Welcome to Wonder Now,

The portal into wondering and appreciating and cultivating wonder so that it extends into every part of your life.

My name is Carly Patak and I am so thrilled to get to join you in this wonderful experience.

And let's begin to wonder together and as we wonder,

Remembering that part of the magic in wondering is that there is no need for answers.

Wondering is simply feeling that curiosity,

Appreciation,

Noticing and allowing those to grow and shine.

So let's begin to wonder about all the amazing food that shows up on our plates in our lives.

And let's use one representative piece of food to wonder about.

Let's take a piece of broccoli.

And I wonder how it was that broccoli began to be cultivated.

What was ancient broccoli like?

Who decided that broccoli was delicious?

How much has it changed from how it used to be to how it is now as it's been cultivated?

And if we begin to consider a piece of broccoli,

Imagining a piece of broccoli on your plate,

That specific piece of broccoli,

How was it that somebody saved a seed to plant that piece of broccoli?

Who decided to save which seed?

And who was it that decided and how was it that it became that a certain place for growing that seed was cultivated?

Where was that place?

Was it in perhaps California,

Mexico,

Somewhere in South America?

Was it hydroponic?

Was it in the ground?

If it was in the ground,

How was it that that piece of earth has the nutrients to grow this broccoli?

Was it that hundreds and thousands of years of different plants decomposed to create the nutrients in the soil?

Or perhaps there were amendments to the soil that came from other places on the earth.

What were those amendments that made this nourishing piece of broccoli?

And when was the time of year when that seed was planted into that piece of earth?

And how did that seed know?

What signaled to it that it's time,

It's time for you to grow?

And how did that little tiny broccoli seed have enough power and energy contained within to begin to send those sprouts down into the earth to begin to feel the water?

And what was that water?

Was it rain?

Did it come from a river and get piped in?

And how did that broccoli know to send those roots in this direction and begin to send the stem in this other direction through the darkness?

How did it know that there would be warm sunlight waiting there for it?

And what is it that happens when a plant engages with sunlight and water and air and grows?

How amazing is it that that happens?

Plants just grow.

They just grow.

In this piece of broccoli,

As it grew and grew,

How was it that it was tended,

That there weren't other plants around trying to take the nutrients or the sunlight,

But this broccoli that you get to eat was nourished,

Intended for just this purpose for you?

Isn't that incredible?

And as this broccoli grew to its perfection,

How was it decided?

When was it decided?

Who decided that this broccoli is ready for harvest?

It is perfect now.

It is going to be delicious now.

How was that broccoli harvested?

Was it by hand?

By a machine?

Who built the machine if it was a machine?

Who took the time to do it by hand?

And was it a small harvest,

A big harvest?

Was it put into a big pile of broccoli that all was being harvested,

Or was there just a few pieces of broccoli that were ripe and ready and chosen for you?

And once that broccoli was harvested,

How did it go from being in that field to a place where you could see it and buy it?

Perhaps you went to a store,

Perhaps you went to a farmer's market.

Who decided that this place was going to exist solely for the purpose of providing broccoli for people like you?

Was it transported by truck,

By air,

By water?

And when the broccoli arrived to that marketplace,

What in you was drawn to that broccoli?

What in you said,

That's the one for me.

That looks delicious.

That looks nutritious.

I'm going to enjoy that particular piece of magical broccoli.

And then how is it that you carried this broccoli to a person that you most likely,

Perhaps you knew them,

But most likely you didn't,

And traded them?

You have this piece of paper,

Or perhaps this card that has a sign significance,

A signed meaning to it,

But actually it's really just a piece of paper,

And it's really just a piece of plastic connected to a whole bunch of machines.

But somehow a lot of people in systems decided that you could trade this piece of paper,

Or show them this plastic card,

And then you would get that nutritious broccoli.

And then how did you get that broccoli home?

And when you decided to enjoy that piece of broccoli,

How was it that you had all of those tools and implements?

Perhaps you used a knife,

A pan,

Maybe some oil.

Who harvested that oil?

Who forged that knife?

Who picked the spices,

Dried the salt?

How did you decide,

Oh,

This is the way that I like broccoli?

I remember,

I know how broccoli tastes.

What in you translates that green piece of broccoli into the flavor of broccoli in your mouth that you know that you've tasted before?

You can generate the memory of what broccoli tastes like,

And not only what broccoli tastes like,

But how you like it to taste.

Maybe you like it with cheese,

Maybe you like it raw,

But you have a memory for containing the information of tastes,

Of preparations.

It's so incredible.

You are a wonderful experiencer.

You get to experience so many amazing,

Wonderful foods like broccoli and all the other foods you get to enjoy.

Each one has its own story,

And that story is a long and varied story,

Even a simple piece of broccoli.

Just feeling the wonder and amazement that you get to enjoy eating food and appreciating all those steps,

All those places,

All the transactions that happened for you,

To get to enjoy that.

So allowing for a moment now to consider,

Appreciate,

And wonder about some of the foods that you have eaten recently,

And taking that wonder and appreciation forward into your next experiences of eating food.

It's time for you to go wonder your now.

Thank you 🙏. That is a lot of questions. This is a good example of wonder instead of assuming.
