This is a 5-minute meditation to draw the attention to the breath and the presence of the Holy Spirit within us. We can utilize even small moments of quiet stillness to bring our attention to the nourishment of not only our breath but also the breath of the Spirit woven into each breath.

I invite you to settle in your chair or maybe you're lying down on the floor or on the bed.

But wherever you are,

Whatever position you're in,

I invite you to get comfortable.

Close your eyes if that works for you or cast them down maybe as a way of drawing the attention into the body,

Allowing yourself the distraction of vision to drop away for just this moment,

This practice,

And noticing the feelings and sensations in your body making contact with the chair or the floor or the bed.

And drawing your attention into your breath.

Not asking your breath to do anything unique or different or special in this moment,

But simply allowing yourself to be with what is already here,

Breathing.

You may notice air moving in and out of your nostrils.

Or it may feel more organic to you to notice the slight rise and fall of your chest moving up and down.

Or you may notice a slight expansion and then deflation of your belly as this life-giving air very naturally organically moves in and out of your body.

And when you notice that your mind has drifted,

You can very gently,

Kindly,

And firmly invite your attention back home to your breath.

One of the ways we think of the Holy Spirit as breath moving in and through us,

God's advocate moving in the air around us in the wind.

So when we come home to our breath,

We are coming home to the very alive and real presence of the Spirit already within us.

Infused in our life-giving breath is the breath of the Spirit.

So as we breathe in and out,

Noticing the slight rise and fall of our chest or the expansion and deflation of our belly,

The life-giving air moving in and out of our nostrils.

It's a way of coming home to the breath of the Spirit right here,

Right now,

With us.

Allowing that presence of the Spirit by way of breath nourish us in the present moment.

Maybe we feel sustained a bit in our awareness of the presence of the Holy Spirit.

And again,

When we notice that our mind drifts away,

It's no big deal.

It's just a mind doing what a mind does.

And when we notice that it's drifted from the breath from the Spirit,

Again,

We can very kindly,

Gently,

Firmly bring the attention back home to the breath of the Spirit.

Right here with us.

And in a few moments,

A bell's going to ring because we've been practicing for five minutes.

And if you choose to continue practicing after the bell,

You always know you're more than welcome to.

Thank you for spending time coming home to the Spirit.

I loved this short break in my already busy morning to be guided back to settled connection with Holy Spirit. Sometimes listening to someone guide takes my busy thoughts "off line" just long enough for me to settle into quiet. Thank you for your gentle voice, Carolineđź’—
