Liminal

A doorway can be an opening. You can welcome what is on the other side. A doorway can be a liminal space. A threshold between this and that. A door can be a wilderness experience. You might be asked to move away from all that you have known. A door can be a transition. A stage of life. You choose to step through. You are forced through. The door behind you remains open. Sometimes, the door is barred fast. You cannot open it ever again. What you have known is gone forever.

Hi Betsy – how is it that you speak directly to me in almost every reflection? In the context of what’s going on in my life, your words today had a particular resonance. Losing a spouse has forced me to step through that door, and what’s behind me has now been barred shut. So as I stumble into the unknown, I do so with all the self compassion I can muster. I love your encouragement that I’m a bad ass. It will help me stumble through with greater confidence as I get my sea legs on this this side of the door. Namaste.

I came looking for this talk tonight because I have encountered the word liminal several times in the past few months, And I knew you had to talk on it. Which now is the best definition of limitations ever!!
'A door asks you to live somewhere in between'. This resonated in a powerful way for me. I use doors, or rather doorknobs, as a mindfulness que through my day everyday, every door. And it is threshold on multiple levels.
So much to consider here. Love it.
