Hey everyone,

It is 7.
46am in the morning.
I tried to do a live video earlier but for some reason I crashed so I'll restart it now.
In this video I wanted to speak to you about this technique that I was talking to my workshop about yesterday and for some reason I'm always surprised when I talk about something and everyone in the group is like,
Oh I've never heard of that before and I'm thinking to myself,
Oh I thought that was something that everyone on this planet knew.
So I really really need to stop zooming that people know everything that I know and so I'm sharing as much as possible of all the knowledge that I've gained by reading the thousands of books that I've read over the years.
So today I want to speak to you guys about this technique that I use in order to banish negative thoughts and this technique is called the elastic ban technique.
What happens with negative thoughts,
And I've said this before I think in other videos,
Negative thoughts are like weeds and if you let them grow they're going to bring their families with them and they're going to completely invade your mind.
You cannot let negative thoughts grow bigger than they already are because negative thoughts are extremely powerful.
It takes about 15 to 20 positive thoughts to negate the effect of one negative thought.
Negative thoughts are extremely extremely powerful and important.
So as soon as you have a negative thought it is extremely important to get rid of it,
To cut it down right freaking away.
If you don't do that what's going to happen is that one negative tiny little baby thought about having horrible toes or whatever it might be might grow into this magnanimous humongous beast of a negative thought because it's going to bring all those families with it,
It's going to bring all the cousins and eventually you're going to be in the spiral of negative thoughts thinking that you hate your life,
You suck,
You shouldn't be allowed to live,
Blah blah blah.
So you know what I'm saying?
So negative thoughts,
Even though they're small at first,
They're thinking,
Oh it's just a small negative thought,
It doesn't really matter.
No,
You've got to cut it out right away and replace it with a positive thought because a negative thought not only is it more potent and powerful than a positive thought,
But it can really grow like weeds and really invade our brain so that not only are we completely enamored by it,
But we're not thinking about anything positive anymore.
So in that regard,
The technique that I've learned,
I don't know where I learned from really,
But I've been using it for a long period of time,
Maybe 5-10 years,
And it's called the elastic band technique.
So the main tenet of it is that first of all a negative thought,
Like I said,
First it's really really tiny,
So it doesn't really result in anything negative in our lives.
We don't manifest the negativity right away.
So a negative thought actually takes a little bit of time to manifest in our lives.
Same thing as positivity,
And same thing as any thought.
They've given the example that if you have a thought of an elephant in your head,
You're not going to directly get an elephant in your living room right away because thoughts take a little bit of time to manifest,
And that's actually a good thing because if you have a thought of an elephant and there's an elephant in your room right away,
Then that would be a little bit scary and a little bit difficult to deal with.
So thoughts take a little bit of time to manifest and that's actually a good thing.
They have a delay period built into them.
But negative thoughts,
Even though they take a little bit of time to manifest,
Because of that time that it takes to manifest,
We think that's not really a big deal if you have negative thoughts.
But the problem is that it is going to manifest in your life if you have negative thoughts and eventually it's going to take over your life because you're going to have all this negativity manifested in your life.
Positive thoughts being manifested,
Obviously it's great,
But if negative thoughts manifest then that's actually a bad thing and you want to avoid that.
But because of that delay period,
You're not actually aware of the fact that it's going to come.
It takes a little bit of time for the negativity to manifest.
And so in order to ensure that we're moving towards pleasure and away from pain,
Which are the only two things human beings really care about,
Moving towards pleasure and moving away from pain,
We have this elastic band that we put on our hand and every single time we have a negative thought,
We pull the elastic band and hit it against our hand.
So basically you want to get an elastic band that's really really painful against your skin and every single time you have a negative thought,
You pull the elastic band,
Boom,
You have a little bit of pain and instantaneously your subconscious creates that connection between having a negative thought and pain.
And as we always want to move away from pain and towards pleasure,
Away from pain and towards pleasure,
We're going to eventually stop having a negative thought or instantaneously replacing it with a positive thought because we don't want to experience that pain of the elastic band.
And that's a really simple connection that we're making in our heads.
But it's like a Pavlovian dog,
You know,
He connected food with salivation,
So as soon as the bell with salivation,
Sorry,
So then as soon as he rang the bell,
The dog started salivating.
And that's the same kind of minor little connection that we want to make in our minds,
That as soon as we have a negative thought,
It leads to pain with the elastic band and that's why we do not want to feel that pain.
We do not want to use,
We don't want to feel,
We don't want to have any negative thoughts in our head at all.
And so I hope that this makes sense to you.
So this is the technique that I've been using for years.
Now I don't need to use it anymore because I've really,
Really made the association in my head with negative thoughts being resulting in pain.
So it's very easy for me to instantaneously switch my brain from having a negative thought to a positive thought.
And it happens very rarely.
If it does happen,
Then I'm good enough at it now that I don't actually need to have an elastic band.
But in the beginning I did.
In the beginning I had an elastic band on my hand and every single time I had negative thought I'd pull it against my hand and I had like welts of my hand.
It was red for a few months because I'd be doing this so often.
It's also a great thing because it reminds you of how often we have negative thoughts and that we are unaware of it.
Because as soon as you have the elastic band and you pull it against your hand,
You'll be reminded of how many times a day you're having negative thoughts.
Not only about yourself,
Which is so common,
But about other people.
And that's something that I want to avoid as well.
I don't really want to judge other people or have negative thoughts about them because I really think it's based on their appearance or based on what they're doing in the moment and that's really,
Truly not right.
Because that's a judgement really.
It's not the reality.
It's not the truth.
And so the negative thoughts not only about yourself but about everything else in the world.
Right now I'm sure we're having a lot of negative thoughts about politics,
About Donald Trump.
And so again we want to avoid that as well because there's no point dwelling on the negative.
Because it's not when you're dwelling on the negative you're not actually taking any action.
You're not doing anything about it.
The women's march that we had yesterday,
That's action.
They're actually doing something about it and that's awesome.
But just having negative thoughts in your head and talking about it with your friends and complaining and bitching about it,
It's useless.
It's an absolute waste of your time.
People are like,
Oh I'm being informed.
No you're not being informed.
You're just being negative.
You're not doing anything about it.
You're not sharing your opinion with the world.
You're not creating a forum for people to share.
You're not analyzing it and giving people feedback.
You're not doing anything useful or positive.
You're just sharing your negative thoughts and bringing other people down.
That is not a good use of our mental space.
We have powerful,
Powerful brains.
And if you really wanted to do something about Donald Trump you would go out on a rally.
You would go out and do something really positive about it.
Stop bitching.
Stop complaining.
Stop wasting other people's time and wasting other people's mental space with negativity and actually do something about it.
Take some action.
Go on a march.
Create an activist group.
Do something about it.
Stop bitching.
Stop complaining.
So negative thoughts not only about yourself,
Which is really,
Really important because we talk.
Sometimes the way I speak to myself is so horrendous that I would never ever speak to someone else about that,
In that manner.
And so I really,
Really,
In the beginning when I started I really wanted to be kind to myself.
I wanted to be gentle towards myself.
I wanted to speak to myself in a way that was the way I would want to speak to everyone else around me.
Some of the things I said to myself were things I would never say to a friend of mine.
I would never bring them down in that manner.
And that's the reason I started doing this elastic band technique is because I wanted to stop being negative towards myself.
I wanted to stop saying negative things not only about myself but about my life,
About maybe my parents,
About my family,
About my relationships,
About my friends,
About the universe,
About the world.
And now I have this headspace where people come up to me and ask me how I can be smiling all the time,
How I'm so happy all the time,
How can I stay so positive all the time.
And I tell them it is not something that I'm doing just because of being alive.
Like I love,
I'm so grateful to be alive and all that stuff.
But this positivity is a technique.
It's a practice.
And I am not positive just because I'm just going to be a Pollyanna and just be positive all the time.
I'm actually putting that into action.
I'm using my positivity to build other people up.
I'm using my positivity to build a club where people can come in and feel good about their lives or change their lives so that they can feel good about it.
I'm trying to create positivity in life in my workshops where people can come and when they leave,
They say that they feel high.
That's the kind of work that I want to do.
That's the kind of work that I'm trying to do.
That's the kind of work that I'm aspiring to do.
So it's not,
Again,
It's not just about talking.
It's not about just blabbering on about positivity,
But I was actually putting it into action and bringing that positivity into other people's lives.
So when people meet me,
They're instantaneously touched by the light that's within me.
And I'm not just saying that because I think it.
It's because I've had a lot of people say that to me.
A lot of people come up to me and say,
You know,
Just being around you makes me feel good about life.
Just being around you makes me feel the light in you.
I can see the light inside of you.
You're a healer.
And so these are things that make me feel really,
Really good and I want to keep on going with it.
