The Trickle Over Effect Of Creativity Explained - Why Everyone Can Be Creative If They Wish
by Boom Shikha
I believe every human is creative in their own special way, but if you are feeling a lack of creativity recently in your life, there is a way to counteract that. It's the Trickle Over effect, and it's how you can increase the level of general creativity in your life.

In this video,
I want to speak to you guys about creativity and how I suddenly or recently discovered something about it that I wanted to share with you guys.
I've been using this technique for a while now but I didn't realize consciously that I was doing it until I spoke to a friend of mine who kind of really helps me figure these things out.
He's an ENTP and I totally recommend that if you're an INFJ,
You speak to ENTPs because their straightforward logical way of thinking really helps me pull in a lot of insights from my mad,
Mad way of thinking,
My mad way of going all over the place.
Basically,
What he's going through right now is that he has a chronic illness.
He has MS and he's on disability.
He lives in Toronto.
One of the things that he's going through is that he doesn't know exactly what his life purpose is.
He's living at home.
He's on disability so they're paying for all of his bills.
But because of the fact that he has all of this time and energy,
At his disposal,
He feels like he should be doing something more with his life rather than just recuperating or recharging or taking care of himself health-wise.
What his dilemma is that he's not able to figure out what exactly he's supposed to be doing with his life.
He's in this comfort zone and it's easy for him because he doesn't have to worry about money.
He doesn't have to worry about anything at this moment in time only.
The future is obviously unknown for him.
But at this moment in time,
He has no worries with regards to his income or where he's living.
Everything is taken care of.
So basically,
He could just spend all of his time and he does spend all of his time watching Netflix and playing video games and going on Tinder.
It's pretty funny when you think about it.
I mean,
This is the ideal life for most people,
But he is not satisfied with it.
It was good enough for a year and now he's like,
All right,
What am I going to do with my life?
The problem is that he is unsure of exactly what kind of creative work he wants to do.
He knows he wants to build something.
He doesn't know exactly what.
He knows he wants to be more creative with his life and with the projects that he's doing,
But he doesn't know exactly how.
And so all of this is causing him to be in a sort of standstill where he's just doing the same thing over and over again,
But unsure of where it is taking him in the future.
He's not sure where he's going,
Where what he's going to be doing a year from now.
What if his disability runs out?
How is he going to support himself,
Etc.
So there's a lot of things going on in his life,
And I love him for all the different things he's doing.
But the question about creativity really brought something up in my head that I thought was interesting and I shared with him.
Hopefully he's able to put it into fruition for himself or put it into practice.
The thing about creativity that I've noticed for myself in my own life is that it's all interconnected,
Just like everything else on this planet and in the universe.
But creativity is not isolated.
It's not like you're creative in one aspect of your life and that is it and it doesn't affect the rest of your life.
For example,
If you're creative in the way you set up your life,
If you're a digital nomad or if you are semi-retired and you're doing interesting things with your life or you're working at a job that you really love and you're being creative there,
That creativity,
The creativity in your life,
In your job,
In your work,
In your hobbies,
All that creativity will trickle over to every other aspect of your life.
It is not isolated,
It's not staying in one portion of your life or one portion of your brain,
Really.
I think what happens is that the neurons that are used by creativity,
The creative work that you're doing,
It trickles over and affects all of the other neurons,
Not only in your entire brain,
Because it's also a very meditative activity and also it's an activity that kind of brings in together both parts of your brain,
If you're doing it right,
But also kind of trickles over to all the neurons surrounding it.
And this trickle-over effect,
This trickle-down effect,
Trickle-over effect,
Whatever you want to call it,
This causes creativity to pop up in other aspects of your life as well,
Which means that,
For example,
If you start all of a sudden being creative in one part of your life,
For example,
You're not doing anything creative in your life,
That's what you think,
I think everyone is creative in their own way,
But you think you're not doing anything creative in your life,
But all of a sudden you decide,
All right,
I'm going to start taking salsa lessons.
And you go and you have salsa dancing and you go and you really like it,
You love it,
It really is something that really inspires you.
You go to class three times a week and you're enjoying it,
Your body's enjoying it,
Your mind is enjoying it.
And all of a sudden you'll notice that you start being more creative in the way you dress.
It just happens so that in the morning when you're getting up,
Instead of just choosing the same outfit that you always choose,
You're like,
Let me choose that red shirt or that beautiful red skirt that I've never worn before and let me try wearing that all of a sudden.
It just happens automatically,
You only think about it twice,
It's just subconscious,
Yeah?
And so you start dressing a little bit more creatively and then you'll notice also the way you start going to your office,
The direction you take or the route you take also becomes a little more creative instead of just taking the same old route,
You decide,
Alright,
I'm going to walk the last 10 minutes of my route or I'm going to go around this park rather than I'm going this way,
Yeah?
And I've noticed this happens a lot in my life.
If I'm creative one aspect of my life,
That creativity trickles over to every other aspect of my life.
It's not an isolated event that happens on its own for those two hours of the week that you're going to your watercolor painting lesson.
It happens so that because of the fact that your neurons are activated,
Your creative neurons and because of the other neurons being activated and also your brain is in a more meditative state and you're in an enjoyment state,
You're enthusiastic,
You're having fun,
All of that causes creativity to become intermingled with your life in general.
And this happens as a very subconscious,
Unconscious,
Automatic thing.
You don't have to think about it too much.
So that's what I recommend to my friend as well is that if you're having a little bit of a hard time figuring out how to be creative in your life,
Don't actually think about it too much,
Right?
What you need to do is just relax and think about what you want to try out.
Something new,
Something different,
Something you've never tried before.
For example,
If you've never gone to a pottery class,
Then go to a pottery class,
Yeah?
If you've never worked with your hands,
Then go to organic gardening or permaculture class.
Or there's a hundred thousand things to try out.
I mean,
I'm sure you've not done everything on this planet.
So go try something that you've never tried before.
Go try something creative.
And you'll notice because of the activation of those creative neurons in your brain,
Because of the activation of your body,
Because your body's involved in it as well,
Because of the activation of your senses,
Because your senses are going to be involved in it as well,
Because of the activation of your meditative state,
And because everything is just involved in it,
You'll notice that that creative sense is going to be transferred over effortlessly,
Automatically,
Unconsciously into a lot of different aspects of your life.
Another part to this,
The reason I recommended it to my friend,
Is because I noticed also that it triggers important revelations to you,
Revelations to you,
Because your mind is all of a sudden thinking creatively in all the different aspects of your life,
Right?
So you start thinking creatively in the way you want to dress.
You start thinking creatively in the way you want to walk.
And you start thinking creatively in the way you want to interact with individuals.
And all that creativity kind of transfers over into the way you want to live your life.
And because of that,
I've noticed that when I'm in this mode,
That I get all these revelations about how I want to live my life to the best of my ability,
And how I want to move to being that best version of myself,
Which is always my goal.
And so this is something that I've noticed in my life over and over and over again.
I've never actually spoken about it in a conscious manner like this because I just kind of unconsciously have been taking care of it and doing it.
But I'm really grateful that you guys are giving me this opportunity to speak about this.
It's so fascinating to me how creativity in one aspect of your life can just affect every single part of your life without you being even aware of it.
And that's the brilliant part of it,
That you don't have to think about it.
You don't have to consciously make it happen.
You don't have to consciously be like,
All right,
These are all the different things I'm going to do.
These are the list of things.
This is a to-do list.
You just are creative in one part of your life and effortlessly,
Automatically,
You'll notice it moving and transmuting,
Transferring over to the other parts of your beautiful life.
It's so amazingly perfect how it works out.
And I really do recommend that if you guys have a chance to try it,
I know my friend has said that he would try it.
Hopefully he does.
If you guys have a chance to try it,
I do recommend that you guys try it as well.
It's really important because that creative sense that perhaps is missing from your life right now,
That you're like,
Oh,
I don't really know what I need to be creative about.
I don't know how I need to be creative,
What I should be creative about.
But exactly,
Am I even creative?
Things like that.
Just go and try watercolor painting class or go do something creative,
Something that you've never done before,
Something that makes your creative neurons pipe up and jump up and light up.
And that will cause a transformation in the way you look at the world.
And that transformation will bring new ideas into your life.
And all of a sudden you'll be like,
Oh,
This is really interesting.
What I really want to do with my life is I want to sell dance clothing.
I love salsa dancing.
I've been loving it.
I really enjoy it.
And I want to be involved more in it.
And my dream is to sell dance clothing online.
And so from that,
You'll really start getting ideas about what you want to really do with your life in a creative fashion.
But that's the first thing.
You have to go and try something new and really bring that creativity into your life.
And it doesn't have to be a lot.
You can just be doing two hours of a watercolor painting class once a week.
Yeah.
But that kind of sense will really transmute and transform your life in a way that I've seen happen so many times,
Not only in my own life,
But in other people's life as well.
OK.
I hope this makes sense to you guys.
I hope I was able to explain myself to you.

A very timely message, this, and rang so true. It does fit the known neuroscience very well. It's also something I practice myself - when I can make up my mind what to try (INTP here, borderline INTJ). 😁 I think trying and learning new things at one's own comfort level helps us to continue to find enjoyment in our lives as well as personal growth. So vital in this world we live in today! I'm actually downloading this to listen to a few more times. I don't have MS, but I do have other significant medical conditions and receive disability as a result. His situation sounds similar to that of me and many of my clients at one point or another. I hope he is able to utilize your suggestions, and I thank YOU for continuing to be such a good friend to him. Many friends (and family) are often lost in the wake of the hurricane that is chronic medical conditions. Those who genuinely care and stand by us are worth far more than their weight in platinum to us. Your friend is blessed to have you in his life, and I have no doubt he knows it. Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us here on Insight Timer. I see the blazing starlight within you. 🤲🏻❤️🤲🏻
