Just Thinking: Open The Window
This is an excerpt from a talk at a workshop on Fear. The talk was entitled "Let Your Vision Supercede Your Fear." Fears, real or imagined, are tricky rascals, most of the time hiding out for years in our subconscious mind. Fear can keep you from opening the window when what you need or want is just on the other side.

Allowing your visions to supersede or displace,
Replace,
Surplant your fears.
Allow means allow.
It means you have the power,
And that's the important part.
You have the power to make the decision for something to happen or not to happen.
Very often,
We give up that power to hope,
Maybe luck,
Something like that.
But we have the power to make things happen or not happen.
We are co-creators of our own reality.
We can allow our visions.
We have the power,
Have the strength,
Have the mental focus to allow or not to allow.
For example,
If we are inside and outside,
The wind is blowing,
And inside,
It's just hot and stuffy,
Or we just need some fresh air.
You go over to the window.
You have the power to open the window and allow the air that you need to flow in to freshen the room,
To cool it off if it's too hot.
You have the power to open that window and allow that air to come in.
You also have the power to not open the window.
You can stand at the window and say,
I really wish that it was nicer in here.
I really wish it wasn't so stuffy.
But nothing happens until you reach out and open the window to allow the fresh air to come in.
Let's think of the wind as possibilities,
Blessings,
Refreshing,
Healing,
Everything that is absolutely possible that you can imagine that is desirous.
Imagine that's what's blowing in the wind.
The only thing standing between you and what you need from the wind is you.
The window doesn't open itself.
You have to reach out and open the window.
But it depends on how much you open the window,
That determines how much fresh air will come in.
Can you see from that,
You're in control of the allowing,
The letting of what you need to come to you.
The wind will blow outside and be just fine blowing outside.
The wind is available to anyone who wants to bring it into their space.
Anybody can open their window.
Anyone can have access to the wind that is blowing outside and the possibilities that are there.
The wind does not discriminate.
The wind has the properties that it has.
It only goes where it is allowed to go.
If a strong wind blows and your window is closed,
The wind may beat against your window.
You may hear it,
But it just keeps on moving.
You get none of it.
However,
If you decide to allow the wind and whatever is in that wind,
Whatever the properties are,
That wind might be metaphor for some blessing that you want,
Relationship,
Job,
Promotion,
Home,
Any prosperity,
Whatever it is that the wind can be a metaphor for,
Then you are allowing that by opening the window and allowing it to come in.
If you open it just a little bit,
Just a little bit,
Then only a little bit of air,
A little bit of wind will come in.
It doesn't force its way in.
If you only open it a little bit,
That's what you get.
If you open the window a lot,
Then a lot of air will blow through.
You and I have control of what we allow to come in.
That feels a little bit strange,
But I want you to sit with that understanding.
Sit with it just for a second.
I have the power to allow small blessings,
Medium-sized blessings,
Huge blessings to come in.
It is dependent upon how wide I open the window.
In other words,
How much air or blessing I allow to come in.
I want to be very clear that the properties of the wind or your vision or your blessing does not discriminate.
It's there.
It's up to you to allow it to come in.
Oftentimes,
We get tangled up in,
Well,
How do we make this thing happen?
What do I have to say?
What do I have to do?
Do I have to perform a ritual for this to happen?
You just need to allow it to happen.
As much as you and I work,
We don't manufacture the blessing.
We don't manufacture that which we want.
We envision it.
We desire it.
It's up to us to understand the possibilities.
Do you realize how sometimes we don't have big dreams because we don't believe in big dreams?
We just believe in a little bit.
If I could just get enough to pay the bills,
If I could just have enough to do this,
This or this,
And the one that really gets us is,
I'm not trying to be greedy.
I'll just take this little bit.
You cannot exhaust what the universe has to offer.
You don't have any idea what the universe has to offer.
Whatever we can conceive of is far less than what's available to us.
It only stands to reason that you and I should open the window,
And that's where faith comes in,
Because we don't get to see everything up front.
It's good.
It's good that we don't,
Because if we knew everything up front,
Then we would keep that window closed,
Because we would be trying to figure out,
Well,
Can I cope with this?
How do I cope with that?
No,
We don't get to see everything.
The scripture says that God's word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our pathway.
The light only shines a little bit at a time.
It does not light up everything.
It says unto my feet and a light unto my pathway,
Which means it only shows you the next step.
Florence Koval Shinn uses the term,
Show me the next divine right step.
Because we have a desire in our heart,
It's out there for us,
But we don't have to create it and fix it and make it happen.
Everything starts with an idea.
Everything,
How big the skyscraper,
How magnificent the airplane,
How amazing it was that the rocket went up to the moon.
We talk on these little phones.
It started with an idea.
Someone had it and opened the window,
Allowed that vision to come through,
Allowed the vision to come to life,
The energy necessary for that vision to come to fruition,
To come into manifestation comes with first a thought and then allowing the evolution of that.
Please don't get hung up with the notion that it is ours to bring to pass.
We don't have that kind of creative power to do it.
That belongs to God.
That is a divine domain of power.
We put it out there.
We put it out there in the soil and the laws in the universe work it out for us.
Now,
In the working it out,
If we lose faith,
If we lose heart,
If we get disappointed and we quit,
That has nothing to do with the power that's available to us.
We're just closing the window.
We're just saying,
Look,
It didn't happen.
The room didn't cool off quick enough.
I'm closing the window and you're moving on.
So that's why this notion of allowing is so important,
Because the allowing is connected to a sense of faith.
Faith is one thing,
But it doesn't require all that much faith.
You can just say to yourself,
I'm going to open the window and see what happens.
I'm not expecting a whole lot,
But I know I'm not getting anything with the window closed and the air is out there.
The blessings out there,
The possibilities are out there.
What have I got to lose?
Let me open the window.
That doesn't require a whole lot of faith.
Maybe a little bit of guts,
Maybe a little sense of adventure,
But it all works the same way.
All of this business that we put in it in terms of deserving and all of that business,
That's not a part of it.
We're only to vision what we want.
We're only to entertain the thought and allow the thought to grow.
And then the universe brings in the component parts to make it happen.
Just a thought.
Allowing that thought to grow and be open,
Allow,
Be open to the things that come to you that build upon that thought.
It's getting a thought,
Knowing that it is divine.
It's part of who you are.
It's part of the divine in the sense that God is in us,
Moves through us,
As us.
We all share the one mind.
That's the idea of oneness.
We all share in that oneness.
And when we embrace that idea,
What that automatically does is open our spirit to receive the divine or infinite intelligence of God,
Because we're not disallowing it.
We're not allowing unbelief to hold it back from us.
We're not allowing unbelief to keep the window closed.
And when we look at things in detail like that,
We can see how some of the things that we have held on to,
Some of the fears that we've held on to,
Keep us from allowing and open.
What's going to happen if?
That's a biggie.
If I do this,
Suppose that.
Most of our fears are wrapped around something that never happened.
It's a vision of something that never happened.
Oh yeah,
Well,
I know what happened to so-and-so,
That so-and-so.
It didn't happen to you.
Well,
It happened to me last year when I tried it.
Well,
That was last year.
Try it again.
We have to allow and not hold back.
So allowing our visions.
So now let's look at the vision.
What is it that's in your heart that you have seen,
That you desire,
That you hope for,
That you wish for,
If I could just be?
I know it's in me to be.
Now,
It requires a little bit of honesty,
A little bit of reality where that's concerned.
I love music.
I really wish I was a musician.
I play a little bit by ear,
But that's not enough to be a musician.
The reality is that is not my being.
It's my like,
Wish,
But it's not who I am.
Who I am is who I am.
When I sit with spirit and allow spirit to speak to me from within,
Spirit knows who I am.
And because of that,
I know who I am.
And when I stay in that place of being,
Then I can see all of the possibilities available to me because it's part of who I am.
It's part of what makes things happen for me.
It's part of what makes the dream or the possibilities become a reality because we sit with who we are.
We let go of the fantasies.
Fantasies are different than visions.
Fantasies are things that aren't real.
And I'm not going to tell you not to fantasize.
That's up to you.
But when it comes to the vision,
That is a sneak peek of the great possibilities infinite intelligence has placed in your spiritual eye,
Things you know about yourself that nobody else knows,
The can do that you understand,
That you are able to do.
Nobody else really knows about it.
Maybe you didn't share it with anybody.
Maybe it's just been with you.
Your visions,
Not somebody else's for you.
But that thing you know is yours.
And if you didn't do it when you were 30 and you didn't do it when you were 40,
Guess what?
The vision grows with you.
What does that vision look like now?
If you go back to your 30-year-old self and look at the vision that you had,
What would that vision look like at this point?
That's where you are now.
That's where you are.
The vision grows with you.
It doesn't leave you.
We turn away from our visions.
Our visions don't leave us.
So what would that vision be?
Sometimes we get stuck at what used to be,
What we hoped for then.
When you are 60,
You still think with your 20-year-old mind.
It's still there.
It's as fresh as it was when it was 20.
We think that as we age,
Our visions go away.
They don't.
Our visions come with us.
They mature with us.
So again,
If you had the vision when you were 12 or 14 or 34 or 44,
What would it look like now?
And that's where you start now.
You can't start when you were 30 because that didn't happen.
There was enough life that has happened,
That has matured you and your vision.
You've come along together.
How about allowing it to come forward?
What does the vision look like now?
When you step into it,
What's it look like today?
And sit with that and nurture that and believe that.
Because let's go to our analogy with the wind that blows and all the properties that are out there.
Whatever the properties of the wind,
It's always there.
I love to go to the ocean.
I don't care if it's active or calm.
It's still H2O.
That's it.
It's still H2O.
It's just water.
It may behave one day differently depending on the wind,
Depending on the season,
The time of day,
The moon.
All of that has an effect on it,
But it is still just water.
So our visions are in our heart that are ours.
Don't change.
It is still there.
But what does it look like now?
Allow your vision to supersede,
Overtake,
Be greater than your fears.
The reality is that fears are present in our lives.
There are things in our subconscious,
In our past,
That have caused us to be afraid to step out there and do things.
I call them the saboteurs,
The things that just scare you or make you doubt yourself and think you can't do it.
Maybe it's for somebody else,
But it's not for me.
Well,
Did you ever ask yourself why not?
It's only not for you because you have decided that it's not for you.
So I don't mean to skirt over fear as though it's all you got to do is say no,
No,
No,
No.
But let's bring it into its right focus.
Fear is something you have agreed with,
Probably did it subconsciously.
So you have agreed that whatever this is,
It's going to be detrimental.
It's going to hurt me.
It's going to not help me.
It's going to tear down everything.
It's going to just mess up everything.
And you agreed with that.
It didn't happen.
It didn't happen.
But you agreed somehow,
Subconsciously,
That this thing,
This saboteur in there is going to mess up everything,
Going to mess up your dream and vision.
And so you get scared of even trying it.
So for example,
You think that the dream that you have requires some level of public speaking.
Well,
I'm not a good speaker.
And I'm going to get up there,
And I know I'm going to mess up.
And I know I'm going to forget everything that I'm supposed to say.
And I'm going to lose my place on the notes.
And we could just go on and on and on with,
I know what's going to happen.
I know what's going to happen.
None of that happened.
It only happened in your head,
In your imagination.
The fear has gotten you to such a place that you have built the fear greater than the vision.
So the fear has stopped the vision from coming forward to fruition.
Flip it.
Let the vision be greater than the fear.
There is nothing magic.
Let's take the example of you've got to make a speech.
Maybe you have to talk to somebody about financing or whatever it might be.
You have a product you have to sell.
And you say,
Well,
I can't do this.
There's no way I can do it.
And you figure out,
Well,
Maybe I can hire somebody to speak for me.
Now,
This is your vision.
Make that vision greater than the fear,
Which means you say,
What am I afraid of?
That's a big question.
What is it that I'm afraid of?
Now,
You got to have a lot of guts to ask that question because every question demands an answer.
What do I mean by that?
The question never goes away.
You can decide,
I'm not answering that.
I'm not going to sit on it.
I'm not even going to talk about my fear.
Well,
Guess what?
If you decide that you want to make this vision a reality in 15 years,
The question is going to still be there because the fear is waiting on you.
What is it you're afraid of?
Once you ask the question,
Then answer the question.
And keep answering the question until you get to the root of it.
That's getting into your subconscious mind.
What is it I am afraid of speaking in public?
Why are you afraid of speaking in public?
Well,
I don't speak very well.
Practice.
So why are you afraid to practice?
Well,
Because I practiced before and it didn't work.
Practice again and practice again.
When I did it in elementary school,
Everybody laughed at me because whatever.
Keep answering the question.
You ask the question,
What am I afraid of?
And you keep answering the question until you get to the root of it.
And when you get to the root of it,
You find out all the time it's something you can handle.
It's just been something that has scared you,
Messed with you all these years.
Just mess.
It's not real.
No fear is real.
It's real to us because it causes us to break out in a sweat and,
Oh my God,
This is going to happen.
No.
Step up to it.
Now,
It's easy for me to say because I'm not in your shoes.
But I'm in my shoes.
I've had fears.
I have some even now.
And I've had to say,
What is it you're afraid of?
And until we get to that,
That's how we can make our vision greater than our fears.
Because it really comes down to this.
How much do you want the vision?
Let's go back to the window.
You want that air to come in.
Why don't you just open the window?
Resistance.
That's the opposite of allowing.
So what's causing you to be resistant to opening the window?
Stay with me on this.
What's causing you resistance to opening the window and allowing the refreshing air to come through that you need and that you want?
Well,
If I open the window,
Somebody might stick their hand in and come in and rob the place.
You're saying it might happen.
Might is not happen.
Might is not a reality.
Might is something that is there that scares you.
We can build a enormous giant on the other side of the window that's not even there.
So much so that we say,
I'm not opening that window.
I'm just going to leave it closed.
And so you sit there,
Knowing the air is on the other side.
You're hot and sweaty.
Open the window and allow that which you want to come to you.
But you can see from the example,
It is wrestling with not just,
Can I get the window open?
But it's the reason you don't want to open the window because of what might happen.
Might is not is.
Might is not will.
Might is just might.
And might does not exist.
What exists is what's on the other side of the window.
When you open it,
That's simply all there is.
And until we allow,
Let,
Give permission for the blessing,
The manifestation to come in,
It won't come in.
I'm Carol.
Thank you for listening.
I'd love to know what you think about opening the window.
