Hello and welcome to another episode of the Wild Freewell podcast.
It's been a while and I think that's a good thing to be honest with you.
I think it's very much in line with the message that I want to share today which is this idea of kind of counterculture to the cult of busy and feelings of overwhelm.
I want to talk a little bit about how to really take care of yourself and how to really honor yourself in the moments where things feel too big or too scary or overwhelming or in the moments where you know adulting gets hard because that's that's a thing I think that's a real thing where adulting becomes really challenging and the general just to do's of our daily lives and I mean simple things like clean the house,
Take care of your kids,
Take care of your family,
Take care of yourself,
Show up for your friends,
For your colleagues,
Do a good job at work,
Don't forget to go for a run,
Don't forget to make dinner,
When all of those simple things that just are basic to human life begin to feel a little bit intense.
And I've been talking about this with a client lately because we were talking about how there just never seems to be enough time and I think that a lot of people in modern society are living in what I would consider a time deficit and I know that I feel this sometimes too and it seems like our to-do list is never-ending there's always more that we need to be doing there's always something on our plate and one of the things that I said to her in her session and something that I used to say a lot when I was a teacher at an elementary school to my kids was this idea of you're you're just a little human like you're just a little human and sometimes the expectations that we have for ourselves and the things that we can accomplish in a given amount of time or better the things that we should accomplish in a given amount of time are a little bit unrealistic maybe they're not unrealistic in a grander sense maybe they're unrealistic for the emotional and physical capacity that you have in this particular moment but it's still really important to feel into this and to remember that you are an adult yes you are a human yes but you are just a tiny tiny little human and I mean that in so many different ways I mean it as in the sense of like yes you have an inner child but I also mean it in the sense that on the grand scale of the world okay and all of the global problems that exist yes you are important and in equal measure you're just a little human you're just one person and one person can have an impact so it's not that's not deny that of course one person can have an impact but it's not up to you to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders whether that be the world at large or your individual world you know your family your responsibilities etc etc so when we get to this space where we're feeling overwhelmed and we're worshipping at the cult of busy how can we prioritize our own well-being and this is something that I tell you guys all the time and I'm gonna keep telling you I don't have an answer for you for this I can't possibly have an answer for you for this I can only have an answer for myself about what I would do in order to prioritize my well-being so I've been really leaning into this lately it's been a huge game changer for me especially since I started engaging with Tasha Silver's material about surrender and a little bit about manifestation as well but really it's about connecting to the divine and to connecting to the universe and the more that I've leaned into this work the more I've understood that I can't show up for people unless I show up for myself and yeah it's simple and I talk about it all the time but I think that I was living in a space where I was really giving to clients more than I was giving to myself giving to my family to my partner to our house to the sense of responsibility I think in general I was giving everything I had to do and I was getting what was left over and I'm gonna be real honest here there wasn't a whole fuck ton left over her at the end of the day so I really had to shift that and the ways that I did that were really leaning into surrender and understanding that I actually can't do everything and I actually have a whole podcast on this topic you can do anything but you can't do everything so I'm just prioritizing and one of the shifts that I've made especially in the last month but in all of 2022 I would say is I started prioritizing my physical well-being so really exercising that's a key one for me I love running but I run for my mental health I'm not trying to break any records I'm not even trying to like outdo myself I'm just trying to like keep my crazy at bay and running is key for me that's what does it I feel equally humbled and powerful every single time I go for a run I take my dog Mila running if you follow me on Instagram then you've seen her cute little face and I love her and I love that running also brings her joy so I get a lot out of this experience of running and it's been a game changer in terms of energy for me it's really brought things back to back into balance and then at the same time I've been working on eating a little bit healthier and this is not restrictive you've if you've been following along with me or the podcast for a while you know that I do not believe in diets the closest I've ever come is air veda and I love that although I would say that right now I'm not necessarily following it I'm just trying to be as intuitive as possible and just eat when I'm hungry and allow my body to crave things and give it what it wants and allow it to find its own sense of balance because I believe that my body is infinitely intelligent I believe that all bodies are infinitely intelligent and that they are going to lead us exactly where we need to be if we're just willing to listen so it's not been restrictive it's not like I've cut out anything I've not cut out sugar I've tried a little bit to cut down on caffeine but even then like on the days that it happens great and on the days that it doesn't great I'm not I refuse to be restrictive with myself it just all of these tools that we have our tools only insofar as we use them in a positive way the minute that anything becomes punishing it's no longer serving you and discipline for the sake of discipline is not valuable in my opinion so yeah so that's one thing that I've been doing to prioritize my well-being has been focusing on self-care in terms of really health so really physically in that sense and I've been reading more of the seasons changing I'm starting to go to the beach and these are the things that help me feel like me that helped me feel like I'm taking care of me but they're not gonna be the same for you so it really is about you tapping into what makes you feel good and I've talked about this on the podcast I'm sure in the past but I also talk about it with clients all the time and the best way to do this is to really take 10 seconds like actually do it pause the podcast right now and do it because it takes no time put it on your phone in your notes app but write down your happy list write down a list of 10 things that make you feel really really good and when the shit inevitably hits the fan as it will okay or when you're worshipping at the cult of busy then you can look at that list and you can say okay today I feel called to do this and these are things that are inherent to you right these are the things that make you happy and only you maybe you can like put anything on this list it can be simple like a hot shower for me is on there running is on there cuddles with Mila but it can be things like travel it can be bigger things like taking myself out for dinner it can be like girly things like spa time or bath time or whatever like it's the options are endless but it's all unique to who you are and then the next step I think for this is to remember that if you're just a little human there's a reason for that and it's because there is inside of you still exists that little version of you that little child right that little you that you were when you were growing up and you were trying to figure out who you were and what your place was in the world and so how can you take care of that little you because what they need might be different than what you as an adult needs right and that that's really interesting I think to take a second and fit into like really lean into that like what did you love when you were a kid what really made you feel alive and what made you feel like you were loved seen heard and appreciated I talk about this all the time I'm gonna keep repeating it until I'm blue in the face it's what we all want food oxygen shelter yes and then love appreciation to feel seen and to feel heard basic human needs in my opinion and so how can you give those things to your little you and maybe understanding too you can uncover a lot of patterns if you sit with this too because you can understand okay well if I need love where did I not get love when I was younger or who didn't give me love when I was younger and how are these patterns playing out in my current situation as well so there's a lot that you could dive into if you wanted to kind of go a little bit deeper but for now it's really just about being with the self-care in the moment so how can you love that little version of you what did you love to do as a child what made you happy what made you feel safe what made you feel good and really lean into that and remember her or him in the moments when things get really crazy when you start to feel overwhelmed there's that little version of you that's probably feeling a little bit neglected and taking five minutes to really like have a conversation or check in and be like hey how's it going how can I take care of you could be the single shift that changes everything about your energy that changes the situation for you so keeping this all in mind how can you honor the fact that you are just a little human where are you in terms of feeling overwhelmed or feeling like you're constantly busy or feeling like you're in like you have a time deficiency right now where can you take five minutes to really give back to yourself and then if you have the opportunity the means like the resources so time energy and money to give yourself something bigger a day off time in a place that really made you feel safe and alive or happy as a child if you can go back and connect to that physical place as well and maybe that's home or maybe it's a park or the lake or the ocean or maybe it's like a hike that you used to do with your family or a place where you guys used to picnic or maybe it's playing a board game that used to play as a family whatever it might be how can you give that to yourself if you have the time energy and money to do that right because it can be little or it can be big it's really just up to you to make the most of it so I hope you found this episode useful and if you did please leave a review or a comment below and yeah I look forward to seeing you on the next episode of the podcast
