,

The crispness of the evening air.

And something inside you knows that even though the moon is dark in the sky,

The world is dark around you.

That there's a light somewhere.

Your physical eyes cannot see it.

But something deep within you is searching for this light.

You take a moment to pause underneath the sky.

You sit down onto the grass,

Softening down.

And allowing the breath to lengthen and deepen even further.

As if by steadying and slowing that breath.

It might become one less thing to hide that light that you were searching for.

You begin to take note of this feeling of knowing that there is a light.

Perhaps it's comforting.

Perhaps it brings hope.

As these emotions arise,

Noticing where they manifest in the body.

What type of feeling is it in the body?

A tingling in the belly perhaps.

Lifting through the chest and the heart.

You will know.

And as the mind tunes in now with these bodily sensations.

Your awareness draws away from that external darkness.

And inside you deep within.

Allowing the awareness to plunge down into the pool and the depths of your being.

As if free falling,

Surrender to where this awareness takes you.

Noticing yourself now in this space.

Noticing the horizon of your awareness.

A pinprick of light.

And that pinprick of light seems to be coming from deep down in the area below your navel and above your pelvis.

You decide that you want to get closer to this light.

To understand the nature of this light.

You allow yourself to move closer to it.

And as you breathe yourself closer with every breath that light becomes a little clearer.

Still small but clear.

And as it becomes clear you see that that light is coming from deep within your womb space.

And you notice the nature of that light appears like a small candle.

Moving with air currents.

So fragile now.

Seeking fuel.

Seeking further oxygen to brighten it.

And so you place your hands onto your womb space.

Just below your belly.

And as you breathe you allow yourself to connect with this tiny light.

To connect with the symbol of promise that it brings for you.

And as the awareness of this light increases you may notice a reflection of this light in the palm of your hand.

The light becomes not only something that your mind sees that your body feels.

And that feeling with every inhale starts to seep its way from the palms around through the arms.

And with the following exhale floods into the body.

That feeling becomes stronger.

And perhaps you put a name to it.

Perhaps it's the feeling of something that you wish to come into your reality.

Connecting body sensation,

Desire and intention now into one inextricably linked.

And lightened concept.

A concept of pure potential.

And you know that all it needs is your gentle tending.

Drinking in those feelings,

Locking them deep within your body's memory now.

And knowing that as you start to release the palms now that you will let go of that tiny light.

But that in doing so you surrender these desires and intentions out into the universe.

With great intent and comfort in your own ability to be part of something new and exciting.

So deepening into the inhale now.

Breathing into the exhale as the hands release from the womb and the belly space.

Palms coming to rest.

As the breath begins to deepen.

As you fill the body up now with hope and promise.

With faith in your innate ability to create.

And with resolve to move forwards with the light of the moon through this month.

I had to chuckle when you brought up the womb halfway through the meditation and it dawned on me that this meditation was not made for me. Even so, an enjoyable meditation. Thank you.
