Welcome.

This is a meditation specifically created for parents and caregivers who have lost a child to cancer.

For this meditation,

We're going to start by getting comfortable.

Any position that lends to your comfort works best.

If possible,

And you have an open space,

Lay flat on your back and place your left hand over your heart and your right hand over your navel.

Take a deep breath in through your nose,

Pause for a moment at the top,

And release the breath slowly through your mouth.

Notice how your body is feeling in this moment.

Don't try to change the thoughts or the sensations you're experiencing,

Just bring them into your awareness.

Think of where you are holding on,

And try to think of where you can let go.

Think of where in your body it is that you feel tension right now,

And how you might soften that tension.

Please close your eyes,

But only if you'd like,

And begin to observe the natural flow of your breath as your belly rises and falls.

Feel the synchronicity of your hand,

Which is connected to your heart.

If you are sitting,

You can place your right hand over your navel,

And your left hand over your heart as well.

With your inhalation,

Intentionally send air toward the navel,

Allowing your belly to expand freely.

Repeat this several times,

And then return to your natural breathing.

You are here today because your child passed away.

Because life's circumstances are out of your control.

Because you are trying to survive the worst trauma that exists.

You did everything humanly possible to save your child's life.

The love you have for your child will never be lost.

You are here today because you are grieving deeply,

And because you want to heal.

Repeat after me,

I am not alone.

Breathe in through your nose,

And out through your mouth.

Your child died of cancer.

Repeat after me,

I am not alone.

I am not alone.

I am not alone.

There are other parents who have also lost their child to cancer.

They have survived.

They are living fulfilling lives today.

They are able to blend their trauma into joy.

They are taking one day at a time.

Repeat after me,

I am not alone.

I am not alone.

I am not alone.

Breathe deeply in through your nose,

Pause at the top,

And sigh it out.

You will find joy again.

You will find joy again.

Repeat after me,

I will find joy.

I will find joy.

I will find joy.

I did everything I could.

I did everything I could.

I did everything I could.

You did everything you could.

You do not have to grieve alone.

You are supported.

Visualize what your support system could and might look like.

Breathe in through your nose,

And out through your mouth.

Repeat after me,

I am supported.

I am supported.

I am supported.

Now wrap your arms around your shoulders and give yourself an immense hug.

Take a deep breath in,

Pause at the top,

And exhale.

You will survive.

Repeat after me.

I will survive.

I will survive.

I will survive.

You are here today.

You are present in this moment.

You lost your child,

And you know what a gift this life is.

Give yourself love.

Repeat after me.

I love myself.

I love myself.

I love myself.

Healing takes time.

Have patience for yourself.

Repeat after me.

I will have patience for myself.

I will have patience for myself.

I will have patience for myself.

You are healing,

Although it may not feel as if you are healing at the pace that you would like to.

You are healing with every new day.

Repeat after me.

I am healing.

I am healing.

I am healing.

Release your arms to the floor if you are lying on your back.

To your side if you are sitting.

Keep your eyes closed and enjoy one deep breath in through your nose,

Pause at the top,

And out through your mouth.

Feel your bottom on the floor.

Feel your back rooted in the ground.

Open your eyes and notice the light that exists all around you.

If it is late at night,

Then notice the warmth of the darkness.

Allow your body to reconnect to your surroundings.

Notice the walls,

The floor,

The ceiling light above you.

Notice the sensations in your body.

Begin to move your fingers and toes.

Tell your child how much you love them.

I love you.

I love you.

I love you.

Then take several more breaths in and out.

In and out.

You are here.

You are alive.

You are well.

You are magic.

You are so incredibly special because your extraordinary child chose you.

The external bond may be gone,

But the internal bond exists infinitely between you and your child.

For this reason,

You will never be alone.

You are not alone.

You will find joy.

Continue to love yourself.

Continue to send your love for your child into the universe.
