I have a friend who says, “Huzzah!” whenever someone does something well. So I am here today, saying, “Huzzah!” to you. I mean it. If I had a sticker—like one of those scratch and sniff stickers from so long ago—I’d give it to you. Because you made a choice to let go of distractions. To settle. And go in. Inhale. Exhale. Welcome to a hit of hope. In a world of noise and stimulation, in a world of din and clamor, you have chosen to quiet.

I have a friend who says,

Huzzah,

Whenever someone does something well.

So I am here today saying,

Huzzah,

To you.

I mean it.

If I had a sticker,

I'd give it to you.

Because you have made a choice to let go of distractions,

To settle and go in.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Welcome to a hit of hope.

In a world of noise and stimulation,

A world of din and clamor,

You have chosen right now to quiet,

Surrender.

And that is not for the faint-hearted.

Because when you settle and quiet,

You never know what might come up.

Inhale.

Exhale.

A memory might surface.

A wrong,

A loss,

An illness,

A struggle past or present.

Inhale.

Exhale.

When you let go of distractions and surrender,

Out of nowhere,

A storm of emotional weather can sweep across your heart space.

The fear of what might come next,

The rage at what so-and-so said or did.

Shame.

Guilt.

A crushing sense of unworthiness that affects and infects everything you do.

When those emotions hit,

You might want to curl into a ball.

And that's okay.

Inhale.

Exhale.

It's easier to distract,

Isn't it?

Because who wants to feel this pain?

Who wants to remember all of the ways we've been hurt or the ways we've fallen short or failed?

Inhale.

Exhale.

It takes courage to center,

To settle,

To surrender to our full humanity,

To see all of the selves we carry around inside.

And not just that good self you project into the world,

But to face the real selves,

The selves who are a stew of emotions,

Strengths,

Weaknesses,

Curiosities,

And kindnesses.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Today you made the hard choice to sit,

Surrender,

And face what you carry around every day.

And for that I say,

Huzzah.

Namaste.

Huzzah indeed. It can be very challenging to let myself take credit for the little victories; to allow that any moving forward is not a betrayal. But just this day, I did so, and I gave myself that credit, and friends and family couldn't be happier for nor prouder of me. Yay, Me. 'Bout damn time. As always, your timing is divine. When I need to hear something, when I have to have just that one reminder or realization... ...there you are. Thank you again. HUZZAH!
