Today's Joy Work lesson is protecting yourself with optimism.
I want to begin with a poem called I See Myself as a Child.
I'm sharing this with you because you too have come so far.
I see myself as a child.
Sometimes she comes out of the corner of my eye.
Not that she is in a corner or trying to hide.
But she is far away like a bird and I rarely slow down long enough to notice the gradation of color and move of the branch.
But when I do it is a rare sighting.
An intake of breath.
Not moving.
Holding so as not to startle.
Holding time stretch between heartbeats slower than years.
Mind going blank.
Not counting how long.
But being with her as I could not be at first.
And then she is gone.
Flown back into the past.
And I am again moving with fully grown legs.
I can do whatever I want.
Make what I want.
And I whisper to her,
We did it.
We survived.
You and I.
We made it out.
We made it through.
In another Joy Work lesson we did some writing about conceptualizing success in new and optimistic ways.
And we've been moving into our creative projects with renewed energy.
In this lesson we will deepen that optimism and gain even more energy by journaling in response to these phrases.
You may surprise yourself by your answers.
That's good.
Go ahead and take out your journal.
Go right in response to each of these for one minute each.
I am stronger because.
It.
I am optimistic about I am proud of I am happy that I have accomplished I have grown by I am proud of I am proud of I know I am I know I am I know I am I celebrate myself for I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of I am proud of
